House Finch? Peach Thief! |
I had been thinking that the Mockingbirds had been pecking and eating my peaches, but, on Wednesday, I discovered that a pair of House Finches (I think) were the culprits! I caught them happily feasting on the peaches! They peck the fruit to see if it is ripe, and if not as ripe as they like, then, they keep checking them until they find one that is to their liking! There are several partially eaten peaches on the tree! I think I will have to pick the majority of them this weekend and make peach jam or something!I woke up early (for me) on Wednesday, just in case the painters showed up, but, they didn't. I had a productive morning, vacuuming the dining area, kitchen, and family room. Then, I went for my scan appointment. It's the first time I've been to this particular clinic and the driving direction said to turn left onto a certain street to access the parking lot, but, that street was closed due to road construction! However, I was able to turn around and find an alley to get to the clinic.
The scan procedure went well after an initial hiccup (I hadn't followed the pre-scan instructions to the letter, I guess, although I thought that I had!). As a result, I had to wait a bit longer while the staff at the clinic bent over backwards to accommodate me and they were so nice about it, too. Otherwise I would have had to reschedule my appointment, and I was hoping I wouldn't have to. I had to wait a little over an hour, but, in the end, they fitted me into their schedule and I had the scan.
Afterwards, I went home, ate something, and then, it was time for M to tend to the garden. He was running behind schedule, himself, but, he watered the garden and we planted some lemongrass stems that I had rooted.
Then, it was time to order some groceries and pick them up.
When I returned from the grocery pick up, I saw neighbor E and spoke with him. He said the painters will be arriving on Thursday. Apparently, I misheard him, because he pronounced the "u" in Thursday the way one would pronounce the "u" in Tuesday. So, I guess he said Thursday and I heard it as Tuesday? In any case, I'm glad that I emptied out the shelves, etc. in anticipation of painters arriving on Tuesday, because if I had thought they were coming on Thursday and waited to empty the shelves on Wednesday, I would not have had the time or the energy to do so.
Later, I vacuumed my bedroom and my daughter's bedroom and the hallway and remade daughter's bed with fresh sheets.
Afterwards, I cooked dinner and picked up daughter from the airport. We enjoyed the dinner I had prepared (sauteed salmon, boxed wild rice mix, and cucumber salad) with fresh peaches for dessert.
On Wednesday, I was grateful for:
- Access to medical care
- Really nice staff at the radiology center
- Health insurance to cover such diagnostic procedures
- M's help with the garden
- Daughter had a safe flight down
My joyful activity on Wednesday was seeing daughter, again.
How was your Wednesday?
How lovely to see your daughter again! And I'm glad you got the scan in the end [and sorted the mixup with the painter!]
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. Yes, it's lovely to see my daughter, again. :)
DeleteI hope your scans are read soon and that all is well. I am glad they were able to work them in. Had to giggle that Thursday sounded like Tuesday...at least to you. Glad your daughter is home for a bit. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diana. Yes, the staff at the clinic were so very nice and accommodating. It's lovely to have my daughter home for a visit; she's planning to come down to stay with me later this summer and we are both looking forward to that. :)
DeleteYou had a busy day! I'm glad the scan worked out. I know how you have been anticipating this and it would have been hard to come back another day. House finches are the most common birds at our feeders. I know they like seeds, but didn't know about fruit. But what wouldn't like a fresh peach?
ReplyDeleteIt was a rather busy day for me, but, everything worked out well. This year, the birds are very happy with the fruit growing in my garden! They've been flocking around the blueberry bushes, too. :)
DeleteI love your finch photo, dear friend. So nice that you got to see your daughter as well! I love the list of things you are grateful for.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. That bird is almost the same color as the peaches, isn't he? I'm loving the fact that my daughter is home for the weekend. We've a couple of things planned for the weekend and then, she'll return to her apartment. But, she'll be back for another visit, shortly. :)
DeleteI am sitting at the table in the bay window looking at brown threshers pecking away at the apples on the tree. Its a good thing the squirrels who rob my tree don't mind eating after the birds have had a nibble or two.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear! Your apples and my peaches! I don't seem to have that many squirrels around, so the half eaten peaches drop on the ground and the insects eat them! Or, I toss them in the compost heap.
DeleteThose birds are so entitled, thinking they gave the right to try every peach! I hope you manage to save most of the peaches for jam, and that you can get some untested ones to eat fresh!
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to feel entitled to the peaches, Bushlady. I am planning to pick most of the rest of the fruit this weekend.
DeleteYay! I'm so pleased your scan went ok, and that you have your daughter home again!
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't blame the House Finches - peaches are delicious :)
Thank you, Jules. The House Finches know a good thing when they see it! M picked a few more of the peaches that are in the upper branches, which I can't quite reach, when he was here on Friday. They seem to ripen before the ones on the lower branches, which I can reach.
DeleteSo glad your daughter arrived safely. I hope you enjoy your time with her.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. We've enjoyed our extended weekend together. She will work from home tomorrow and then, fly back out in the evening.
DeleteIts so nice the staff at the clinic was able to figure out a way to still scan you and you didn't have to go back.
ReplyDeleteDid they have a free parking lot for the facility?
And your daughter is home again for a visit. I know that makes you happy.
Is it a long way to the airport for you? Do you wait in the cell phone lot? I find that set up so convenient.
It was very nice of the clinic staff to do what they could to fit me in, later that afternoon. They did have free parking, but, when I first went, their parking lot was full and I paid to park at the parking lot for an adjoining restaurant. Then, almost as soon as I had parked the car, I saw someone leaving the clinic parking lot, so, I was able to park there, instead. I still had to pay the minimum ($2) at the restaurant parking lot, though!
DeleteI've enjoyed having daughter home for the weekend. No, the airport she flies in and out of isn't that far from where I live and I try to time things so that I am there a few minutes after she comes out to the passenger pick up area. If I am there before she is outside, I drive around the airport once or twice. :)
