Wednesday

Passionfruit and Flowers

There are flowers on the passionfruit vine and fruit starting to form!  I'm looking forward to picking the fruit, once they are ripe.

It was a cooler day, today, with a daytime high only in the mid-70s.  But, it was sunny and quite comfortable.

The morning got off to a bit of a wobbly start because Dancer came into my room very early in the morning and threw up right next to my bed.  I registered the fact, but, went back to sleep, thinking I'll clean it up later.  Except, when I eventually woke up, I discovered that one of my pillows had fallen down from the bed, and guess where it had landed?  Yes, right on top of the yucky stuff!  Eww!

Fortunately, I use two pillowcases on my pillows and nothing had got onto the pillow, itself.  Even so, I washed and dried the pillow, just to be on the safe side.  I dried it in the dryer, first, then, aired it a bit, and kept it in the sunshine streaming in from the front window in the afternoon to sun it a bit.

At first, I was tempted to toss the two pillowcases.  But, I washed them with bleach, and plan to wash them a second time..  I think they will be OK to use after being washed twice.

Dancer has been fine all day, though, eating as usual.  I did give him his flea prevention medication today and he was not very happy about that!

The rest of the day went smoothly.  I brought in the trash cans, dusted the main rooms, cleaned the bathroom, swept the kitchen, and picked two ripe tomatoes and a small handful of blueberries.  Gardener M was here today and we repotted Lois Lane Kent Mango, the only surviving mango plant!  I think I'll have to buy some more mangos this summer and try again!  Later, I cut some branches from the pomegranate tree and arranged them in a "vase" (the ice bucket I decided not to declutter some time ago) to keep on the mantelpiece in the living room:

Pomegranate Branches

I made egg salad sandwiches for brunch, today, and dinner was leftover rice and curries.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Dancer seems to be fine after the morning's incident
- M's help in the garden
- Working appliances
- Garden produce
- Pleasant weather

Today's joyful activity was picking tomatoes and blueberries from the garden.

Plans for tomorrow include:
- Vacuuming
- Mopping the kitchen floor
- Calling the pharmacy to ask about Dancer's medication and when it might be available
- Paperwork
- Baking some blueberry muffins (M has been asking if I've made anything with the blueberries, yet!)

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. Oh Dancer! I'm glad he seems OK though. I'm sure your pillowcases will be fine once they've had a good wash. I use pillow protectors underneath the pillowcase and the protectors don't always need washing.
I'm thinking M is dropping a big hint there :-)

    1. Yes, Dancer is fine, today. He says that the pillow incident is all my fault for not getting up and cleaning up his mess as soon as it happened! :D
I should look into getting pillow protectors.
Ha, ha, that's what I thought, too, that M was dropping a big hint! :D

  2. I think dropping a pillow onto Dancer's throw up is better than stepping in it in your bare feet. Been there and done that and its not fun. :)

    1. Ha, ha, I know just how that feels, June! I've done it, too! :D

  3. Dancer wanted to make sure you knew where he had thrown up. Too bad about the pillow! I hope you get some passionfruit from your vine. The only vine I have is a volunteer in the front garden by the porch and it is a wild clematis called Virgin's Bower. I've always been fond of this plant so I was happy when one turned up a year or two ago and I installed a bit of trellis for it to climb on. It is really strong this year.

    1. Yes, he wanted to make sure that I knew all about it! I'm glad that the pillow could be washed. I've washed the outer cover of the pillow, before, but, not the entire pillow.
      I'm looking forward to passionfruit!
I looked up Virgin's Bower and it looks like a lovely, flowering vine! It has interesting seed heads, too!

  4. Hi Bless! 👋🏻 I once had a devil cat who, out of spite and hatred, did ALL her business on my bed! Another time, she decided to rip my arm with teeth and claws because I laughed on a phone call with my sister! She was awful and the only cat I’ve ever been afraid of. She was a rescue whose people were going dump her, but to her, I was the one who took her from her people. She was diagnosed with cancer six years ago and I made the decision to put her down. I cried buckets. The Passion flower is beautiful—does it have a nice fragrance? 👋🏻 Judy

    1. Hi Judy. Oh, no! That does sound like one mean cat! I'm sorry she had cancer, though, and you had to put her down. Dancer attacks my arms and legs from time to time. His pupils become large until his eyes are all black and he lunges at me! He tried to bite me this morning, too!
I can't smell any scent on the passionflower, but, then, again, I can't smell a lot of things! Yesterday, my gardener M brought me a variety of gardenias to show the big seed pods it forms and asked me if I liked the scent of the flower - I could only detect a very faint scent and he said he found it quite strongly scented. But, I like the taste of passionfruit and the flowers are pretty to look at, too (they only bloom for a day).

  6. I'm glad Dancer's feeling better. Cats always find the "best" place to yuk up! I had a cat once who'd sometimes do it in a shoe. Argh! I hope Lois Lane Mango does well in her new pot! I drove today to my eldest sister's to visit for a week. It's an 8 hour drive so I don't do it very often. But I do miss seeing her. Enjoy your muffins and sharing them with M is kind of you!

  7. I would have washed things twice also, but I am sure they probably were fine after 1 washing with bleach
    Poor Dancer!

    1. Hi Anne, I washed the pillow once and I think it was OK. But, the pillowcases will get a second wash before I use them. Dancer is OK, now, but, being very vocal this evening.

    1. Thank you, Mandy. Most of the flowers in the garden have finished flowering, so, I'm arranging foliage, instead. :)

  9. Your passionflower is beautiful. Sadly, despite me wrapping it up mine did not survive the winter. I will maybe try again next year.

  11. Well that was not a good start. I think your efforts with the pillow and cases are sufficient and they will be fine to keep using.
Poor Dancer. He's been having some problems hasn't he. But it sounds like he was fine the rest of the day so that's good.

    1. Yes, it was a less than auspicious start to the day, wasn't it? It's the pillow I use to elevate the leg that had the sciatica issues a couple of summers ago - I had read that one of the ways to relieve sciatica was to sleep on your side, leg bent, with a pillow under the knee. I don't have that same sciatica pain, now, but, I got used to having a pillow under my knee. :)

Yes, Dancer seems to have recovered from that little episode, thank goodness!
