The End of the Week

Thai Food for Lunch (and leftovers for dinner)

On Friday, we ordered some take out from one of our favorite neighborhood Thai food places.  One really couldn't call it a restaurant.  It is a kitchen with a roofed patio area with some tables and chairs, but, it produces some of the best Thai food in town!  I've been getting food from this place for over 31 years and, while the prices have gone up, the food tastes as good as ever!  From left to right: beef fried rice (we requested they left out the tomatoes), chicken laab (spicy), beef salad (also spicy).  We enjoyed it for lunch and had leftovers for dinner and there are more leftovers for Saturday, as well.

You could say that we were celebrating the fact that daughter has extended her stay for another week, until Easter Sunday.  She will fly back on the Monday after that.  We are both very thankful that she is able to stay another week.

M was here in the evening and he had bought several bags of fertilizer for the fruit trees for me.  He applied the fertilizer to all the fruit trees and watered it in.  We are supposed to have rain over the weekend, but, as M said, putting water today will ensure that there will be rain over the weekend!  LOL.  I'm hoping that it will rain because the garden could do with another good soaking.

On Thursday, I kept my appointment with the tax preparer and filed my taxes.  I had to pay additional taxes which is never fun, but, I'm thankful that I had funds set aside for that (and the preparer's fees).  I'm glad that task is crossed off my to do list!

Daughter and I had chicken curry sandwiches (made with the dinner rolls I got from the grocery store) for brunch.  For dinner, we had beef curry (from the freezer) with rice and cucumber salad.

Birthday Card

I needed to make a quick birthday card, today.  The pattered paper is actually a piece of recycled packaging material that was at the bottom of a package of tea candles!  I had saved it to use for card making because I liked the pattern!

I am grateful for:
- My leg is continuing to heal
- Getting my taxes done and filed
- My daughter is able to extend her stay for another week
- M's help with the garden
- Card making supplies

Joyful activities have included crocheting, making a card, tending to the garden, and spending time with my daughter.

We are not making any special plans for the weekend.  I'll probably do some laundry and maybe do some baking.  There is some sewing I wanted to do for my daughter, which I couldn't do earlier due to needing to rest my leg; maybe I can do that this weekend.

How was your Friday and the end of the work week?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. How wonderful that your daughter gets to stay another week! No wonder your fruit trees do so well - they get fertilized! Most of our fruit trees are old and too big to fertilize easily, but maybe we should look into doing that for our little apple tree.

  3. How wonderful your daughter can stay with you for another week and good to know your leg is healing nicely.. Your Thai food looks very tasty indeed. The birthday card you made is lovely, you wouldn't know it was lade from recycled paper. I am feeling better apart from earache but I ordered some ear drops online and they arrived today and the first dose has given me a little relief and at least my cough has gone now.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; yes, it's lovely to have daughter home for another week. I felt that we couldn't do much during the first and even the second week because my leg was painful. Maybe we can do a few fun things this week, after she is done with work for the day.
Thank you for saying that the card I made is lovely. I'm happy that I was able to reuse that piece of pretty packaging!
I'm glad you are feeling better and hopefully, the earache will go away after another dose or two of the drops.

  4. What great news that your daughter is staying through the next week!
Good to hear that your leg continues to improve.
I looked at your back garden pictures again. It’s all so lush and vibrant. The work continues for you and your gardener with fertilizing and all the spring tasks. It keeps you busy!
Your Thai food looks so good and it’s great how it stretches into several meals.
Friday was a busy day here. I worked from home, mostly paperwork, emails, and phone calls. I had planned to roast a turkey earlier in the week, but it wasn’t yet defrosted. By yesterday it was thawed. I cooked the turkey and then broth so I could get the bones and detritus out with Friday night’s trash even though we wouldn’t be eating it that day (due to Lent). Then I cracked the glass carafe for the coffeemaker when I washed it. I remembered that my husband had brought home a coffeemaker he no longer used at work and I had put it in the basement. It wasn’t where I thought I had stored it, but I found mildewed rags in that space. They must have gotten wet when we had storm flooding a year (2 years?) ago. So out went the rags and I cleaned the cabinet. Eventually, I located the coffee machine, cleaned it and set it up in the kitchen. My whole Friday went by in the blink of an eye.
Today we have had rain all day which is predicted to continue until the middle of the night. Luckily, we have no commitments for the day. I hope you’re enjoying a relaxing day with your daughter. ☺️

Yes, I think the leg is improving, although I bought more of the medicated cream I'm applying to it, today.
The gardening is ongoing! Today, I bought some flowering bulbs to plant! M will plant them for me on Wednesday.
Sounds like you had a busy day on Friday! First all the work you had to do and then, roasting the turkey and making the broth. Then, the unplanned cleaning in the basement when you were looking for the spare coffeemaker! Some days, that's just how things go, isn't it?
We had some rain, too, but it rained only in the morning. It was clear in the afternoon and we did some shopping! :D
I hope you have a lovely day, tomorrow.

I'm glad you like the card! I looked at some cards online to get ideas and then, made something entirely different! LOL. But, I like how it turned out. :)

  7. How wonderful that your daughter is able to stay even longer. It must be lovely for you both to spend this time together.
Yesterday, I was kept busy with housework, and I baked some cookies - Lily's favourite. This morning, the weather looks sunny and dry, so I'm going out for a run. X

  9. Well, that Thai food looks delicious! What a feast. And I enjoyed the back story of the restaurant. Or "restaurant" as you put it. lol
How interesting that you've been going there over 30 years and still getting the same tasting, delicious food. That sort of continuity isn't commonplace anymore.
I'm glad your daughter has been able to extend her stay.
