Still Sunny

Persimmon Tree is Leafing Out

Monday was a lovely, sunny and warm (highs in the upper 60Fs) day.  I had my appointment with the tax preparer at 1:00 p.m. and it went very well.  I am glad that the taxes were done and filed in good time.  I took some of the banana muffins I had baked and gave them to the tax preparer; she was very happy to receive them.  She called me, today, and thanked me, again, for the muffins, saying she shared them with her husband.

I noticed a bit of a pain at the back of my right leg when I drove to the tax preparer's office and it persisted for a good portion of the afternoon.  Ever since I had my sciatica pains, summer before last, I get worried when I have any leg pains!  I think I was dehydrated and maybe low on potassium, as well (my blood tests have indicated that I have low potassium levels).  I made it a point to drink some water and kept a heating pad on my leg and the pain went away.  Then, I watered the newly planted loquat seedlings, picked more snow peas, cleaned the litter box, took the trash can to the end of the drive way, and cooked dinner.  By then, the leg pain was back!  I drank more water, ate dinner, ate some raisins, and had some cereal with milk before I went to bed.  Both raisins and milk are high in potassium.  Brunch had been sauteed garbanzo beans and a banana muffin; dinner had been rice and smoked sausage stir-fry.

Neighbor T called in the afternoon and I chatted with her for a bit and, later, I called friend R to check on her.

I have not had any leg pains, today, and I am trying to drink plenty of water!

Today was another sunny and warm day.  I brought the trash cans in, picked more snow peas (I am able to pick about 6 or 7 snow pea pods almost daily), brought in the mail, and checked the grocery ads (not planning to buy groceries this week, either, because I spent all my March grocery budget, but, I like to see what the deals are).  In the afternoon, I watched some online videos and continued to repair the quilt.  Later, I watched some news and a couple of TV programs.

Brunch had been the last banana muffin.  Dinner was a three course meal!  A garden salad with lettuce from the garden, followed by sausage stir-fry over rice, and canned pineapple chunks for dessert!

Friend R called me in the evening to see how I was doing and I video chatted with my daughter.

Today was the anniversary of my father's birthday.  I debated making a cake in his memory, but, I didn't.  Instead, I remembered him with a prayer.

My Father and I

I am grateful for:
- Sunny days
- The taxes were completed and filed
- Garden produce
- Memories and old photographs
- The leg pain seems to have subsided

Joyful activities have included chatting with family and friends, picking and eating garden produce, and being able to share some of the banana muffins.

We have rain in the forecast for later tonight/early tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening.  If the rain ceases later in the morning, M will be able to tend to the garden.  We will have to wait and see.  Plans for tomorrow include tending to the garden with M (weather permitting), doing a bit of tidying, and housework.

How is your week coming along?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

  1. A lovely picture of you with your Dad. I hope your leg pains do not come back. I get cramp in my thigh occasionally and it is very painful. It's rained a lot this week, but the radishes are growing in the raised bed, and I have some beans coming up inside on the windowsill

    1. Thank you, Angela. It's one of the very few I have of us, together.
Those leg cramps can be very painful; magnesium is supposed to help with leg cramps and I take a magnesium supplement, daily, per doctor's orders.
Sounds like your garden is coming along, nicely! I must ask M to buy me some bean seeds to plant.

  2. I hope your leg pain has gone for good and drinking plenty of water is always good. How nice for your tax person to call and thank you for the banana muffins and to know she and her husband enjoyed them. That's a lovely photo of you with your father and very fond memories of him for you. We are having very changeable weather here, Monday we had blue sky and sunshine and we sat out in the garden with our cups of coffee then yesterday it rained hard for most of the day.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. The leg pain has subsided (for now, at least). I must remember to keep drinking plenty of water and stay hydrated! Wasn't it nice of the tax accountant to call and thank me for the muffins? I've known her for several years, now and she's become a friend as well as my tax preparer. :)
I don't have many photos taken of me with my father; the one I posted is one of my favorites. He died when I was 7 and it will be 60 years in July.
I am glad you were able to enjoy sitting out in the garden on Monday; hopefully, there will be more sunny days to spend out in the garden as we move into spring and summer. It rained here, last night and this morning, but, it is sunny, right now. However, there are banks of clouds gathering and more rain is in the forecast for tonight.

