I ordered and picked up some groceries today (Tuesday, February 10).
I needed more half and half for my daughter's coffee, more bananas, and another loaf of sandwich bread.
I was out of pancake mix and ketchup so I bought a new box of pancake mix (paying regular price for it) and a bottle of ketchup (on sale this week with digital coupons).
The smoked sausages were on sale with a digital coupon and a "best customer" coupon, at a stock up price (which used to be the old regular price about 5 years ago). I bought the maximum 5 allowed to stock up.
The store brand bagels were free with a "best customer" coupon, so, of course, I had to get a package!
Butter was also on sale with a digital coupon and I decided to get two pounds of unsalted butter.
The unsalted peanuts are my "go to" snack, these days, so I went ahead and bought two cans.
My groceries would have cost me $77.43 if I had paid full price for everything. By shopping the sales, mostly, I saved $35.44.
I've posted the receipt below.
Order Summary
Item Details
15 Items
Other Fees
$0.30
Total spent = $42.29
In addition, I picked up a box of cereal for $0.49 at the pharmacy, last week. I had gone to the pharmacy to pick up a medication refill that was ready and I had a $2 "extra care bucks" coupon. Cereal was on sale for $2.49 a box (apparently, that is their new sale price; previously, it would be on sale for $1.99 a box), so I bought a box of cereal for $0.49 with my $2.00 off coupon.
My February grocery budget is $250 plus $57.42 carried over from January = $307.42
Total spent to date = $99.37 + $0.49 + $42.29 = $142.15
Balance left in the budget = $307.42 - $142.15 = $165.27
As always, I am grateful for:
- Being able to order groceries online and pick up the same day
- The availability of groceries
- Sales and coupons
- A safe drive to the store and back
- A working fridge/freezer and electricity to run it
How is your grocery shopping coming along?
You did really well 👏 ❤️
ReplyDeleteStocking up on sales items, using discount coupons is a great way to bring down grocery prices. You saved more than 50%.
Thank you, Linda. I try to shop the sales as much as possible to keep the grocery costs down. :)
DeleteI've been getting cereal with my extra care bucks, too. Right now, I am enjoying some Grapenuts courtesy of the bucks.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you are also getting cereal with your extra care bucks, June. I bought regular Cheerios. :)
DeleteYou did really well with your coupons and sale items!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I try to take full advantage of sales and coupons. :)
DeleteThanks for breaking the costs down for us Bless
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Jean. I like to keep track of what I spend for groceries and what each item costs. :)
DeleteI'm surprised at how well you do! I am struggling with rising grocery costs. I refuse to pay the price of some items I used to buy. I'm working on rethinking menus!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. I, too, have been balking at paying the regular price for certain items; ground beef, for example, is $8.49/lb. and ground turkey is $7.49/lb. (I just checked the prices on the store website) and I am not buying it at that price. I try to wait until things go on sale to buy them and I generally plan my menus based on what I've purchased on sale. Rethinking your menus is a good idea. :)
DeleteWonderful and smart shopping trip. I did a little stocking up today which is at odds with my desire to use things from the freezer.
ReplyDeleteI am not buying anything but groceries (except for one fundraiser shopping trip that resulted in 3 gifts for Pip) and I miss getting extra care bucks.
Thank you, Anne. Sometimes, you have to stock up when there's a good sale even if the plan is to use up things from the freezer. :)
DeleteI usually buy only medications from the pharmacy, so, I'm always surprised when I receive extra care bucks.
Those are incredible savings!
ReplyDeleteI saw your point about the new sale price being $2.49 instead of $1.99. Prices are creeping up and even the sale prices are higher.
It looks like a great shop!
Thank you, Lyssa. Yes, prices, including sale prices, are going up! I try to shop the deals when I can and that helps.
DeleteGood job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, e. :)
