Couch Parkour

My daughter has been taking acrobatics/gymnastics classes at a place up in Berkeley; when the lockdown dragged on, they began to offer online classes.  One of the online classes she is taking is called "couch parkour", designed to use what is available indoors.  I remember telling her not to jump on the sofa when she was a little girl!  But, now, she does shoulder rolls:

Kong vaults:

Cat walks:

(She walked the entire length of the sofa back, which, with the back sofa cushions removed, is about two inches wide!)

As well as several other moves and hand stands to dismount!

So much for telling her not to jump on the sofa!

Meanwhile, the cat thinks the sofa back (with the cushions in place) is best for napping!

Dancer's Version of Couch Parkour!

I think I agree with Dancer!  LOL!

But, daughter's version provides her with a fun way to exercise!

Have you or any of your family members done parkour?

  1. I don't know anyone who does parkour. I definitely don't (no surprise there!) but if I ever felt the need I think I'd adopt Dancer's approach ... he has the right idea! 😊

    1. Ha, ha, I did an elaborate routine of waving my arms and legs (while seated on the sofa) before getting up as MY version of couch parkour, yesterday, and had my daughter in stitches even while she cheered me on! But, yes, I'll join you and Dancer! :D

  2. Dancer is going to wonder why she, your duaghter, gets to roll about on the sofa when he'd be told naughty kitty (lol). I've never heard of parkour but must check it out. One of the vertigo exercises I do is to kneel in the position as though you were going to do a forward somersault.

    1. Parkour apparently evolved from navigating obstacle courses. Are you seeing any improvement in your vertigo?

  3. It does look like a lot of fun, but I would have to agree with Dancer too lol. My oldest son has done some parkour but I don't think it was on his couch.

    1. She enjoys it; I prefer to sit or nap on a sofa, myself! LOL.

  4. I am afraid if I tried to walk the back of the couch either the sofa or I (and possibly both) would wind up with a serious injury!

    1. LOL, I am sure that's what would happen if I were to try it, too, Anne! My version of couch parkour is to flop down on it! :D

  5. Eek. I'd be afraid of toppling the sofa over and ending up in a mush beneath it. Great handstand!

    1. Yes, I know; I was worried the sofa might tilt, but, I guess it is fairly sturdy! There's a reason why she uses the family room sofa instead of the lighter one in the living room!

  6. Ha ha! That's funny about not jumping on the couch. Makes it more fun when you are an adult!

    1. Yes, even as a child, she was climbing all over the sofa! :D

  7. That's very impressive but I'm not the least tempted to try it. Move over Dancer, make room for me, too!

    1. LOL! The other sofa (there are two identical sofas in the family room) is getting rather crowded with Dancer and the rest of us! :D

  8. As I was reading, when I saw Dancer, I thought hmm that’s more like me!
Then I read your comment about agreeing with Dancer, and I chuckled.

I’m very impressed with your daughter’s skills though. But I prefer napping on the sofa. 😁

    1. Thank you, Debra. I think the majority of us agree with Dancer, though! :D
