October Meal Planning Week 5 Review and November Meal Planning: Week 1

Peach Cobbler


These were my meal plan options for October Week 5:

Brunches:  Cold cuts sandwiches; Bagels, Cereal and milk;  milkrice with fish curry and seeni sambol (on Saturday, November 1); leftovers from dinners; uppuma; pancakes

Dinners:  Rice and beef curry with green beans, Stringhoppers and/or rice with fish curry and seeni sambol; Ham and split pea soup; breakfast for dinner (scrambled eggs, bacon, toast); Baked yams; parathas and curries; Leftovers/Planned-overs 

Snacks/Desserts:  Fruit; crackers; granola bars; cereal and milk; Hot Cheetos; bread pudding?  Peach cobbler

And here's how it worked out:

Monday:
Brunch:  Ham sandwich
Dinner:  Stringhoppers and fish curry, with seeni sambol
Snacks/Dessert: ??? Didn't keep track

Tuesday:
Brunch:  Leftover stringhoppers and fish curry (me); rice and beef curry with sauteed green beans (daughter)
Dinner:  Ham & split pea soup, scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast
Snacks/Dessert  Strawberries (daughter), tangerine (me)

Wednesday:
Brunch:  Cold cuts sandwich
Dinner:  Beef curry, microwave backed sweet potato, (me); rice and beef curry (daughter)
Snacks/Dessert: Cereal and milk, persimmons

Thursday:
Brunch:  Cold cuts sandwiches
Dinner:  Parathas with chicken curry and green beans
Snacks/Dessert:  Home canned peaches and custard (me); daughter doesn't like custard made with a powder

Friday:
Brunch:  Uppuma
Dinner:  Ham and split pea soup (me); rice, chicken curry, and green beans (daughter)
Snacks/Dessert:  Halloween candy shared by M

Saturday:
Brunch:  Milkrice, with fish curry/seeni sambol/lunu miris/jaggery
Dinner:  Ramen noodles, Japanese style pickled cucumber slices
Snacks/Dessert: Pomegranate from the garden; Peach cobbler with ice cream (daughter) or custard (me)

Sunday:
Brunch: Pancakes, sausages, syrup, orange juice
Dinner:  "Breakfast for dinner" - leftover pancakes and sausages (daughter), scrambled egg and baked sweet potato (me)
Snacks/Dessert:  Peach cobbler (daughter); I didn't have dessert, but, snacked on Sri Lankan murukku mix

I didn't necessarily keep to the meal plan options I had listed, but, I didn't go too far off the plan either, so, I am happy.

Which brings me to meal plan options for November Week 1 (11/3 to 11/9)

Brunches:  Cold cuts sandwiches; Bagels; doughnuts, leftovers

Dinners:  Hamburgers/fries/chicken nuggets (Monday); Parathas and spicy sauteed potatoes (Tuesday); Breakfast for dinner (Scrambled eggs, sausages, and hash browns);  Fried rice; Leftovers/Planned-overs 

Snacks/Desserts:  Fruit; crackers; granola bars; cereal and milk;  Peach cobbler

Or something else!

As always, I am grateful for having access to many different foods and for having sufficient to eat,

  1. Do you find that you are meal planning differently now that you have your daughter with you?

    1. That's a good question, June. I didn't think I was meal planning differently, but, maybe I do. She has told me that as long as I am cooking, she will eat what I make, but I do take her likes and dislikes into consideration. She's fine with eating leftovers, so I tend to cook larger quantities and keep in the fridge to warm up and eat during the week.

  2. I am eating lots of salad, soups and things that do not require a lot of preparation. Our days have been cool and extra nice, so I get outside. I hope the dentist did not hurt or bother and you are okay.

    1. Salads are good and this is the season for soup, isn't it? My dental procedures went well and I am feeling fine, now, thank you. :)

  3. You eat such a wonderful variety of food. You don't limit yourself so you can make the most of the tastes available to you. It shows an amazingly open mind.
    I had to google what stringhoppers were, though I'm sure that you've mentioned it. They look tasty.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. It's funny you say I eat a variety of food because my daughter will tell you that I am not at all adventurous when it comes to trying different cuisines. :D She is more open to trying things and I am more of a "I will stick to what I like" kind of person. I love stringhoppers, or indiappa as we call them. My daughter doesn't like them as much as I do. She prefers something we call pittu, but, I am rather indifferent to it. :D

  4. What's this? "Monday - Snacks/dessert ??? Didn't keep track"! Explain yourself! This could be 99 bags of chips and a whole carton of ice cream! The nutrition police are watching! 👀😀

  5. Everything sure sounds good to me. I'm a brunch and dinner person too. A nice little snack in between is plenty for me for the day.

    1. Thank you, Martha. My daughter says I should call it lunch instead of brunch, but, I rarely eat breakfast, so, I'm calling the first meal of the day brunch! :D I love to snack! I could make a whole meal out of snacks!

  7. Oooh, peach cobbler. Delicious!
    Back on plan here, and it's butternut squash curry tonight. In the end, I made soup with the remaining pumpkins. Xx

    What kind of custard? Like the Bird's custard in England?

    1. Yes, Debra. Just like Bird's custard. In fact, it was Bird's custard as I bought a container of it when I was at the Sri Lankan store. :)
      My daughter only likes the real custard, made with egg yolks added to the milk to thicken it. She doesn't like the custards I make with corn starch to thicken it (and that's what Bird's custard powder contains).
