Garden Bounty

Like a Queen on her Throne

Mama Cat used to be the Queen of the Garden, but, I think we might have a new Queen of the Garden!

Guess what I found on Sunday morning?

A New Egg!

There was a new egg in the nest, when I checked!  So, as one of you commented on a previous post, "Finders keepers"!  I claimed this egg, too, and decided that I will have eggs for brunch!  I was a bit nervous cracking them open, but, they looked like perfect eggs.  Look at the color of those yolks!

Two Perfect Eggs

It didn't take long to make myself some brunch:

Sunday Brunch

Scrambled eggs, bacon, and diced potatoes, with just a little bell pepper added to the potatoes for flavor.  Everything tasted delicious.

In addition to the egg, I also picked the first okra on Sunday:

The First Okra

My okra plants look stunted, the tallest plant is barely two feet tall, but, they are producing okra; I hope this is the first of many!  I considered adding it to my brunch, but, decided not to.

I also picked three or four plums, but, didn't take a picture of them.

Sliced Tie Dye Tomato

Finally, I sliced the Berkeley Tie Dye tomatoes I picked the other day.  This is not a very good picture, taken in artificial light, but, the tomato was more pink inside than red and the seeds had a greenish tinge.  I tasted a piece and it had a very pronounced tomato taste.  I suppose some people would say it was very flavorful, but, since I don't care for the taste of raw tomatoes, it was too strong a flavor for me.  However, I think they will be excellent when cooked.  I froze these tomato slices to be added to my cooking, later.  But, next year, I shall go back to planting Early Girl and/or Roma tomatoes!

Now I have to figure out what to do with my single okra (the others are not yet ready to be picked).

I am grateful for my garden bounty, for Chicken Little blessing me with some free eggs. and for the garden fruits and vegetables.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. Those are lovely yellow yolks and definitely what free range eggs should look like. Chicken Little is rather pleased with herself and deserves to be on the throne. You could make an egg and tomato omelette next :)

    1. The eggs do look like what free range eggs should look like, don't they? Chicken Little made a little, "I'm pleased with myself" clucking when I went outside, this morning, and yes, there was a new egg in the nest! Yes, maybe an egg and tomato omelet next! :D

  2. Your garden is gifting you on so many levels :) Chicken Little seems to find your garden much more of a home to her. Nice that you tried the Tie Dye variety of tomatoes, now you know, they are not your favourite. I like Best Boy, if I was growing tomatoes.

    1. I am so happy to have my garden! It has been such a blessing! Chicken Little only goes to her rightful home to sleep at night, I think! I have not tried to grow Best Boy - might try that, next time. :)
Thank you for continuing to read my blog and comment, Mary-Lou. I hope you are having a lovely summer.

  3. All you need is a cow to wander into your backyard and you won't have to do any more grocery pickups. :)

    1. LOL! You are right, June! Although, I don't know the first thing about milking a cow! On the other hand, with a cow in the garden, I won't have to buy anymore steer manure for fertilizer! :D

  4. I wouldn't know what to do with several okra, never mind a single one! They have so far stayed out of my culinary experience. I think they do sell them in our supermarket.

    1. I make an okra "thel dala", which is a saute with curry powder, etc. I spotted another okra on another plant that looks like it might be ready to be picked, later in the day or tomorrow, then, I'll have two okras to saute!

  5. Wonderful eggs and produce! That hen gave you several gifts. I used to make a big deal with my chickens when they laid an egg. I would thank them and let them know I appreciated it. They understood. So glad you are enjoying them. It's good you got them out of the heat.

    1. Anne, I thought of you when I sliced the tomatoes, because I know you like tomatoes and I thought to myself, "Anne might like this!"
Yes, Chicken Little had left another gift for me, this morning, when I checked. Thank you, Chicken Little!

  7. The eggs and the tomatoes look wonderful! Hooray for Chicken Little! I love fresh tomatoes, but my attempts to grow them in pots have failed. So I rely on the local farmers market now. I drove home today, so I'm tired. I had a very nice visit with my sister.

    1. Yes, Chicken Little is doing us proud! :D Tomatoes need a lot of water, I think, so pots might dry out too quickly. But, it's good that you can get your tomatoes from the farmers' market. Welcome back from your visit with your sister. Glad you had a good visit with her and a safe drive home. Hopefully, you can have relaxed day, tomorrow and rest. :)

  8. I tried to think what to do with a single okra and couldn't come up with anything. :)
Maybe you can add it to a mixed veggie stir fry?

    1. At first, I thought of slicing it and adding to an omelet, but, today, I picked three more okra, so, I will make a very small okra curry/thel dala with onions and tomatoes. :)

  11. Yes, Chicken Little looks a bit regal and quite pleased with the world doesn't he.
What a feast your brunch is with the eggs and those little fried potatoes.
Your garden is producing nicely for you this year even with the problems you've had with the high heat.

    1. She is definitely the queen of the garden, these days!
Brunch with home "grown" eggs was quite a treat! I'm pleased with the garden, this year; I shouldn't complain about the heat - we haven't gone above 100F, yet!
