On the Mend on Monday!

I went to bed before 12:00 midnight, last night!  I couldn't believe it!  LOL.  Of course, I didn't fall asleep, right away, but, I fell asleep sometime after 12:30 a.m.  Which is not bad.  Then, around 2:30 a.m. or so, I woke up coughing.  This time, I was wise - I got up and took a dose of cough syrup!  Then, I went back to bed and slept until around 8:00 a.m.!  I was woken by the sound of a child abduction alert on my cell phone.  I couldn't fall back asleep, after that, so, around 8:30 a.m., I got up and had a cup of tea.

I don't want to jinx it, but, I woke up feeling much better, today.  All that sleeping, yesterday, probably helped.

I took it easy in the morning, however, and didn't do anything much as I didn't feel very energetic.  I thought I might write out my holiday greetings cards, but, I didn't.  Instead, I read a bit and knitted a bit.

In the afternoon, however, I washed the dishes that had been accumulating in the sink for the past few days!  Most of it were washed in the dishwasher, but, I washed my china teacups and saucers by hand.  I also cleaned out the fridge, just a little bit.  There were some dishes leftover from the almsgiving that I didn't freeze, thinking I'll eat them during the week, but, I didn't feel like eating them when I got sick.  So, I tossed them.  I hate to waste food, but, I don't want to get food poisoning, either!  Then, I took the kitchen trash out to the big trash bin and took the big trash bin and yard waste bin to the curb for pick up in the morning.  By that time, I was feeling tired and I considered not taking the trash cans out, but, the next trash collection day falls on Christmas Eve and, although it is a regular working day for the city trash collections services, I wasn't sure if there might be route and schedule changes.  I started the car, too, for a few minutes, but it needs to be driven a bit, tomorrow.

Brunch had been an egg salad sandwich with some grapes as an afternoon snack.  I had wanted milkrice and spicy sauteed onions (seeni sambol) in the afternoon, but, by the time I did the dishes, etc., I was too tired to cook (thus the grapes for a snack).  Later, however, after tea, I went ahead and made the milkrice and the onion sambol for dinner.  Milkrice is usually eaten for breakfast, but, it was just what I wanted!  There's enough leftover for breakfast, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Feeling better
- Cough syrup
- A working dishwasher
- Weekly trash pick up services
- This cuddly kitten:

Dancer

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. So glad you are on the mend. It sounds like you paced yourself and didn't overdo it. Which is what happens to me quite often and then I relapse. There is still nothing better than sleep for healing. Hope you are up to full speed soon.

    1. Thank you, Susanne. I was forced to pace myself as I didn't have the energy to do more! I am planning to take it easy today, too.

    1. He comes and checks on me, from time to time, especially if I am lying down on the sofa. Or, if I am still in bed when it is his breakfast time! :D

    1. Thank you, Anne. I always seem to get sick by the end of the year. I can't believe it's going to be the start of a whole new decade in just a few days!

  5. I’m glad you’re feeling better, Bless. Sounds like this might have the side benefit of resetting/adjusting your sleep “clock.” I hope you continue to mend.

    1. Thank you, Chris. I hope it will reset my sleep clock, but, I don't know - I woke up around 2:00 a.m., last night, and couldn't fall back asleep for some time, then, slept in this morning! But, we shall see. :)

  7. I'm so glad to hear that you felt well enough to sort out your kitchen and take out the trash. I always feel that when something like that gets done, even if you don't do anything else, it is a good start towards feeling better. Dancer obviously approves!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. The sight of dirty dishes in the kitchen was getting me down! I'm not feeling quite as energetic today, which is worrying me, but, I do have a doctor's appointment coming up on Friday, so, at least I'll get checked.

    1. Thank you, Nil. Maybe you can make yourself a little milk rice for breakfast, tomorrow. :) Some people make it in the rice cooker, but, I always make it on the stove top. I had some of the leftovers for brunch, today.

  9. It's good that you did some cooking while you had the energy. You sound very weak. Sleep is a great healer. Too bad you had to toss the leftovers, but as you said, it's better than getting food poisoning.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Whatever I am having doesn't seem to be an ordinary cold and cough. If I had a fever, I'd have thought it was the flu (although I took the flu shot). I've a doctor's appointment coming up on Friday; it's with the oncologist (a regularly scheduled visit) and, hopefully, I'll be over this cold and cough, but, it'll be good to get checked.

  10. Glad you’re on the mend. I’m intrigued - what is an child abduction alert’ on your cell phone? Doesn’t sound good. Christine x

    1. Thank you, Christine. We get a public service announcement/alert over the cell phone when there is a child abduction in the county - the phone beeps and any information related to the abduction, such as a car make and color or license plate number, is sent to us as a text, and a number to call if we have any information.
