| My Third Weather Vane Sighting! |
On Saturday, my daughter and I were on our way to a lunch at a friend's house and I spotted another weather vane on top of a commercial building. I was stopped at a traffic light and my daughter was able to take a couple of pictures of the weather vane for me. The weather vane features a flag with PL written on it (for Penny Lane, I believe) and a bird with a wide open beak. The building is rather interesting, too, and has been described as, "fairy tale Tudor".

The lunch at my friend's house was lovely. In the invite, she had stated that the theme will be Sri Lankan and to come in Sri Lankan attire (although, she had also stated, "No pressure", in parentheses). Well, I don't need a second invitation to wear a sari, so, I happily wore one of my saris to the gathering. I took a jar of my homemade peach chutney to the gathering and it went well with the Sri Lankan rice and curries my friend had prepared. It was a small gathering of eight people, including two of my cousins, another good friend and her husband; I felt comfortable enough to be without my mask.
After lunch, we were all given containers to take leftovers home with us and I received a bag of oranges that were freshly picked from my friend's tree.
I might have caught a glimpse of yet another weather vane on the drive back, but, I was in a construction zone with the road narrowed to just one lane and I wasn't able to find a convenient spot in which to park. Besides, I would have been rather conspicuous traipsing around in my bright purple sari, so, I will try to drive past that building another time and be prepared to take a picture, then.
In the meantime, I am thrilled to have found the weather wane pictured above!
Do you see many weather vanes where you are? Are they fairly common in your area?

They are quite common round here, every church has one, the older school buildings usually have them. It can get quite windy here so many people put them on their houses. I even have one in my garden!
ReplyDeleteI think they are more common in the UK. None of the churches I've driven by seem to have a weather vane. They have spires topped with crosses, but, no weather vanes. How lovely to have your own weather vane in your garden!
DeleteWhat an interesting weather vane and building. Was that someone's house or a business?
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting building, isn''t it? It is a business; there is a Jamaican restaurant located there (I saw a sign advertising jerk chicken).
DeleteThat is a lovely weather vane! I understand your feelings about going around in your gorgeous sari. I would feel the same about going to the supermarket all dressed up after a special event.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely weather vane, isn't it? I didn't want to draw any attention to myself taking pictures of buildings, dressed as I was, and be confronted by anyone asking what was I doing, especially these days. :)
DeleteNow I am going to have to be on the lookout for weather vanes!
ReplyDeleteHope you find plenty, Anne. :)
DeleteWe don't see many weather vanes, but they are really nice to see, so ornamental. I'm glad the lunch at your friend's house was nice especially as you got to wear your sari!
ReplyDeleteThey do add something extra to a building, don't they? Thank you, Sharon; I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my friend and the others she had invited and I loved the occasion to wear a sari. :)
DeleteCongratulations! I have already emailed you about it, but for the record, I like the quirky architecture and the little bird. I wonder if he was a later addition. Keep hunting!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella, Yes, I received your email, but, I haven't replied to it, yet. I tried to find out more about the weather vane, but, there's not much information about it. I shall definitely keep hunting! :D
DeleteIt sounds like a really nice gathering at your friend's house. I imagine the food was very good.
ReplyDeleteAnd another weather vane for you. :)
I can't say I pay attention so I'm not sure if we have a lot of weathervanes.
My friend has a really cute one on top of her house. It is a whale.
She still says it's the reason she bought the house.
I will have to start paying attention and start noticing them.
It was a very nice gathering at my friend's house, Debra. There was quite a good discussion about religion (we were Buddhists and Catholics) and we touched a bit on politics, as well (we represented both major political parties), and all the usual comparisons of our age-related aches and pains! LOL.
DeleteYour friend's weather vane sounds lovely! I think you might be able to find more vanes in your area. Might be something fun to do while out and about (but, do pay attention to the road if you are driving!)
