Windy Thursday

Another fairly productive day at the office, today.  I gave the thank you card I made, along with a box of Ceylon tea, to my supervisor for all the plants she gave me.  She kept saying I didn't have to, but I told her I wanted to.

During my lunch break, I went to the weekly farmers' market and my favorite bakery stall was there, this week, and I was able to buy a loaf of the crusty French bread that I like.  I also tried the Hawaiian barbecued chicken stall for the first time.  It was good, but not something I'd want to buy all the time.  I wasn't planning to buy lunch, but the peanut butter sandwich I had brought for lunch didn't really appeal (I had one yesterday, too, and found it OK; two days in a row was too much, I guess.)

It's been another very windy day, which might explain the sinus pressure headache I had.   I didn't feel like stopping at the garden center to buy the tomato cages, after work.  I just came home directly,  took a Tylenol, and rested for a bit.  But I couldn't fall asleep, so eventually, I got up and put in a load of laundry to wash.  That always makes me feel I was productive!  It is hanging up, now, to dry inside the house.  One of my friends called to ask how daughter and I were and we chatted for a bit.

Daughter's office closed early, today, and she and her colleagues were asked to work from home or a different, off-site location, in order to avoid the protests that were planned in Berkeley, later in the evening, and any potential violence that might have resulted.  I am glad she was able to go home a couple of hours early.

I have taken tomorrow and Monday as vacation days, so I will have a nice long weekend ahead of me!  I am hoping I will be able to both rest and get a few things done, as well!  It's going to be another hot weekend with temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s, according to the weather forecast!  So, I am planning to be productive in the mornings when it is cooler and relax in the afternoons when it will be hot.

Today, I was grateful for:
- Daughter was able to go home early and avoid the protests taking place this evening.
- Being able to treat myself to lunch out
- Being able to buy my favorite bread which I haven't had in 16 months! (And it tasting just as good as I remembered it being!)
- Being complimented on my dress and appearance.
- Being able to take a couple of days of vacation

Friday's To Do List:
- Go to the garden center for tomato cages
- Finish assembling the trellis
- Put away laundry
- Do another load of laundry
- Other items from the carried forward list!

How was your Thursday?  What have you planned for Friday?

    1. Thank you, Anne. Saying thank you is important to me. Besides, she gave me something like 5 huge shopping bags full of succulents from her garden! I needed to thank her for her generosity.

  2. You should start taking pictures of your outfits again, so we can see what you're creating from both yours and your daughter's closet.

    1. Ha, ha, maybe I will! I did take a picture of me wearing daughter's blouse; I sent it to her so she could see. She told me I could borrow anything I liked. So, if you see a 61 year old woman walking around in the clothes of a 24 year old, you'll know it's me!

  3. What a blessing that your daughter's employer is concerned for the safety of its staff, and that your daughter remained safe. Enjoy your mini-vacation! You should treat yourself ... a drive to the coast would be a nice way to spend a vacation day ... picnic lunch and relaxing or reading a good book on the beach. Can you tell I miss California beaches after our trip last year? Haha! And I hope the tomato cages are just what you're needing to deter the feral kitties. Have a great day!

    1. Carolyn, yes, a blessing that they were concerned about the safety of the employees, especially as they are affiliated with the university and the protests were against the university.

A trip to the beach does sound rather nice! I actually haven't been to the beach in years! I think the last time I went was when my daughter was in high school. She and her friends went to the beach and I went along to chaperone them - back in the days when I wouldn't let my daughter go about on her own, even with friends, unless there was a parent with them! LOL.

  4. Oh how nice that you are able to walk to "the weekly farmers' market" on your lunch break. I love crusty French bread with tomatoes and cheese.

I always think a good plan is chores/jobs in the morning, rest do what you want in the afternoon. Of course I am naturally a morning person.

    Hugs.

    1. This particular farmers' market is held near my office building, every Thursday from early spring until around October. Some stalls change from week to week, but others are there every week. The fresh fruits and vegetables are, for the most part, more expensive than what I buy at the ethnic grocery stores, but, not that much more than organic produce at the regular grocery stores. I am thinking I should buy at least one fresh produce item a week from the farmers' market and work it into the budget.

  5. That was a very kind gesture towards your supervisor and a relief that your daughter was able to go home early. I hope you enjoy your long weekend and be sure to take time to relax. X

    1. Thanks, Jules. My supervisor has been so kind and accommodating, in addition to being so generous with her plants, that I felt a thank you card wasn't quite enough. Hope all is well with you, Jules, and that you have a lovely weekend. Take care.
