Much Better Monday

I am feeling much better, today; even have my voice back!  Still a bit hoarse, but at least I can talk!

It has been a very cloudy and overcast day, but it didn't rain.  I spent a quiet morning, having a cup of tea and checking on my cousin who had also come down with a cold and cough.  Apparently, she, too, has lost her voice!  I spoke with her mother, instead.  Aunt recounted how when my cousin and I were in pre-school together (this particular cousin is less than 4 months younger than I), she received a call saying my cousin was sick and when she went to pick up my cousin, she found me, too, seated next to my cousin in the nurse's office, because I had insisted on staying with my sick cousin.  I guess we cared about each other even when we were four years old.  :)

My doctor's appointment was at 1:30 p.m.  I left the house shortly before 12:30 p.m.  Traffic was quite light and I got there in good time.  I had taken my book with me to read if there was a long wait like last time, but they called me in before my appointment time and I was actually out of there by 1:30 p.m.!  The doctor's visit went well.  He examined me, asked me what I thought, agreed with me that the inflammation looked better, and stated that I didn't need any additional antibiotics.  I am to return for a follow-up visit in 6 weeks; he wants me to wait until after that to schedule the mammogram.

On the way home, I wanted to buy something for lunch (breakfast had been a banana), but I couldn't decide what I wanted; nothing sounded all that good.  I lost my appetite, last week, when I got sick and haven't quite recovered it, yet.  After I came home, however, I had some of the teriyaki beef bowl I had frozen, earlier, for my lunch.  Later, I aired out the house, took out the trash cans, and just relaxed.

Later, I felt like having a doughnut with my tea!  I thought long and hard about going to the nearby doughnut shop (there are actually two of them, each just three blocks away), but then, I knew it wouldn't taste good, so I didn't go to get one.  Just had a cup of tea, instead.  I watched news on TV in the evening and my neighbor called to check on me.  My aunt called again, too, and later, I texted with my cousin and video chatted with my daughter.  Dinner was a chicken sandwich followed by a fresh orange I had picked from my tree.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Feeling better and having my voice back
- A safe drive to the clinic and back
- The doctor's visit went well
- Aunt sharing anecdotes about my childhood
- Caring family and friends

Today, I spent $15 co-pay at the clinic and $2 for parking.

Tomorrow, I will see my primary care doctor.  The clinic called and confirmed the appointment, today.   If I feel up to it, I will also do a little grocery shopping, too.

How was your day?  Hope it was a good day.

    1. Thank you, Jules. :) I'm so glad when my aunt tells me anecdotes about my childhood; she's about the only one left of her generation from my father's side of the family and I really like to hear her stories.

Hope you are keeping well and everything is fine with you and your family.

  2. Glad you're feeling better. That was a very sweet story about you and your cousin in preschool. It's nice that the school let you stay together. I'm not sure all of them would have let you do that.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Feeling almost back to normal, today. :) Yes, I like hearing stories about my childhood. Maybe my cousin wasn't that sick that the school let me stay with her? Or maybe it was easier for them to do that than to deal with a thwarted me? I know I wasn't above throwing a tantrum if I didn't have my way! :D

  3. So glad the doctor's visit went well and glad you're feeling better! My husband is coming down with it. He was sniffing and coughing yesterday - laughingly blamed it on our cold walk on the beach on Sunday.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I hope your husband's cold is a light one and he recovers soon. And I hope you don't catch it! Lots of vitamin C, warm drinks, hand washing, etc. Take care!

  4. SO glad you are feeling better and that your doctor's appointment brought good news.

My sisters and I grew up very close to my Mom's family and we are very close to our cousins. It's nice to have a tight-knit extended family!

    1. Thank you, Laura. Yes, it is nice to have a tight-knit extended family, isn't it? My cousins are spread out - some in Australia, some back in Sri Lanka, a few out here. Those of us who are here try to get together every so often and are there for each other as much as we can.

  5. Glad to read your doctor's appointment went well and you are feeling better. Had to laugh about the doughnut, I'm the same way. Something always sounds like a great idea, but the longer I put it off, the less appealing it sounds. Guess it saves a lot of money that way! Hoping tomorrow will be sunny for you!

    1. Thank you, Jane. The chemo treatment affected my taste buds! Sweet things like chocolate, cakes, cookies, etc., taste bitter, or, at least, they don't taste like they used to taste. I still crave that remembered taste, but I am always disappointed when I try them. So I just talk myself out of having them. It's healthier for me!

  6. So pleased that you feel 100% better. It sounds like you have turned the corner. How lovely that you have extended family living quite close to you.

I don't know if this would work for you but I keep graham crackers in my pantry and they are quite nice with a hot cup of tea. My splurge is the rice pudding that is sold in the refrigerator section of the store. I wish they sold it in cans (tins) like they do in the U.K.

It is mild here and storms are forecast for this evening. It is Shrove Tuesday so growing up that meant pancakes with a squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of sugar. The only time my mum made them.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I do have graham crackers, as well as several different types of cookies and at least two types of cake! It's just that, after chemo, my taste buds have changed and cakes, cookies, chocolates, doughnuts, etc. just don't taste the same. Often, they taste bitter to me, not sweet. Same with puddings. What I crave is that old, remembered taste!

Oh, that's how we used to have pancakes, too! With sugar and lemon juice! I still make them at times, although not lately.

I hope you are having a lovely day and your knee is not bothering you too much. Take care.

  9. It must be really lovely to have a large, close family. I have a lot of cousins, but didn't grow up with any of them and don't have much in common with some.

    1. I have (or had, since some of them have died) 19 first cousins and numerous 2nd cousins. Some are still in Sri Lanka and others are in Australia. We used to get together fairly frequently, but, of course, not this past year.
