Blood Tests and Meditation on Friday

I had to go for some blood tests, today.  Rather than go in first thing in the morning, when they are busiest, and then, rush off to work, I took the day off.  So, I was able to sleep in and go for the blood tests around 11:00 a.m., when the morning rush was over.  I had to be fasting for the blood tests, so, I was hungry afterwards.  I half wanted to get some shopping done, but I knew better than to do so on an empty stomach.  So, instead of going shopping, I stopped by my favorite Thai food place and bought some fried rice for lunch.  I suppose I could have eaten at the restaurant and done my shopping, afterwards, but I chose to come home and eat.  After lunch, instead of going shopping, I took a nap!  From about 2:00 p.m. till almost 6:00 p.m.!  I was shocked to see it was past 5:45 p.m., when I woke up!  I didn't think I had slept for so long.  I guess I was really tired!  Of course, if I had gone to work, after the lab test, I couldn't have taken a nap.

I had a cup of tea and then, it was time to pick up friend R and go to the temple for meditation.  It was another good session and afterwards, we stayed for a portion of the questions and answers session.  We were there until almost 9:00 p.m., then, I dropped R off and came home.

Tomorrow evening, the temple is having a special 3-part ceremony: a blessing ceremony, followed by the Sunday school children giving a performance, followed by dinner for all the participants.  I am not sure if I will attend the whole thing, but I might go for the first part.  If I do decide to participate more fully in the temple activities once I retire, there will be something almost every weekend.

After I came home, I video chatted with my daughter and watched some TV, including some pre-wedding coverage.  I am not sure if I will stay up to watch the whole thing, but I am enjoying watching the guests arriving, as I type this.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to take a day off from work
- The blood tests went smoothly
- Friendly, cheerful lab workers
- Afternoon naps
- Being able to attend the meditation session at the temple

How was your Friday?  Are you glad that the work week is behind you and you have the weekend to look forward to?

  1. It sounds like a perfectly wonderful Friday and last day of the work week. I have heard that a good sleep and a good laugh will cure almost anything. Your afternoon nap followed by meditation has to be good for the soul. Enjoy your weekend.

    1. It was rather indulgent, to sleep so much in the afternoon, but it felt really good. And the meditation sessions are a very nice way to end the week. A long time ago, my daughter and I used to take a ballet class on Friday evenings and that was a lot of fun, too. :) Hope you are having a lovely weekend, yourself, Susan.

  2. I did watch some of the Royal Wedding coverage this morning. It was an easy way to start this rainy morning. The British know how to put on a show.

    1. They sure do, Live and Learn. Hope the rainy morning gave way to some sunshine in the afternoon. It was a grey morning, here, but no rain. The afternoon is sunny; I have the windows open and can hear the birds singing.

  3. I had blood tests last week and was asked if I minded if a trainee took my blood. Not at all, and I was delighted at her expertise, I hardly felt the needle go in at all, and I told her how good she was. The lab nurse in charge said that some people just have the knack.

I'm glad you are having these long naps, you obviously need them and it shows that you are able to relax and let go, which is important. It must be the thought of retirement! I had a good hour's nap on the couch on Thursday afternoon. This afternoon, after attending a funeral and doing some grocery shopping in the morning, I finally got onto the computer and watched the entire coverage of the Royal wedding and loved it! It is so good to have something uplifting in the news when there is so much that is sad and tragic.

    1. Bushlady, hope your blood test results are all good. My daughter took a phlebotomist course, once, as she considered a career in it, at one time, but found that she hated it! Although she completed the course and did the practicals, she decided that it wasn't for her!

The wedding was lovely, wasn't it? Yes, I stayed up and watched it!
