| Curly Kale Growing in the Garden |
I ordered groceries on Friday evening and they were delivered on Saturday. I was very careful to specify if I wanted any substitutions and if so, which substitutions I wanted. This time, I received everything I ordered without needing to have anything substituted.
I bought a cucumber, some fruit, some convenience items, treats (ice cream bars), and some pantry items. The majority of the items I purchased were on sale with store discounts, digital coupons, etc. I paid regular price for other items, such as the canned mackerel.
I was all out of canned mackerel (used the last can I had in the pantry, back in early December to make fish cutlets). I had been waiting for a sale on canned mackerel to stock up, but, they haven't gone on sale and with the way things are right now, I very much doubt if they will go on sale any time soon! So, I decided to buy two cans to have on hand. In addition to fish cutlets, I like to make a curry with canned mackerel and we haven't had that in a while, either.
I didn't need to buy a lot of vegetables this time because, earlier in the week, I picked a bunch of curly kale from my garden:

Here's the grocery receipt:
Order Summary
Item Details
25 Items
Other Fees
$0.60
My total came to $57.18
My April grocery budget is $250 - $3.70 March overspend = $246.30
Total spent to date = $59.53+ $57.18 = $116.71
Balance remaining = $246.30 - $116.71 = $129.59
I am assuming that I will need to do three more grocery orders this month and as long as I keep each otder to an average of $43, I should come within budget this month.
I am grateful for:
- The availability of groceries
- Sales, coupons, and special offers
- Being able to order groceries online
- Being able to have the groceries delivered
- Homegrown produce
Have you gone grocery shopping this week? Are you finding good deals? What are some of the pantry staples you'll buy at regular price?

You do really well with your sales and coupons!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done my menu for next week yet. I do have a few things on hand that I plan on using. I haven't seen a lot of really good deals lately. If I do I grab them up as things are so much more expensive than they used to be
Thank you, Sharon. I'm trying to shop the sales as much as I can, but, it's getting harder, isn't it? I haven't made a meal plan for next week, yet, either.
DeleteWonderful kale! I noted the cans of tuna and had a little sad thought of missing photos of Dancer. He had a happy little life with you both, didn't he?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. All that kale has been shredded and cooked with grated coconut, onions, turmeric and other spices and made into mallung. I will freeze some and keep the rest to eat with rice, this week.
DeleteAh, yes, our dear little Dancer. We miss him so much, but, I know he had the best life we could give him.
You've got some great deals, Bless.
ReplyDeleteI've been organised and shopped ahead for the week. My meal plan is stuck to the fridge :)
I'm back at work this week, but I've already made my curry for this evening. Xx
Thank you, Jules.
DeleteYou are very organized! Well done getting the shopping and the meal planning done and having the meal plan up on the fridge. My meal plan for the week is "leftovers"! Lots of leftovers to use up! :)
It's always interesting to see what grocery prices are like in other parts of the country. I always expect your produce to be cheaper since much is grown in CA, but that's not always the case from what I see.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. One would think that our produce prices will be cheaper, but, they are not. At least, not at this store. The ethnic store I sometimes go to have better produce prices, but, they don't do delivery (or, even store pick up) and their produce often tends to spoil after a couple of days. The produce from the store I order for delivery is better quality and I guess one pays for what one gets.
DeleteIt's probably good you got your mackerel - as you said, who knows what will happen with prices.
ReplyDeleteHow nice you have the kale. That saves you some money on vegetable purchasing.
As I respond, it's the 19th and I'm already close to my budget.
uh oh
Yes, Debra, I am glad I got my cans of mackerel. In fact, I might get two more cans, next month.
DeleteThe kale has been a blessing! It is producing so well.
Oh, no! You're close to your budget! Well, it happens, doesn't it? I've gone over budget from time to time, myself. Hope you don't go over by too much.
