Sunny Saturday

The Front Garden on a Sunny Saturday Afternoon

Looking down the front garden from the driveway; the pink flowers in the foreground are the geranium plants that M planted in the ground (they had been growing in pots near the front door).

The phone is still not working, although I tried to reset it a couple of times, today.  I must say, however, that it is nice and quiet without all the telemarketers and spam calls!  I called  my aunt to let her know that the home phone was still out and to call me on the cell phone when she wants to call me.  I also called my former neighbor T to let her know, too; she usually calls me on the weekend and does so on my home phone.  Then, I called T's daughter K to give her my cell phone number to call.  I suppose, if the new SIM card doesn't work (once I go and get a new one), I could call everyone and tell them to call me on my cell phone, instead.

It was a lovely, sunny day, and I walked for a short period of time, up and down my driveway and sidewalk, chatted briefly with one of my neighbors, and admired the flowers!

Later, I watched some videos online, chatted with my daughter who had gone grocery shopping in the afternoon (she said that there was a small earthquake in her area, this morning), ran the dishwasher, and handwashed another wool sweater I had knitted.  I had leftovers (the last meat pastry) for brunch and for dinner (leftover rice, leftover shrimp curry, leftover eggplant).  Then, I made some chocolate pudding for dessert, to use up the last of the milk before it went sour.  All in all, a nice, relaxed day!

On Saturday, I was grateful for:

- The earthquake in daughter's area was small, there was no damage, and daughter is safe
- The sunny day
- Garden flowers
- Chatting on the cell phone with family and friends
- Cell phone and internet services!

Saturday's joyful activity was walking out in the garden, enjoying the sunshine, fresh air, bird song, and the flowers blooming in the front garden.

I don't have any special plans for Sunday.  I hope to have another relaxed day.

How was your Saturday?  Any special plans for Sunday?

  2. The pink geraniums stand out nicely amid all the gorgeous flowers. Your front garden is lovely. There is so much blooming here. The backyard is covered in little yellow flowers which we’ve always called buttercups (although I don’t they really are). The flowers have attracted so many bees. My husband doesn’t want to mow while all the wonderful bee activity is going on, so he just mowed the front lawn yesterday.
I hope the earthquake didn’t startle your daughter. During our small earthquake, I thought the noise was more frightening than the shaking.
You always find just the right spot for your plants. I hope you can keep expanding for both beauty and bounty. Is your new(ish) neighbor a gardener too?

    1. Thank you, Taconix. The plentiful rain we've had recently has been marvelous for the garden! I'm sure your backyard looks great with the yellow flowers and it's good that your husband doesn't want to mow if while the bees are enjoying the flowers. We need to keep our bee populations going!
I think the earthquake did startle my daughter a bit. Berkeley sits right on top of the Hayward earthquake fault line and a small earthquake has the potential of being a prequake for a bigger one.
When it comes to plants, I'm all for cramming things together and hoping for the best; M is more concerned about proper spacing, and so forth. :) The new neighbor does have a lot of plants, which is nice to see. Much of it are in containers, but, he is putting a few plants in the ground. It's interesting to see his garden taking shape.

  3. Your front garden looks amazing so lovely and colourful. I was trying to get without my landline last year to save money but encountered problems with the internet being linked winch I didn't know about.. I planned to just use my mobile and let everyone that matters know my mobile phone number. I get tired of spam nuisance calls on the landline too. I hope it's just a new SIM card you need to fix your problem. I'm glad your daughter is safe after the earthquake.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; yes, my daughter is safe after the quake and the garden is at its peak, right now, I think, with all the osteospermum flowering.
I am seriously considering getting a cellphone with my landline number if a new SIM card doesn't work!

  4. Your front garden is lovely bursting with color! I hope you can get your phone sorted out without too much more trouble! I am at my sister's in Indiana, drove here yesterday, to see the eclipse. She's just in the full zone. On the way here on the interstate I witnessed a very bad accident happen, right in front of me, caused by a speeding driver cutting another car off. I was far enough back that I had time to slow and pull off. Amazingly no one was seriously injured of the three cars involved (all cars totaled). But it has shaken me and I'm dreading the drive home now! People drive crazy!

    1. I'm glad you weren't involved in the accident, Celie. Glad that no one was seriously injured, but, yes, something like that can really shake us up! I hope you have a lovely visit with your sister and enjoy watching the eclipse. Hopefully, you will have a safe drive home.

  5. Your neighbours must enjoy walking past your front garden with all the lovely flowers! I like the contrast of the bright geraniums against the other flowers. What a good idea to make sure your friends and family know to phone your cellphone number, so that you won't miss calls or arouse alarm about your whereabouts!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I have seen a few cars slow down as they drive past as their drivers admire the flowers and one time, when I was out in the garden, one of the drivers called out that the garden looked great! :)
