Mid-Week, Already?

Cloudy Skies on Monday

More Clouds

Monday was rather cold and cloudy, after some rain in the early morning.  I took these photos in the early evening, when I went to take the trash cans to the end of the driveway.

All Clear on Tuesday

On Tuesday, however, the skies were clear and the day was sunny with a high of 60F.  I brought the trash cans in and walked for 20 minutes.

I've been busy doing some paperwork, this week.

On Monday, I went through several stacks of mail that had piled up, again.  Afterwards. I gathered all the tax related documents I needed (I have been putting the various documents in a file folder as I received them in the mail, but, there were one or two documents that were in the stacks of recent mail that needed to be included in the tax file folder).

On Tuesday, I called the cancer clinic's billing department about a bill I had received.  The bill stated I owed $334.55, which was the difference between what they charged for the office visit and the bone density injection and what insurance had covered.  I had been getting ready to pay it on Monday, but, when I logged into my account, online, I noticed a discrepancy in the amounts I owed.  According to the bill, I owed $334.55 while the online account showed that I had a credit of $115!  So, I called the billing department and spoke with one of their customer service reps.  Apparently, the bill had been submitted to my primary health insurance and they paid a certain portion of the bill in accordance with their agreements with the clinic.  Then, the clinic submitted the unpaid portion of the bill to the secondary insurance, but, they billed me, too, at the same time, without waiting to receive payment from the secondary insurance.  In the meantime, they have received payment from the secondary insurance.  The credit on the account were from previous copay overpayments (at least one of which dated back to 2020!)  The billing clerk I spoke with said to disregard the bill, that I didn't owe anything at all, and that she will put in a request to issue me a check for the credit of $115.  Isn't that nice?  She said it might take about 10 business days for me to receive the check, but, I can wait.  That will be like found money and I will apply it towards offsetting that big gas bill!

Today (Wednesday), was another cool and cloudy day.  M was here in the morning and he brought some roofing nails to do more roof repairs.  He also cleaned my gutters while he was up there.  I told him to give me a bill for the roofing work and he laughed.  I will have to bake him some cookies or something to thank him.

I spent the afternoon sewing and watching videos.  I also double checked my tax file to make sure I have all the documents I need.  I had emailed my tax accountant, earlier in the week, to let her know that I will be dropping off the tax documents by the end of the week, but, she has not replied to my email.  I will call her, tomorrow (Thursday) and drop the documents off at her office.

I had the last of the lasagna for brunch, today, and the last of the macaroni and cheese with chicken curry for dinner.  There's another portion of the chicken curry for Thursday's dinner.

I am grateful for:
- I didn't owe any money to the cancer clinic; rather, I had a credit that they will reimburse!
- Medical insurance
- M helping with the roof repairs
- Working appliances
- More rain for the garden

This week's joyful activities have included watching videos and video chatting with my daughter.

Plans for Thursday include dropping off the tax papers and doing some tidying.

How is your week coming along?  What are your plans for the rest of the week?

  1. What a relief you don't owe any money and will be sent a cheque for the amount you are in credit, it will be handy to put towards your fuel bill. M sounds such a generous man with his time and doing jobs for you that will set your mind at rest knowing your garage roof is fixed. What a difference in your weather and that blue sky is gorgeous. We have snow but not so much here on the coast as other parts of the country.

    1. Yes, it is a relief to know that not only do I not owe money, there will be a refund coming my way! M is a very helpful friend, isn't he? The weather will change again, we've been told, as there is another storm headed our way, tomorrow! I saw the photo you posted of the snow in your area! It looks pretty, though!

  2. Bill disputes with insurance companies don't always end that way. $115 of "found" money is a nice surprise and timely with the high gas bill.

    1. I was very happy with the outcome! :D With the $67 I saved from the February grocery budget, the $50 I didn't spend on gas for the car, and this additional $115 refund, I will have a nice amount to offset that big gas bill. :)

  3. That's good news about the medical billing refund isn't it. It's just as well you checked without paying the bill you received. Good luck with getting your tax return completed without too much stress. I know you use a tax accountant and I don't blame you.

It's raining here so I am staying indoors and will be watching the next Harry Potter film this afternoon. xx

    1. It's very good news about the medical billing refund! I'm glad I checked online; I was getting ready to write a check when my daughter suggested paying it online!
Thank you; yes, I got the tax documents ready and double checked everything. I will drop them off at the tax accountant's office this afternoon; we made the appointment for later, this month. It will give her a little time to get everything done.
Enjoy your rainy day spent watching HP movies. :) It's sunny here, today, but, another major storm is on its way with rain in the forecast for all day, tomorrow (Friday).

  4. You did well to sort out the bill with the cancer clinic and great that you have some money refunded just when the gas bill is particularly high. I also have a folder where I keep the tax papers and a couple of plastic envelopes for medical and charitable receipts. We caught a mouse in the basement the other day and it is on the snow, turning into a "mouseicle" until the temperature goes up, and waiting for some scavenger to deal with it. It will be recycled rather than go to the dump!

    1. It was a definite surprise to find that I had a credit on my account with the cancer clinic! It'll be helpful to have that money refunded. Things do have a way of working out, don't they?
Yes, I put things in the tax folder as they come in. But, a couple of other items, such as my car registration renewal (the license fee portion of which is tax deductible) and property taxes paid (another deductible) have their own file folders (I used to take photo copies of them for the tax folder, when I had easy access to a photocopier, but, don't do that, now).
Good way to recycle the mouse; it'll provide a nice treat for some scavenger. :)

  5. That deep blue sky is lovely. It's very kind of M to fix your roof! He seems a very good friend to you. He is generous and so are you!. I have a colleague who will do small fixes around the house for me and others as well. So many kind people. It is snowing very heavily here now, but it's very wet snow so won't last long (I say hopefully!). How fortunate you are getting a refund! Good thing you called to check.

    1. That blue sky has been replaced by grey skies, again! It's raining! Apparently, we are having another 'atmospheric river' bringing us more rain and snow in the higher elevations!
M is a very kind and generous friend; I'm glad that you have a colleague who will fix things around the house for you. I hope the snow you are getting will melt soon! Being told that I will get a refund of what I had overpaid made my day! :)

  7. That's a nice amount of found money to apply to the gas bill account. Along with your excess food budget money, you are chipping away at it.
Looking at the sky pictures, I see your house along your driveway side is pretty open to T's house. Have they officially put the house on the market yet? I have my fingers crossed that you get nice quiet neighbors :)
Your garden is going to be so green with all your rain.

    1. Yes, it is a nice amount of found money, isn't it? Of course, I haven't received the check yet, but, it's good to know that it will be coming.
Today's sky is uniformly gray! It's raining since morning.
As far as I know, T's house isn't officially on the market, yet. I, too, hope that I get some nice, quiet, friendly neighbors. Otherwise, I might have to grow a hedge of potted succulents between our houses for some privacy! :D The kind that I have growing along the side wall with the other neighbors!
