Mid-Week Update

Hibiscus Flower

We had rain on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning!  The rain was very welcomem but, the accompanying gusty winds weren't that welcome!  There's more rain in the forecast for next week, too, which is good as it means that this will not be a drought year.

There was sunshine in the afternoon on Wednesday, and gardener M was able to tend to the garden.  He didn't have to water, thanks to the rain, so he was able to do some tidying, weeding, and transplanting.

The gas company had sent a notice that they will be in my area in the next 30 days, doing routine safety inspections, and needed clear access to the gas meters.  So, I had M prune some of the succulents that were a bit overgrown.  Some of the euphorbia prunings were put in the yardwaste bin and some of the aloe prunings planted elsewhere in the front garden.  One succulant plant was moved to the back garden.  Some irises were also transplanted.

On Wednesday, I made some phone calls to schedule medical appointments and I altered a pair of pants (trousers).  I also watched a live stream of the conclusion of the Buddhist Monks' Walk for Peace as they arrived in Washington, D.C.  I have been following them as they walked; the monks from the Temple I attend had participated in a blessing ceremony before the monks set out on their walk from Fort Worth, Texas, in October.  I also watched some of the coverage of the Winter Olympics.

Brunch on Wednesday was tuna salad on crackers and a banana with peanut butter.  For dinner, I made pork fried rice.

I am grateful for:

- Rain for the garden
- The winds didn't cause any damage in my neighborhood
- M's help with the garden
- Sunshine after the rain
- A peaceful conclusion to the Walk for Peace

Joyful activities have included sewing, watching videos, and watching the Winter Olympics.

Plans for Thursday include more phone calls and appointment scheduling, some sewing, and a little bit of paperwork.

How is your week coming along?

  3. Happy for no wind damage and happier for the rain. That is a beautiful hibiscus flower and I know it appreciated the rain. I have only one that made it through the winter (so far)

  4. Whew...........you've been busy! I envy you getting do some things in the garden. We still have snow on the ground and if the weather folks are right, we might get more; just as what's there has started to melt. Beautiful flower, such a pretty color. I've been following the Monks too, was sad the one got hit and lost a leg. We've watched small bits of the Olympics. I like pair skating and the dancing. So much talent.

    1. I had taken things rather easy in January, so, I need to catch up on a few things in February. :) I'm so happy I can garden all year.
Yes, it was very sad that one of the monks lost a leg in the accident. But, he was able to rejoin the other monks at the very end, in his wheel chair.
I enjoy watching the Olympics, especially the skating and the skiing events. :)

  5. I noticed in the BBC news that the Buddhist monks had reached Washington, DC at last. They are to be commended for drawing attention with their prayer walk, to the need for peace in our world.

    1. Yes, and they seem to have struck a chord with many of the people who watched them online or showed up in person to see them as they walked. The vast majority of the people who greeted them seemed genuinely grateful, So many of us are in need of peace in our lives and in our world.

    1. The Walk for Peace was rather amazing, Lyssa. I couldn't believe the number of people who lined the route to show support. There were, of course, some who protested against them, but, the majority of the people showed support.
Oh, the rain was a blessing and there is more in the forecast for next week! The garden (and the weeds) will thrive!
Thank you; I have 6 medical appointments lined up over the next 6 weeks or so, starting with one, today! :D

  11. Banana and peanut butter are the best combination. I like mine on rice cakes :)
I really hope this weather means you will avoid a drought year. It always surprises me when we have droughts here, considering the amount of rain we get.
Have a lovely week, Bless. Xx

I try to conserve water even in non-drought years, but, the garden grows better when there's regular watering. Hope you have a lovely week, too, Jules.
