Today, I worked from home, after calling and checking in with my supervisor.
Around noon, my cousin who is visiting from Australia called to ask if I'll be home tomorrow evening and, if so, she'd like to visit me and bring dinner! She said she'll make a chicken
curry and a vegetable, if I could cook the rice. Afterwards, she will go over to another cousin's house to stay the night with her. I do feel guilty about her having to cook me
dinner, but she assured me she wanted to. I will make a fruit salad for dessert and serve it with the ice cream I bought yesterday.
Later, in the afternoon,
I went to bring in the trash cans and collect the mail. I heard
someone call my name and it was my neighbor, who was waiting for a ride to go
to her doctor's appointment. We spoke for a bit and then, I took the
trash cans in and checked my mail.
My
ultrasound referral had arrived in the mail! So, I called the hospital
to schedule the two procedures - abdominal ultrasound and breast
ultrasound. The person I spoke to said they needed an additional report
from the doctor's office. So, I called the cancer clinic and spoke to
the office staff; the girl I spoke with said she will fax the papers
over immediately and to give it about 15 minutes and then, call the
hospital again. I waited maybe 30 minutes and called. The good news
is, I was able to schedule the ultrasound for the abdomen for this
coming Thursday, June 1. At 9:00 a.m., because I have to be fasting
(not even water).
The
bad news is, apparently there is some mistake about the breast
ultrasound request. The lady scheduling the appointment asked me if I
have done a diagnostic mammogram first, as they normally don't do an
ultrasound without a diagnostic mammogram. I said no, I can't do a
mammogram due to the swelling and inflammation. Apparently, the
doctor's office hadn't specified I was not to have a diagnostic
mammogram, first. The lady called the doctor's office and apparently,
they have to re-do the referral. Aarrgh!
So, more waiting. I would have
preferred it was the other way round and they did the breast ultrasound
first and waited on the abdomen one. I wasn't so worried about the cyst
in the stomach; it was the breast lump I was worried about! I didn't
think to call the doctor's office right away. I shall do that tomorrow
morning. Just to make sure they know what is happening.
Once I was done with my office work for the day, I went to the library to return my library books.
After
I came home, I tidied and cleaned the house. I cleared the horizontal
surfaces, dusted, and vacuumed. That took some time, but I was able to get it done and the house
looks presentable. Even picked some fresh roses for the altar and the living room
and fresh lemons to fill the fruit bowl on the dining table.
Bowl of Fresh Lemons |
Ideally, this is how the dining table should always be - with nothing on it other than a table cloth and a bowl of fresh fruit. Reality, however, is it is usually cluttered with books and papers, my latest sewing project, etc., etc., etc. I am going to make it a mini-goal for June: Keep the dining table cleared!
Tomorrow, I
need to put away the washed dishes and tidy the kitchen counters, a
bit. And make the fruit salad.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Receiving my referral, even if half of it needs to be redone
- Being able to schedule one of the ultrasounds
- Being able to work from home
- Cousin calling and saying she'll bring dinner, tomorrow
- Being able to tidy and clean the house
Wednesday's To Do List:
- Go to the office
- Call the doctor's office
- Call regarding the property tax bill
- Tidy the kitchen/clear the counters
- Make a fruit salad
- Enjoy dinner with cousin
- Cook sausage meat I put to thaw
How was your Tuesday? What is usually on your dining table in between meals? Do you keep it cleared? Or, are yours more like mine with stuff being dumped on it all the time? Anyone else wants to join me in June with a mini goal of keeping the dining table clear?
I'm sorry that there has been a glitch in the paper work and you have longer to wait for your breast ultrasound. Maybe the doctor's office can expedite it somehow.
ReplyDeleteWe have one table and it is usually cluttered because it is near the door where we come into the house and is a convenient drop spot. Also, it is a work table that we use for a lot of different things, so I don't think we can realistically keep it clean. But I can make it a goal to clean it off on a more regular basis.
