| May 23 Groceries |
I received my grocery order on Saturday afternoon. The store was apparently out of a few things I had ordered (salmon on sale and bottled water on sale) and I had specified no substitutions. But, I received most of the items I wanted, including the basics and some extras, so it worked out well enough.
I bought bread, hamburger buns, milk, half & half, chicken, frozen burger patties, a bottle of salad dressing, a seedless watermelon, strawberries, and, not shown in the picture above, bottles of sparkling water. I shopped the week's specials and used coupons to the extent possible. The strawberries, for example, were on sale for $3.99 for a 2-lb. container. In addition, I had a coupon for $0.80 off on the purchase of two 2-lb. containers, which brought the price per container down to $3.59. As a result, I was able to buy two containers of strawberries for under what one container would have cost if I had paid full price (which was $7.99/2 lb. container).
Here's the receipt:
Item Details
43 Items
Other Fees
$0.40
My total came to $65.03
I had $81.72 left in my May grocery budget after my previous grocery purchases on May 18
Balance left in the May grocery budget = $81.72 - $65.03 = $16.69
There is another week left in the month, but, I don't anticipate ordering more groceries next week. So, the $16.69 will be carried forward to June.
As always, I am grateful for:
- The availability of groceries
- Being able to order groceries on-line and have them delivered
- The occasional deals to offset the increasingly higher prices
- Being able to stock up on a couple of items
- The occasional splurges
How are you coming along with your grocery shopping this month? Are you finding some good deals?

Looks like grocery delivery is working out for you. During the pandemic, we tried to do grocery delivery, but we were too far from any of the stores, so no one would come to our house.
ReplyDeleteYes, June, it is working out quite well. There are a few things I have to keep in mind, such as opting out of substitutions or specifying the exact substitution if I don't want to pay extra, but, I'm getting the hang of it. :) I'm sorry you weren't able to get delivery during the pandemic. I mostly did pick up during the pandemic, but, my daughter had deliveries at her apartment and, once or twice, she arranged for deliveries to be made for me, too.
DeleteYou got a great deal on the strawberries. This afternoon, I've been looking into the costs for getting my shopping delivered. I'm still undecided, as I like to be able to see the fresh produce that I buy. I think I might have another try the supermarket, which is next to Lily's youth club. As I have to wait around while she's there, being able to get the weekly shop would be a good use of my time. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules; I was very happy with the deal on strawberries. :) If you are able to grocery shop while you wait for Lily to be done with her youth club, then, that might work out well - I used to do that when my daughter was at her dance class! :)
DeleteI bought a cantaloupe yesterday, expecting to pay $3.97, but I think my loyalty phone number must have given me a surprise deal, as the receipt says $1.99, with the original price mentioned underneath. It isn't ripe enough to eat yet, so I have put it in a dish with the bananas.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that was a nice surprise! $1.99 is a very good price for a cantaloupe! They are selling for $3.79 for a regular cantaloupe and $3.99 for a Tuscan melon. :)
