On Tuesday

The Plumbago Shrub

The plumbago shrub is trying to take over the back garden!  I had asked M to trim it back at the end of last year and here's how it looked in January 2025, when it was starting to leaf out again:

Plumbago Shrub in January 2025

It has grown at least three feet forward since then.  There is a lantana plant buried somewhere in there, as well!  LOL.  I am sure we will be cutting it back again, this fall.

I finished cleaning my bedroom, on Tuesday.  I dusted and tidied the dressing table and the bookshelves and cleaned the window and the windowsill.  I would like to tidy the closet a bit, too, but, that's a task for another day.

I also brought in the emptied trash bins, took out the kitchen compost (didn't fall!), and did a small load of laundry.

I have to report for jury duty in person, tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon.  At least I won't have to wake up super early and fight the morning traffic.  But, I am not planning to do much either before or after jury duty.  Such things tire me out these days.

I had cereal and milk for brunch, snacked on the leftover spicy potatoes, and had ramen noodles for dinner.

Today, I am grateful for:
- What I was able to accomplish
- Weekly trash collections
- Working appliances
- Daughter has some helpful friends and co-workers helping her with the move
- An opportunity to do my civic duty.

Today's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.

How was your day?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

    1. Thank you, Angela. I was told this morning that I had fulfilled my jury duty and didn't need to report in person!

  2. We have several things that have enjoyed the summer weather and are taking over like your bush. We need to do some pruning even though it's not the usual season to do it to be able to see or get by things.
Good luck with your jury duty.

    1. It has been a relatively cool summer for us, so far, and things are growing well in the garden.
I was told this morning that I didn't have to report for jury duty in the afternoon, after all! I guess they had all the jurors they needed for the time being?

  3. That is a very determined Plumbago! Some plants can be quite aggressive. I hope your trip for jury duty goes well.

    1. Yes, that plumbago plant is doing very well! I no longer water it, but, I guess it gets enough water when I water the nearby plants.

    1. It's a very hardy, drought tolerant plant. They grow it along the freeway embankments because of it.

  5. Well done on performing your civic duty. It must be a great sense of satisfaction! I'm surprised how often you get called, even if you don't always end up going. Is this normal or has your name come up more than average? What is the upper age limit? Does it vary by state?

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella, although I didn't have to report in person, this time, after all. It seems to me that I get called for jury duty at least every two years. One is not supposed to be called more than once a year by one court system, but, we have different court systems - county, state, federal, etc. As far as I know, there is no upper age limit, but, once one is 70, in California, one could ask for a medical excuse without a doctor's note; a doctor's note is required if one is under 70.

    2. I know, it was just a little joke, because you said you had received a thank you note despite not having done anything. I guess I need to stop trying to make jokes.

Sounds as if it's quite usual to be called frequently then, if three or more institutions can call a person every year, and all operate independently. It must be a nightmare for employers, but then I suppose they expect it.

    3. I had wondered if you were being a bit "tongue-in-cheek", but, decided to take the comment at face value, since I wasn't sure. Sorry! But, yes, they did thank me for my service in the messages they sent, as well as the email! Just calling and being available was sufficient, this time around. Some people get called more often than others, I think, because they haven't asked to be excused from jury duty due to various hardships including financial (some employers don't pay your salary while on jury duty or they pay for only a limited number of days or you might be self-employed and the $15/day or whatever they pay you for jury duty doesn't do much) or you are a fulltime caregiver to a family member or for medical reasons.

I usually enjoy jury duty, but, I wasn't looking forward to it, this time. So, I was very relieved that I was told I didn't have to go in person and was thanked for my service. :)

    4. I could say how hurt/offended I am that you thought I'd just skimmed your posts, then tried to earn brownie points by leaving a comment anyway. But I had better not do that as you can't see the expression on my face, so I will say instead, quite earnestly, that the details about how it all works over there are quite interesting, and a little different from over here.

    5. I appreciate you being earnest, Ella. :D I do love your sense of humor, but, it's hard for me to say if you are being serious or not from a written comment, so, I tend to err on the side of caution. :)

  6. I am glad you got your room finished and also glad your jury service was not required this go-round.
I'm sure you felt like you had a day off when you were advised you were all through.
    That Plumbago shrub is huge!
