New Sweater |
Today, I wove in the ends of yarn on the new sweater. I tried it on, last night, and it fitted well (the mock cable rib up the center of the front provides some needed elasticity!). Below is a picture which shows the mock cable rib a little better, but the shade of the wool is more purple in this picture (the actual color is better seen in the picture above).
Another Look |
My daughter has spent the day in meetings, emerging from her room just once to have some lunch. She warmed up leftover rice, teriyaki chicken, and steamed vegetables for her lunch. I took the opportunity to practice the piano.
Today, when M came to tend to the garden, we harvested two of the radishes - I had been waiting until he came to see how well the radishes, at least, were growing:

First Harvest! |
We are going to leave the rest in the ground to grow a little bigger. There are about 6 more radish plants left! My daughter will probably eat the radishes as they are, in a salad or something. I washed the leaves well, chopped them up, and sauteed them:

They wilted down to almost nothing, but, there is enough for my daughter and I to have with our dinner.
Speaking of dinner, I am afraid that I haven't made or followed any kind of meal plan, this week! Here's a quick recap of what we've had:
Thursday (12/31): On New Year's Eve, daughter made some Korean food, which we had for several meals and I baked some American style biscuits (not cookies) using refrigerated dough and we had them with our meals.
Friday (1/1/21): On New Year's Day, I made milk rice for breakfast, friend S sent us a tray of special treats on New Year's Day, as well, and neighbor S and family brought baba ganoush and salmon for dinner, which provided us with some leftovers that we enjoyed over a couple of days.
Saturday: we had leftovers for our meals.
Sunday: I boiled mung beans for our brunch, daughter had leftover rice and curries for her dinner and I had a scrambled egg on toast.
Monday: We had leftover mung beans for brunch, parathas and chicken curry for tea, and daughter cooked teriyaki chicken, steamed broccoli and snap peas, and rice for dinner.
Tuesday: I made waffles for brunch, and we had leftovers from Monday night's teriyaki chicken and vegetables for dinner.
Wednesday: I had leftover waffles for brunch, I think my daughter had a frozen burrito; I had a cup of noodles soup for dinner and daughter had leftovers from previous meals.
Thursday: Daughter had the last of the leftover fish cutlets for breakfast and I had some toast and cheese. Later, I cooked rice, smoked sausage, and warmed up some previously cooked and frozen sauteed green beans for lunch and we had the leftovers for dinner.
Which brings us to today! Daughter had leftovers for her lunch. I had a slice of toast with leftover seeni sambol. Later, I made some turkey meat balls and made a curry with them, sauteed some shredded cabbage, made a dhal (lentils) curry, the sauteed radish leaves, and cooked a fresh pot of rice. We had the rice and curries for dinner. I also cooked four homemade hamburger patties, as well, for an alternative dish. I am hoping that what I cooked today will take us through the weekend and I can make a meal plan to follow next week! I am also planning to order some groceries this weekend and pick it up on Monday.
I watched a couple of programs on TV in the evening and chatted with friend R. I didn't go by to see her, today, but, hope to do so, tomorrow.
Today, I am grateful for:
- My new, wool sweater
- Radishes from the garden
- M watering the front garden for me
- Listening to daughter play the piano
- Working appliances
Today's joyful activity was harvesting the radishes! LOL!
Plans for tomorrow include taking down the Christmas decorations and visiting friend R.
How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend?
You've enjoyed a lovely variety of meals this week. Do you find you're eating more now your daughter is home?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. Yes, especially in the first couple of weeks after she came home, I found myself eating more! It didn't help that it was the holiday season and we had a lot of treats on hand! Then, I weighed myself and realized I had put on 3 lbs. that I had recently lost! So, this week, I made it a point to try and eat how I did when she wasn't home, but, it's hard to say, "No, thank you" to snacks when she offers!
DeleteThe sweater is very pretty. I am always amazed with your knitting talents. We hope to take down our Christmas decorations this weekend, also. I was going to take them down on New Years Day, but my husband wanted to enjoy them a little longer.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June; it's knit with 100% wool as I am looking for warmth more than anything else. Have fun taking down the decorations!
DeleteIt's always fun getting veggies from our gardens. I like the sweater and your meals this week sound delicious!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha; I get very excited when I pick anything from the garden, but, especially vegetables, because I don't have a lot of success growing them!
DeleteI like reading about your day- it sounds lovely! I'm also grateful for working appliances (I had a new washer/dryer delivered on Friday and I'm trying the first loads as I type.) So far- so good!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Thank you, Miss Kim; I'm glad you like reading about my day because that is basically all I write about! LOL. Enjoy your new washer and dryer! I replaced my washer and dryer a couple of years ago and I am very glad I did!
DeleteLove your new jumpwe. I'm always in awe of those who can knit. I have never been able to master it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ratnamurti. Maybe you prefer to crochet? My mother preferred to crochet and so does my daughter; I prefer to knit.
DeleteCongratulations on the jumper! I'd be thrilled if I managed to make an item of clothing (excepting scarves)! The cable bit looks complicated... It's lovely to read about domestic bliss en famille 🙂
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella. I've always maintained that if one can knit a scarf, one can knit a sweater! It's basically four rectangles joined together! I did shape the neckline on this particular sweater because I wanted something a little more rounded, but, I've knitted other sweaters with a straight neckline. Glad you are enjoying the descriptions of my daily life; yes, it is as blissful as we can manage under the circumstances! :)
DeleteThat’s a beautiful sweater, Bless. Just in time for cold weather. 😊
ReplyDeleteHope you and your daughter have a relaxing weekend.
Thank you, Nil; I am wearing it, today! :) Yes, we are having a relaxing weekend with a little tidying up thrown in (I'm trying to take down the Christmas decorations and daughter is helping).
DeleteLovely sweater and I do like the actual colour. I never cooked radish tops and I know there are a lot of root veggie tops that can be eaten, including turnip tops. How much gets wasted by most of us!
ReplyDeleteStill haven't finished putting away the Christmas stuff and the tree is still intact. Just as well it is a live one or the tree might still be there in December!
Sunshine again, another walk, and a red sky at dusk. Looks good for tomorrow.
Thank you, Bushlady. I am not that fond of cooked greens, but, I am determined to make full use of everything that I grow. Both daughter and I agreed that the sauteed radish tops tasted quite nice!
DeleteDaughter and I started on the tree, this evening, and we took most of the decorations off before I got tired. I might have pushed myself to finish the tree if I was by myself, but, daughter insisted that I stopped. She has recognized that I tend to get asthma attacks when I am tired! There is no rush to undecorate!
Sounds like you had a fine day, enjoying the sunshine. :)
What a nice sweater. I love the color and the front detail.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on your garden bounty :)
Thank you, Debra! :D
