The Star Jasmine is Flowering |
The star jasmine vine, growing up on the home grown and home made pole trellis, is flowering.

I had planned to take the laptop in to the shop, today, but, I was pleasantly surprised, late yesterday evening, to find that the whirring fan noise had disappeared! It has been working just fine, today, too, so, it seems that the threat of taking it to the store for a check up worked! LOL. I will see how it goes over the weekend and take it in if the noise returns.
Yesterday, after I did my blog post, I took over some cake to my neighbor S; she said to bring her a small piece just to taste, but, I took her enough to share with her husband and daughters. Later, I cooked a chicken curry with one of the packets of chicken thighs I had bought, earlier in the week. There were eight thighs in that packet and I froze six of them, two to a package, for future meals and kept two in the fridge. Today, I sliced one of them and had chicken curry sandwiches for brunch. I still need to cook the other package of chicken thighs - I might saute them for a change from the chicken curry or make more curry (I am more likely to eat the curry than sauteed chicken).
I changed my bed sheets, today, and did two loads of laundry.
With this year's blueberries ripening, I decided to use some of the frozen blueberries from last year to make a blueberry compote to go with the cake I baked:
Blueberry Compote |
I used about two cups of blueberries, 1/4 cup sugar, the juice of half a lemon, and a small piece of cinnamon stick and cooked it for about 10 minutes (the only thing I measured was the sugar). The resulting compote is both sweet and tangy. I served a piece of cake with some of the compote poured over it to M and he thought it went well with the cake.
Brunch had been chicken curry sandwiches; dinner will be reheated fried fish, a baked potato, and salad. There might be cake and compote for dessert.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Another sunny, warm day
- Working appliances
- M's help with the garden
- The laptop seems to be working well
- Blueberries from the garden
Today's joyful activity has been being online without worrying about the computer breaking down!

How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend?
I will keep my fingers crossed that you don't have any more unusual sound from your lap top.
ReplyDeleteThe compote sounds delicious. I don't have any of mine now, but I'll be making some more, towards the end of summer. I like to eat mine with porridge, during the winter months. Xx
Thank you, Jules; the laptop has been behaving well, all day! :)
DeleteThe compote turned out really well. When you make yours, do you can them for winter use?
Fingers crossed your laptop behaves now or it will be going on a journey to the repair shop! Your blueberry compote looks nice, a good idea to use with the cake you made.
ReplyDeleteIt's been working really well, today, Eileen. It doesn't want to go to the repair shop! LOL.
DeleteI'm very pleased with how the blueberry compote turned out. M has asked me if I've ever made blueberry pie, so that might be on the agenda, next!
Friday was bright and sunny and happy. Hoping for a similar Saturday 🌞😎😊
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lovely day on Friday! Hope Saturday will be the same!
DeleteWe had star jasmine when we lived in Houston, but it's too cold for it to thrive here. Your cake sounds delicious. I made a spice cake for my husbands birthday and I hope it is gone soon because I have been eating too much of it. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the star jasmine needs a warm climate to grow year round. The cake turned out well - M could taste the lemon I added to it, but, I can't! Yum, spice cake sounds delicious, too! It's hard to resist a piece of cake, isn't it? :)
DeleteThe star jasmine is so pretty and I'm sure it must smell wonderful, too. I like your recipe for blueberry compote, the lemon juice and cinnamon stick must really make it taste delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. The star jasmine has a very light fragrance, but, I can't really detect it. The blueberry compote turned out well; you could use maple syrup, too, instead of the sugar and use vanilla instead of the cinnamon. But, I grew up adding cinnamon to stewed fruit, so, that's what I did with the compote. :)
DeleteThat compote looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me. I have some chicken pieces in the freezer that are unlikely to be used for a while, so I think that I'll have to use them up. I've kept them for family meals, but DH has been dealing with that.
Thank you, Lyssa.
DeleteI like to cook once and eat for several days, so batch cooking works for me. :)
So glad to hear that the laptop fixed itself. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it was just having a couple of off days lol
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Unfortunately, it has been having issues, again, today, kicking me off the internet every few minutes! I have to keep restarting the computer!
DeleteYour jasmine vine is looking beautiful. That's on the trellis you and M just made? It really covered it quickly.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure neighbor S enjoyed the cake you shared with her and her family.
The compote was a good idea for the blueberries in the freezer as it seems like you are on your way to a good blueberry harvest this year if that picture is any indication.
Thankk you, Debra; yes, that's the trellis M and I made recently. :)
DeleteThe blueberries are starting to come in! I picked some yesterday, too and will be sharing them with neighbor S (who is bringing me some stuffed chicken, she said!)
