| My Second Weather Vane |
Back in March 2025, I wrote about the first weather vane I had seen. Well, almost a year later, I am finally able to post a picture of my second weather vane!
I first noticed this weather vane last summer, when I was driving back from a medical appointment. At the time, I was after a medical procedure and all I wanted to do was get home. I was not going to pull over to find a place to park my car to take a picture of the weather vane. But, I promised myself that the next time I drive past that particular building, I will take a picture.
Well, today, I had to go for another medical appointment and on the way back, I passed the building with the weather vane. This time, my daughter was driving me back from my medical appointment and she was nervous enough about driving in rush hour traffic that I didn't want to ask her to change lanes and pull over for me to take pictures of a weather vane, either. But, the traffic was moving slowly enough that I was able to take a few pictures from the passenger seat.

The building was originally built in 1979 and is supposed to be a replica of Mount Vernon, President George Washington's home.

| A Dove of Peace |
According to what I read online, the original Mount Vernon has weather vane with a gilded Dove of Peace, holding an olive branch in its beak, mounted on it. I don't know if this particular Dove of Peace was ever gilded; if it was, it doesn't look gilded right now.

Congrats! We have a weather vane on top of our house, and it was one of the things that sold me on it. However, now, I don't look at it very much. I'm gonna have to change that. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, June! How fortunate to have your own weather vane! I'd love to see a picture of it!
DeleteI hope that the medical appointment went well.
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing picture. The glimpse of the building is intriguing and I googled George Washington's house in Vermont. The pic of the weathervane must have taken some doing, as it's at such an angle, but it looks gorgeous.
And your sky is so blue! It's an amazing colour.
I hope the sciatica is easing off.
Thank you, Lyssa.
DeleteYes, the appointment went well; it was one of those routine screening checks that, sometimes, turn out to be not so routine, after all. 11 years ago, it detected a lump which turned out to be cancerous.
The sky was a lovely, clear blue, yesterday. :)
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. :)
DeleteThat is a lovely weather vane and I'm wondering when I last ever saw one! Perhaps they are not around as much in Canada.
ReplyDeleteI am finding out that there are very few weather vanes here in my area, at least. I know that there is one other weather vane on a house in one of the historic districts that is considered a cultural monument. But, I haven't taken a trip out there, yet.
DeleteBeautiful photos. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. :)
DeleteYou were able to snap some good photos from the car. I didn't know any of the particulars about the Mt Vernon weathervane so I found that interesting.
ReplyDeleteI saw earlier that the olive branch has been removed from the eagle's grasp on the newly minted dime I think it was. So now it's just holding the spears. Have you heard that?
I'm not going to say anything else.
Thank you, Debra.
DeleteYes, the design for the new dime to celebrate the 250 anniversary of independence shows the eagle with only the arrows; no olive branch, no oak branch, and no torch. I haven't actually seen any of the new dimes, though. I shall have to check all the change I receive when I buy stuff.
Congratulations on your second weather vane! And it's a good one! I'm impressed you took these pics from the car. Lucky that the traffic was moving slowly (sounds like London)! I'm intrigued by the bit jutting out at a right angle towards the camera. I wonder what it is...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella. Traffic was more or less crawling at that time of the afternoon. The bit jutting out is one of two columns holding up the sign with the name of the bank. :)
DeleteI'm talking about the appendage on the weather vane! Anyway it doesn't matter.
DeleteDo you mean the rod on which the dove is mounted? Apparently, on the original Mt. Vernon building's weather vane (of which this is a copy), the dove was mounted on a lightning rod.