Thank you, Live and Learn. I am hopeful that the new referral will arrive in another week or so...just in time for me to report to jury duty! Oh, well, I'm sure it will all work out.
DeleteI have a table in the family room which is where we come in from the garage. That is the first dumping ground for things that come in to the house - my tote bag that I take to the office, bags of groceries, etc. It is also where a lot of homeless items end up! The dining table tends to be where things end up that come in from the front door such as mail, and my office papers from when I work at home, and "overflow" from the other table!
Well this day your dining room table looks so nice! Very frustrating with your calls to the doctor's and the scheduling problems. Someone in the medical field needs to step up and do more work! That is a sacrifice for you just to schedule appointments! But I hope you have a great time with your cousin. She wants to "gift" you with her meal which is so nice. It is handy your did get the desert at first without even knowing. Andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. I feel serene when I see the dining table cleared with only a bowl of fruit on it (can't keep a vase of flowers because Dancer will want to eat the flowers!). You'd think that that would be an incentive to keep it clear, wouldn't you?
DeleteI think the referral mix-up is just another lesson in patience for me. There have been many such lessons, unfortunately, but I mustn't complain. At least, I have health care. It's just that my particular case is a slight exception to how they normally do things and we all get flustered when that happens.
Yes, cousin wanted to cook for me. Maybe when she next visits, I'll be well enough to cook for her. It was a good thing I bought the ice cream, isn't it? Fruit salad by itself is good, but it is better with a scoop of ice cream!
Sorry about the mess up and the wait! My Mum is waiting for her scan. She's had her blood taken, has her oncologist appointment scheduled but needs the scan done in between!
ReplyDeleteMy table usually has something on it that shouldn't be there. Like the person above mine is sort of by the back door and people place all kinds of things on it (I'm guilty of it too). The only things that should be on it are two stone tile thingys and a candle.
Sharon, I hope your Mum gets a scan scheduled without any problems. The waiting seems to be the hardest part of all, isn't it?
DeleteSounds like I am not alone with a messy table! I really must implement that 10 minutes house sweep last thing at night!
Good news that you have the one referral sorted.
ReplyDeleteI think your visiting cousin bringing dinner over is her way of caring because you are after all still recovering. Your idea of a fruit salad with ice cream is just perfect. Have a lovely visit.
I do keep my dining room table cleared however my hubby likes to put stuff down on the breakfast counter! I tend to put things away immediately.
Sandy
Sandy, yes, at least one referral came through and that one ultrasound can be done. Got to look at the positives, right?
DeleteYes, that's what cousin said, that she wanted to do it for me. And I am learning that my illness is providing an opportunity for others to do for me. Besides, cousin likes to cook! I will cook the rice and prepare the dessert and that will be enough.
Ah, you are someone to emulate when it comes to keeping the table clear! It seems I can be very good and keep it clear for a few days, then, I will put down some mail to deal with later, and that seems to be an invitation for other things to join the pieces of mail and soon they are having a party! :D
Hope you are having a lovely day. It is gloomy, foggy, and cold here!
Love your lemons! We keep our dining table cleared except for a centerpiece, placemats, and I put a cloth napkin in napkin ring at each place. It's easy to keep it cleared because it's not the first horizontal surface we see when we enter our home. That would be our kitchen island and I have to be very diligent about not dropping things there. It's a constant battle! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carolyn. I can't set placemats and keep because a certain kitty cat will think they are mini quilts set out for him! Oh yes, the Battle of Clear Horizontal Surfaces! LOL.
DeleteSorry about the mix up and further waiting, at least one is being done. Waiting is so hard isn't it.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will enjoy your cousin's visit and her meal. She wants to spoil you! Ice cream is a good anytime!
My dining table gets cluttered during the day and I try and clear it every night, but sometimes it the next day, It is meant to have a bowl of fruit and a doily.
's visit and the meal
Sharon, yes, at least one test is being done. We'll take it one step at a time. Visit with cousin was very nice; she preferred to have the fruit salad by itself, without ice cream, but I am glad I had the ice cream to offer, as well. :)
