I went grocery shopping on my way home from work, today, and bought:
1 gallon milk = $2.59
5 lb. bag flour = $1.99
1 loaf bread = $1.29
1 doz. eggs = $3.89 (!)
1 (32 oz.) flavored coffee creamer = $2.50
1 ice cream = $2.50
1+ lb. grapes @ $.89/lb = $1.01
Total = $15.77
The price of eggs has skyrocketed! I was very reluctant to pay that much for a dozen large eggs, but, I was down to one last egg, so I decided to buy some, no matter the price.
I also bought some cat food, but that's not included in my grocery totals.
My September grocery budget is $75.
What's left in the budget = $75 - $15.77 = $59.23
I had taken out some cooked salmon from the freezer to have for my dinner, tonight, but I didn't feel like having it. Instead, I took out a hamburger patty from the freezer, thawed it in the microwave and pan-fried it. I made some fries to go with it and some corn. And had that for dinner. I guess I'll have the salmon for my lunch, tomorrow, with rice, green peas, and tomato chutney.
In other news, I called and made an appointment to see my doctor, next Tuesday, to go over the biopsy results; hopefully, the doctor's office will have received the results by then! The appointment desk wanted to make the appointment for next Thursday, but I said that was too long to wait to find out the results.
How was your day? Have you gone grocery shopping yet in September? How much are you paying for a dozen large eggs in your area?
Jess@Mama Wolf had posted a comment which I accidentally deleted! Sorry, Jess. I'm copying and pasting it here:
ReplyDeleteThat is expensive! When I bought eggs last Saturday they were somewhere around $2.60 I believe. I went grocery shopping on Wednesday. I didn't need to, but took advantage of some sales and alone time. I shouldn't have to to shopping for a while now.
Jess, so sorry to have accidentally deleted! I was trying to publish it, I promise! Glad you were able to take advantage of sales and alone time. Nice to have a stock pile so you won't have to grocery shop for a while.
DeleteBless- large eggs are 2.96 at the grocery stores here in WI. The convenience store has them for 1.99. I am going to continue buying them often to keep up with any big price change. They jumped from 1.29 to 1.99 in one week. Refrigerated eggs keep a long time. Frugal
ReplyDeleteFrugal, I used to refuse to pay more than $2 for a doz. eggs, but I guess egg prices went up due to the avian flu causing the reduction in flocks. I only eat 1-2 eggs a week, unless I bake, so they'll last me at least a month.
DeleteYou found some great deals on your groceries.. Oh eggs..... The prices are terrible. My husband read in our Ms. market bulletin, that due to this chicken flu thing, that we would see the eggs go even higher [up to $7 dozen---I will be doing with out.ha]... My son has chickens, he brought me 18 pack today.. I was so thankful. [I had bought a dozen yesterday and paid right at $4. I needed them to make the cake for kids visit..
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day.
Nice of your son to bring you eggs! I think we will all have to start keeping our own chickens!
