I ordered and picked up groceries on Sunday, February 15.
I didn't realize when I submitted the order that I had, accidentally, selected a different store than the one I usuallly go to when I pick up groceries! Even though the store address showed up on the notification that the order was ready for pick up, I didn't even notice it! As far as I was concerned, I had not checked a different store! I happily drove to my regular store and sent the text with my pick up parking spot number and waited.
After a few minutes, my phone rang and it was a store clerk saying he couldn't see me at the parking spot I had stated I was parked in and at which store was I waiting? It was only then that I realized that I was at my neighborhood store and my groceries were waiting for me at a different store a few miles away! That's the first time that has happened! The store clerk asked if I wanted the order cancelled, but, I said no, I will drive over if he could hold the items for me; it would take me about 20 minutes to get there. He said he will hold the order for me. I was able to get to the other store in just about 20 minutes and I called the store to let the person who called me know that I was at the store. A very pleasant store clerk brought my order to the car and loaded the bags.
I bought chicken, fruit, potatoes, frozen pot pies, peanut butter, and hot Cheetos. The potatoes, bananas, and mandarin oranges were not on sale and the chicken drumsticks were the store's $5 value pack (but, a good deal at 4.5lbs. for $5; they don't have chicken thighs for that same price, though). But, everything else was on sale.
Here's the receipt:
Order Summary
Item Details
16 Items
Other Fees
$0.20
Total spent = $49.99
My February grocery budget is $250 plus $57.42 carried over from January = $307.42
Total spent to date = $99.37 + $0.49 + $42.29 + $49.99 = $192.14
Balance left in the budget = $307.42 - $192.14 = $115.28
I am grateful for:
- Being able to order groceries online, even if I select the wrong store for pick up!
- The availability of groceries and sales
- Helpful store clerks who contacted me and held my grocery order until I got myself to the correct store!
- A safe drive to the stores and back
- Greens from the garden

| Kale, Mizuna, Arugula and Radish |
Daughter picked a bunch of greens and the last of the radishes from her raised beds and washed and processed everything. She used some of the kale leaves for a soup she made. The rest will be made into salads.

Oh dear, what an experience! It's lucky that the store wasn't miles away! An easy mistake to make I guess. I tend to have my groceries delivered but they often come from a different store to the usual one that delivers. I have no idea why.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to eke out the food this month and made a big batch of minestrone soup in the slow cooker yesterday. It was supposed to feed 4 people but is more like 6/8 portions. I've frozen half of it for later. I also put the breadmaker on for some crusty bread to go with it. As we had half price electricity for 5 hours yesterday I wanted to malke the most of it!
Fresh green are so tasty aren't they :)

It was certainly an experience! I will, from now on, double and triple check the store where I will be picking up the items from now on! LOL. I'm tempted to have the groceries delivered, but, I don't want to have to pay for it (it is free if you pay for a monthly membership, which I don't want to do!) Pick up from the store is free with a minimum purchase of $35 (otherwise, there is a $6.95 pick up fee to pay)
DeleteSoup is a good way to stretch the available food, isn't it? Soup and homemade crusty bread is a treat! You made good use of your half price electricity! :)
Fresh greens are very tasty. :)
Hope you have a good week ahead of you, Angie.
I guess the good news is that your groceries were waiting at a store only 20 minutes away and not all the way across town. Even though I select my local store on some sites, every time I log back in, it has another one as "my" store. I could see how it would be easy to end up with a different one.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. Yes, if the store had not been within easy driving distance, I would have gone ahead and told them to cancel the order and reordered the groceries for pick up from the neighborhood store. It would have meant a bit of a delay and probably some self-recrimination, though!
DeleteEver since I once accidentally deleted the notifications, I've been diligent about checking to make sure the notifications button has been checked; I will, from now on, make it a point to check if I have the right store as my pick up location! :D
Your daughter has an amazing harvest.
ReplyDeleteThat's some seriously impressive shopping! You've got the bones of some good meals there. I'm impressed.
Thank you, Lyssa.
DeleteDaughter is very happy with her harvest and there is some talk about freezing some of the kale for smoothies, later in the summer. :)
I will plan this week's meals around some of the groceries I bought, yesterday. :)
How unfortunate to arrive at the wrong store for your pickup! I find that on the internet, the store whose flyer I am investigating may show up as a different store at the top of the page, so this may have happened and caused the mistake. Thank goodness it wasn't a store 100 miles away!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I was rather perplexed as to how I had picked a different store, but, it all ended up well. If the store had been any farther, I would have asked them to cancel the order and either gone home and reordered, making sure that I had the correct store or, gone into the store where I was and shopped in person. :)
DeleteSuch an easy mistake, but so glad it wa...s easy to put right!! I was ordering something over the phone recently from a company I have used for years. "Same address as usual?" Said the guy. Fortunately I said "in Norfolk" He said "I have you down as Dorset" I explained we left there 5 years ago. Grateful that my goods weren't sent hundreds of miles away!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. Yes, thank goodness it was easy to put right! I'm glad you were able to correct the address when you ordered your goods and they were sent to your current address! :)
DeleteI could see me ordering from the wrong store. That is part of the reason I do only in store shopping.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking I should go back to in-store shopping, but, I must admit I've got accustomed to having someone else do the shopping for me! I'll have to make sure I check the address of the store I'm picking up the items from in the future!
DeleteYou are doing well in grocery shopping. Smart way to package up the greens. Jean
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. I am already looking online at next week's grocery ads to see what items are on sale!
DeleteDaughter thought the smaller packages of greens would be better than one big package, as she separated the greens by type, this time. :)
Oh no - what a mix-up! I'm glad you were able to get to the other store to pick up the order.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Yes, it was a bit of a mix up, wasn't it? However, it all ended well. :)
DeleteGoing to the wrong store is something I'd do! I recently went to my usual grocery, only to find everything moved and not where I expected. I even complained to a clerk about it, only to remember as I left that I'd gone to the store across town from my usual!
ReplyDeleteOh, Celie, that is too funny! We'd make a great pair if we ever go grocery shopping together! No telling where we'd end up shopping! :D