  3. Such a lovely photo of you & your Dad. What a lovely way to remember him with prayers. How encouraging are those little leaves on your persimmon tree.

Mr Man has to eat a banana a day to keep up his potassium levels because of a medication that depletes potassium & he's bored with that daily banana, so I have been doing some alternative high potassium foods, which also have to be those that don't spike his glucose levels. The latest round of sweet potatoes has him happy again (col) & of course broccoli is on the menu a lot. :)

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. There aren't a lot of photos of us together because he was usually the person behind the camera; I think my mother took this photo.
I was very happy to see the persimmon tree leafing out. I was worried that it might not survive the winter. Now, if it produces some persimmons this year, that would be lovely! It had one persimmon, last year!
My doctor has recommended I take a daily potassium supplement; I've been trying not to add yet another pill to swallow, but, I think I might have to go that route.

  4. I'm glad the tax appointment went well. I hope you don't get any more leg pain. What a sweet photo of you with your father.
Yesterday I visited my friend and took her some of the squares I made on Monday. Her dog knew I was coming, before I reached the door!
We are due for rain and snow this afternoon and it doesn't seem that we can escape the system like we often do.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; it's one of my favorite photos of us. It feels good to have the taxes done for this year and I'm making it a point to drink plenty of water!
That's nice of you to take some of the squares to your friend; I'm sure she appreciated them. Ha, ha, I hope the dog received a treat, too! :D
Rain and snow is not a good combination, is it? We had rain last night and this morning. Then, it was sunny for a bit, but, now, it is mostly cloudy. There's more rain in the forecast!

  5. Well done for getting your taxes done and out of the way for another year. I well remember the relief when I submitted mine.

That's a lovely photo of you and your dad. Do you have many memories of him? I may be wrong but I think you have mentioned you were quite young when he died.

I've had my piano lesson today ... all good. Most of the rest of the day has been spent relaxing. I feel very tired for some reason. xx

Yes, my father died when I was 7 (it'll be 60 years for this July!) I have some memories of him, but, I didn't get to know him as a person. I remember him as a rather indulgent parent. :)

Glad the piano lesson went well. I'm glad, too, that you are relaxing. Maybe the tiredness is due to the change to daylight savings time? Sometimes, it takes several days to adjust to it.

  6. Oh good, your taxes are all done and filed for another year. I always feel good when that task is completed.
That is such a sweet picture of you and your father. It must fill your heart with love to gaze at it.
Your stir fry picture from yesterday looked very good. I see you had more pineapples on the side. They are so refreshing aren't they?
I'm glad your leg feels better. You are right to baby it when any pain starts.
    Drink some water!

    1. Thank you, Debra; yes, it feels good to get the taxes done! I'm even getting a small refund, which I didn't anticipate! It'll go towards the gas bills!
It's one of the few pictures I have of my father and I together. There's another one where we are both going down a slide in the play ground - I am a lot older in that photo - 5 or 6, maybe; I vaguely recall being afraid to slide down alone and he accompanied me.
I like canned pineapple. They are especially good with a little condensed milk stirred in! :D
After that episode with sciatica, I panic when I get any leg pains! But, the pain went away and I even did some weeding this morning. Yes, ma'am! I'm going to drink a glass of water, right now! :D

  9. How happy that duo looks! I am sure you miss him immensely.

Do be careful about tackling too much too soon after you experience leg pain, or any other kind for that matter. Don't want you to aggravate it and make it worse.

    1. Thank you, Susanne. I do wish I had more time with my father; he died when I was 7 and I never really got to know him as a person.
Yes, I'm being careful with my aches and pains. I am trying to walk more, but, I rest when I need to. :)
