| October Groceries Part 3: 10/11/26 |
Yes! I ordered more groceries on Saturday evening to be delivered on Sunday morning. Mostly because I wanted to buy more sugar at the "pick up and delivery only" sale price of $1.99/4 lb. package. This time, however, several of the items I ordered were out of stock. The out of stock items included store brand vanilla ice cream, store brand cranberry juice, and the sugar. There was no indication, at the time of ordering, that any of these items were low in stock as sometimes happens when I order. But, I guess in the time between ordering and shopping, these items were sold out! I watched a video someone had posted online about empty shelves at their Kroger store in a Midwestern state and I wondered if our store shelves were empty, too. Anyway, I am thankful I received the items I did receive!
Here's the receipt:
Order Summary
Item Details
10 Items
Other Fees
$0.40
My total came to $19.31
Going through the receipt, I noticed that I had not been charged for the package of bacon, which was on sale for $3.99 for 12 oz. I knew from past experiences that the store would simply say to keep the bacon. So, that's what I'm doing!
My October grocery budget is $250.
Spent to date: $43.94 + $68.71+ $19.31 = $131.96
Balance left: $118.04
I am honestly not planning to order any more groceries in the next couple of days!
I cooked a curry with the tray of chicken I purchased in this order and froze some of it for later. The bacon has been frozen, too.
Are you noticing any empty shelves in your grocery store?

The shelves seem mostly full here, although sometimes Walmart's stocking does not keep up with demand.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. I'm glad your store shelves seem to be mostly full. I'm wondering if the stores are not restocking the items that are on sale that week? Sale prices are supposed to last all week, but, the grocery ads do state, "While supplies last".
DeleteI had to run into Aldi to buy ice cream to take to my Independence Place volunteer day and noticed fully stocked shelves. But then, it was just a run in and run out visit for me.
ReplyDeleteI have learned how wonderful my local Walmart grocery pick up is. I was kind of late to the party, but I have learned to make sure I have 35 dollars worth of items (when in doubt I can always add toilet paper) to avoid the processing fee.
I'm glad you were able to buy the ice cream you needed, Anne, and the shelves were fully stocked. Glad you've discovered the Walmart pick up services. Yes, you have to have the minimum $$ amount to get the free pick up, but, there's always some household item you can add to reach that amount. :)
DeleteDear friend, I love your posts! I appreciate all you share, your menus, your grocery budget and you do so well at saving money and eating well. As far as empty shelves in the grocery stores here in Montreal, I do my shopping twice a month and haven't noticed this recently. During Covid, oh my goodness, it was terrible! People were panic-buying, and yes, there were so many empty shelves as the stores were trying to keep up with the demand.
ReplyDeleteHowever, this can, and may occur from time to time...fortunately the only thing I did notice was that cottage cheese was out of stock for a while because nutritionists were saying how healthy it is so everybody started running to buy it! LOL! But now the stores have prepared for this so it is back in stock.
Thank you, Linda; I'm glad you enjoy my posts. I'm also glad that the store shelves there are well stocked. I remember how shocked I was at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, when I went to the store to get a few regular groceries for myself and some toilet paper for my friend and saw the empty shelves! We are now being told to stock up on a few items such as bottled water and shelf stable food due to inclement weather when roads might be flooded or the power goes off. I like to be prepared, just in case. :)
DeleteI find it annoying when they shops say they have something in stock only when you order it you find it's out of stock!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping I could get some of the bargains, but, I guess everyone is looking for the bargains these days and they go fast. Anyway, I'm happy with what I did get.
