Labor Day Monday

Corn Bread

Today was a holiday for us.  Well, every day is a holiday for me since I retired, but, my daughter got to enjoy a day off.

It was another hot day, but, we stayed in the mid 90s, with a high of 95F.  Not bad, at all.  It has cooled down to 71F as I type this.  I have the doors and windows open to let in the cool air.

I had a productive day, today.  I was determined to get the housework done in the morning while it was still relatively cool.  So, after I woke up, fed the cats, and said my morning prayers, etc., I put the bed sheets to wash, dusted the living room and the dining area, and tidied and cleared the top of the table in the family room as a couple of packages that had been delivered had landed there.  Later, after the sheets were dry, I cleaned the washer and the dryer with a damp micro fiber cloth.  After that, I mended my fitted sheet as there was one small tear and several little holes where a certain cat's sharp claws had gone through when he pulled himself up on to the bed and I made the bed.

In the afternoon, I spent some time on the computer, reading blogs and relaxing.  Later, I did more crewel embroidery and watched the evening news.  I called neighbor T to check on her and I called friend R.

In the evening, I took the trash cans to the curb, watered the front garden, and ran the dishwasher (washed a few items by hand, as well).  After dinner (leftovers), I baked some cornbread, as it was cool enough to turn on the oven.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Working appliances and electricity to run them
- Water for the garden
- Leftovers!
- Warm days and cool mornings
- What I was able to accomplish

Today's joyful activity was embroidering in the afternoon.

Tuesday's To Do List:

- Dust the family room
- Water the fruit trees and house plants
- Mail/drop off ballots
- Do a baby step (or two) in the spare room to tidy it
- Paperwork/Filing

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. We're enjoying a mini heatwave and have been warned that temperatures in this area could reach 30°C today, which is too hot for me but I think you'd probably enjoy it!

You did have a productive day yesterday and well done on you decluttering efforts.

    1. I would, indeed! We've already risen above that! Currently (1:25 p.m.), we are 88F/31C, here!) I just now turned on the fan. :)

Thank you; I'm slowly making some progress with the decluttering! :)

  2. When we moved, I got rid of most of my kids participation medals. They played soccer for many years and there were a lot of them. They picked one or two they were interested in to remember their teams, and the rest were donated.

Looks like you are doing the same with your daughter.

    1. Yes; I held on to her participation medals for her, but, she has decided she doesn't want them. I keep asking myself if I would take something with me if I were to move and often the answer is, "No", but, then, I am not moving so I continue to keep them! LOL!

  4. Glad you had a productive day. Mine was productive as well. Wow 95 is so hot! We are having a hot week too. Thankfully not as hot as 95 though. I'm hoping this is the last hot week for us. I am so ready for Fall. I would love to put some cornbread to bake, but that's not happening until we cool down. Hope you and your daughter had a nice Labor day. Denise

    1. Thank you, Denise; glad you had a productive day, too. Stay cool and hydrated when it is hot! The cornbread is all but finished! Just one piece left. Next time, I should double the recipe! :D Hope your week is going well.

  5. Your temperature is higher than ours but it is just pleasant enough here. I was lazy on Monday, apart from getting meals.
I spent a lot of time on a jigsaw puzzle but I did eventually go out and work on pruning some more berry plants.
Your decluttering is inspiring me, I am finding things to donate or discard.
