Today has been a hot day in southern California, with our temperature registering 114F at 5:30 p.m., when I checked the online weather report. Inside the house was cooler, only 92F in the family room. I was fine with only the fans. However, we had a power cut of short duration around 4:00 p.m. I was glad it didn't last long.
I didn't feel very energetic when I woke up, this morning. I took it easy, responded to blog comments, and practiced the piano. Later, however, I felt better and I cleaned the cabinet under the kitchen sink. I removed everything, washed the cabinet, washed the plastic caddies I use to hold the various cleaning item (the caddies make it easy to remove the items, quickly, if there is a leak or something), relined them with folded paper towels (make cleaning them easier), and put everything back. I didn't have a lot of items to declutter - just two glass jars I had used to root some plant cuttings, one time.
No "before" pictures, only "after" pictures!

I had lined the bottom of the cabinet with contact paper several years ago - makes it easy to wash clean, but, it is starting to tear, in spots. My cutting boards, wire cooling rack, dish washing supplies on the left; other cleaning supplies (cleanser, floor mopping liquid, my homemade orange/vinegar cleaner in spray bottles, an almost empty spray container of furniture polish, etc.) on the right, extra packages of rubber gloves and my microfiber cloths in a small square container in the middle.
I also washed the dish drainer, soaking it in a bleach solution to remove stains, and shined the sinks.
In addition to cleaning, I did some coloring in a coloring book that one of my cousins gave me, along with a box of colored pencils, back when I was undergoing chemo; it is called The Meditation Coloring Book and this is my intentional joyful activity, today:
Joyful Activity - Coloring |
In the evening, I watered the front garden. I waited until 7:30 p.m. to water (I don't like to water when it is dark), but, even so, I could feel the heat coming up from the ground and even the breeze was hot!
Today, I am grateful for:
- Electricity!
- The power cut didn't last too long
- Fans
- Water for the garden
- What I was able to accomplish
I love the colouring! Well done for the undersink tidyup. I always find things at the back I'd forgotten. I must use plastic crates as caddies, it makes retrieving stuff so much easier.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. Having things in a crate would work, too, as you can pull them out as you would a drawer and access what is at the back without too much of a problem. I keep my plastic food storage containers in a dish pan - pull the whole thing out when I want a container and push it back in place.
Delete114! Is that some kind of record? The picture you colored is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt might have been, Live and Learn. Today's forecast says a high of 113F which will break the record of 111F set in 1955 for this day (Sept. 6). Must remember to drink lots of water!
DeleteThank you. I am hoping I can use some of the pictures I color for making cards. :)
I'm glad the power cut didn't last for long. That's the last thing you want on a hot day when you need the fans on to keep cool.
ReplyDeleteWell done on continuing with your cleaning schedule and other chores despite the heat. That's an interesting colouring book. The last one I bought was too small so there was nothing at all relaxing about trying to colour all the tiny shapes without going over the lines 🤣
I, too, am glad that the power came back quickly. it's too hot to be without a fan!
DeleteIt wasn't that hot when I did the cleaning. Today actually feels hotter than it did, yesterday.
There are some smaller drawings to color in the book, but, the coloring book itself is about 8 x 12 inches. I do have to put on my reading glasses to color!
Sounds like another productive day for you! When you mentioned cleaning the sink I was reminded about Flylady. Did you ever read her stuff or follow her routines? I did it for years way back and a lot has still stuck with me. I might go back for a refresher. It's Flylady.net if you want to check it out :)
ReplyDeleteI have read some of her stuff over the years, but, I haven't followed her routines. I was a member of an online organizing forum for several years, though, and some members followed her routines.
DeleteI'm amazed at how much cleaning you accomplished Friday and Saturday in the heat! You must really have the cleaning bug right now. We have never had such heat as you are having now, I think the maximum I can recall was about 104°F in the shade.
ReplyDeleteI went back to the store on Saturday and found it was not busy at all so I'm glad I waited. There was a bit of thunder and rain in the afternoon. Today is sunny and not supposed to rain but you never know. I don't think it is possible to predict with accuracy any more!
I guess I work better when it is all nice and warm? I did do the cleaning when it was a little cooler, in the morning/early afternoon.
DeleteI'm glad you were able to get your shopping done on Saturday, when it wasn't busy. Hope you get a break from the rain and enjoy a sunny Sunday. :)
Your kitchen cabinet looks nice and organized and very clean :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra! Hopefully, it will stay that way! It will be nice if I can get into a routine where these cabinets get a cleaning every 6 months or so.
