March Grocery Shopping - Part 2

I put in an order for groceries yesterday (Saturday) and the items were delivered today (Sunday).  This is the second delivery and I must say that everything went very smoothly, without any missing items or substitutions.  Once again, I received notifications (I had requested that I be notified), before the shopping began in case I wanted to make any changes to the order, when the shopping started, when the shopper checked out, and when the driver was on their way, giving an estimated time of arrival.  Since I wasn't waiting at the door, they left the bags on the doorstep and sent me a text with the picture of the bags.  But, I was able to get to the door before the driver left.

Daughter brought the groceries in and put them away for me.

Some of the items I bought were regular priced, but, many of the items I bought were either on sale or had a digital coupon or were a multi-buy deal (the Cheetos, for example, were on sale for $1.99 each if you bought four, which is an even better deal than the four for $10 deal they sometimes have).

Others (the breakfast sausages, cheese, and butter) were on special discount for those who have purchased the annual membership (through which I am able to get free delivery on orders over $35).  I have highlighted those membership discount prices in pink in the receipt, below.

They are excellent stock up prices as far as I am concerned.  I have been buying the breakfast sausages when they'd go on sale for $2.50 a package (last bought in November 2025) and butter when it goes on sale for $2.99 (last butter purchase was on February 10), recently.  This week, the breakfast sausages are on sale for $1.49 a package with a store loyalty card but without the membership, which is a really good price and I would have definitely stocked up at that price.  However, with the paid membership, I received $0.50 off each package, which made it an even better deal.  Butter is on sale for $3.99 with a loyalty card, but without the membership and I might have held off buying it at that price since I still had some butter in the freezer; however, with the member discount, it was definitely a stock up price.

I was completely out of Worcestershire sauce and the brand I usually buy was priced at $5.99/10 fl. oz. bottle while the store brand was $2.19/10 fl. oz.  So, I thought I will try the store brand to see if I like it.

Here's the receipt:

Total spent = $62.36

However, $4.95 + $0.48 tax were for toothpaste, and I don't include toiletries, cleaning products, etc. in my grocery budget; only food (including snacks) and drinks.

So, the grocery portion of my bill came to $62.36 - $5.43 = $56.93

My March Grocery Budget: $250 + $73.64 carried over from February = $323.64

Spent to date: $69.63 + $57.54 + $56.93 = $184.10

Balance Remaining: $139.54

I am comfortable with having almost $140 left in the grocery budget in mid-March.  I will be able to take advantage of any deals and I will be able to stock up on a few other pantry items that will probably only go up in price in the coming months.  The last time I bought sugar, for example, was in October 2025 and I paid $7.99/10 lb., regular price.  I still have sugar in the pantry, but, with jam and chutney making season coming up, I checked the price of sugar, yesterday and the same 10 lb. bag of sugar has gone up $0.50 in price to $8.49.  Five cents a pound in five months is not too bad, but, still, it is an indication of the direction in which prices are headed.  I might stock up on sugar on the next shopping order.

As always, I am grateful for:

- The availability of groceries
- The grocery store membership my daughter paid for
- Being able to get the groceries delivered as a benefit of the membership
- Special discounts with a paid membership
- Being able to stock up

How are you doing with your grocery shopping this month?  Are you finding good deals?  Are you noticing any price increases?

  1. Simply by getting my weekly shop on Saturday, I feel like I'm off to a positive start. I spent more than usual by stocking up on cat food. You've got some good deals there.
I would probably save time by getting my shopping delivered, but with Lily's dietary requirements, I couldn't chance any possible substitutions. Xx

    1. It does feel good to get a head start on the week ahead with the grocery shopping done, doesn't it? Ah, yes, cat food. I'm giving all of Dancer's food to the garden cats who are very appreciative! They are not too interested in the newly opened bag of indoor cat food, but they like the canned food! LOL.
Yes, if anyone in the family has dietary requirements, then, it is better to spend the time and do the shopping in person rather than take any risks with substitutions. Unless you can specify no substitutions. I have the option of doing that.

  2. It sounds like this delivery service is working out. With the extra savings on groceries and gas from not going to the store, it might pay for itself.

    1. Thank you, June; yes, I think it is working out well. I am hoping that my savings will cover the cost of the membership, or, at the very least, reduce it. The membership fee averages out to $5.75 a month and I've already saved $4 on the sausages and the cheese which are the two items I would have bought at the store's loyalty card price. I saved even more on the butter, because the last time I stocked up on butter (October 2025), it was $2.99/lb. This week's membership savings have covered 2 months of the fees and brought the average monthly fee down to under $5. I am happy with that. :)

  3. I can tell you are enjoying this new delivery system. I get a kick out of how quickly delivery people come and disappear. They are faster than the tooth fairy!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, I am enjoying the new delivery system, which is quite funny considering how opposed I was to it, initially, because I didn't want to pay for it. But, now, I am on a mission to see if I can cover the membership fee through member discounts, while still only purchasing what I would have purchased, anyway. :)

  4. That is amazing shopping!
I'm glad that the delivery went well. They take better care of you than they do here. As for the deals - I'm so impressed. Getting the breakfast sausage at that price was a great chance to stock up. In fact, those were 'pile the pantry high' prices almost all the way through. You paid very close to 50% of the list price.
I like the sound of the Maple Pork sausages. They sound very flavoursome.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. Yes, I saved almost 49% on my groceries on this order. :) I am very pleased with that! The maple pork sausages have the aroma of maple syrup. They go very well with pancakes or waffles and pancake syrup. :)

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. Yes, it's working out well, so far. I haven't seen Jennifer in a long time! I think she got promoted and stopped bringing out the groceries to the car.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Yes, the free deliveries and the member discounts make the membership fee worth it. They don't always have the member discounts (the upcoming week's sales ad doesn't show any), but, I will take advantage of them when they become available.

    1. Thank you, Linda. The grocery shopping is going well so far. I've already checked this week's deals and will make a grocery order for later in the week or maybe even early next week.

  8. You got a great price on the sausages and your butter. Very good price on the butter.
I got butter the other day for $2.49 and that's the best I've seen on a sale price in a while.
I hope you catch a good sale for sugar. That's great that another perk of your membership is an additional discount on certain things now and then.

    1. Thank you, Debra. The same sausages are on sale for $2 this week, so I'm glad I stocked up when I did. :) You got a good sale price on your butter. I would have stocked up at that price because, prior to this, I've stocked up on butter at $2.99.
Sugar doesn't seem to go on sale, anymore. In fact, the 10 lb. sugar has gone up by 50¢. But, I ordered a 10 lb. bag, yesterday, anyway, as I expect prices to go up.
