Dinner: Sauteed Chicken, New Potatoes, and Snow Peas |
Well, the forecast had been for a cloudy day, and it was that, but, it rained, too! A light rain, but, it started late last night and went on for most of the day. At one point, I looked out from the window and Mama Cat was seated under the curry leaf tree, flicking her ears as raindrops fell on her head! I guess she didn't want to get up and move a few feet to be under the patio roof, even though I had put out a rug for her to sit on and a cardboard box to sleep in! She is a feral cat although she lives in my garden.
I made French toast for brunch, today and had the new potatoes and snow peas from the garden with a piece of sauteed chicken for dinner.
I spent a good part of the day chatting with friends and one of my cousins. In between, I continued to repair the quilt and watched some videos. It was a very relaxed day and I had the heater on because I felt cold.
Today, I was grateful for:
- More rain for the garden!
- A working heater
- Chats with family and friends
- Being able to watch videos online
- A relaxed day
Today's joyful activities included chatting with family and friends and relaxing!
Plans for tomorrow include some housekeeping activities and making a birthday card for my half-sister.
How was your weekend? What are your plans for Monday?
Mama cat is one lucky cat to have chosen your garden to live in. We have been seeing on our news about all the flooding & such in California. I imagine because of all the wild fires burning off the vegetation, there's not a lot to hold back the mud slides. Hoping everyone keeps safe. Looks like Monday here will be shoveling off the snow from the driveway & front steps, all before rain on Wednesday (col).
ReplyDeleteMama Cat gets fussed over almost as much as Dancer, but, she's definitely an outside cat. Yes, the wild fires burned all the vegetation, then, we had more than a year's worth of rain fall in a very short period of time, along with more snow than we've had in years, and the saturated grounds are just giving way. It's a good thing that the reservoirs were as low as they were; otherwise, we would have had more flooding, I think!
DeleteSounds like you'll be getting in some exercise shoveling snow! Hope the rain helps with clearing off some of the snow!
Your new potatoes and peas reminded me of what we had every early summer to eat. Creamed new potatoes and peas. So delicious. As an adult, my attempts of growing potatoes hasn't worked out so well, so I haven't had this dish in a long time, but I can still taste the sweetness of vegetables fresh from the garden.
ReplyDeleteI've read of creamed new potatoes and peas in the Little House books, but, haven't had them, myself. I haven't had a lot of luck growing potatoes, myself; so far, this is my entire potato harvest, although I have a couple of other plants growing. But, I'm using potatoes from the grocery store that start to grow in the bag before I can eat them and just bury them in one of the planting beds. One year, I tried growing them in a deep pot and I had some success; the next year, I didn't get any potatoes! But, I have fun trying to grow them. :) I have another 4 or 5 potatoes sprouting in my bag of potato, right now, and I'll be planting them soon to see if I'll get more potatoes. :)
DeleteMaybe Mama cat likes the gentle rain! Or perhaps she was taking a shower? Your dinner looks yummy. I cooked a chicken breast for us yesterday with a concocted spicy sauce and some small junks of potato in the dish to bake as well. I cooked some frozen corn in the microwave later. We have sunshine and after a cold night, the temperature is well above freezing so DH has hopes of plenty of sap and is already boiling some collected earlier. I'm puttering at laundry and other chores.
ReplyDeleteI think Mama Cat didn't realize it was actually raining. That spot under the curry leaf tree seems to be her new favorite spot.
DeleteThank you, Bushlady; your dinner sounds delicious, too.
I'm glad you are having a sunny day and hope the sap will run well. I read an article on the BBC News website about the impact climate change is having on maple syrup production, and I thought of you.
Sounds like a busy day. I wrote myself a very long to do list before I went to bed and need to get started on it, myself! Hope you have a lovely day.
Your meal looks so tasty especially as they are your own home grown potatoes and pea pods.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen; yes, it was rather tasty if I say so myself. I just boiled the potatoes and steamed the pea pods, so, not a lot of elaborate cooking, but, when the ingredients are fresh, that's all the cooking that is required, isn't it?
DeleteYour dinner looks wonderful. Ive wanted to try growing potatoes, so this may be the year that I try!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I haven't had a lot of luck growing potatoes (I'm probably not doing it right), but, every now and then, I manage to pick a few potatoes which makes me very happy! I hope you will try growing potatoes and have better luck with it! :)
DeleteIt must feel nice to know that although she is feral, Mama cat clearly feels safe and welcome in your garden.
ReplyDeleteYour meal looks delicious. Xx
Mama Cat is very welcome, indeed.
DeleteThank you, Jules. :)
I bet the potatoes tasted even better knowing you had grown them yourself. Your meal looks very tasty. xx
ReplyDeleteYes, the potatoes tasted better because I grew them from a potato that might have otherwise been composted as it was already sprouting and a bit too soft to cook. :) It was a good dinner and I enjoyed it. :)
DeleteIt's me, Debra. I'm in my "new" office on a very old lap top that will probably post this as from anonymous.
ReplyDeleteHome grown food right there on your plate :)
Did you boil the potatoes? I bet they tasted good.
I will make some potatoes tonight. Probably some oven fries.
I made some lentils this morning and will probably make a vegetable frittata. My old standby is back in rotation now that egg prices are more reasonable.
I'm seeing more rain for your area - a lot of rain. I hope it doesn't present a problem for people. I know some areas of your state have been saturated with rain and snow.
Hi Debra!
DeleteYes, fresh from the garden food! Yes, I boiled the potatoes and added a little salt. They were good! Oven fries are good, too. :) Today, I noticed a potato plant sprouting from the compost heap! Hopefully, it will produce some potatoes! :D
You are preparing some good food there!
Yes, more rain is in the forecast! More snow on the mountains. One of the ski resorts announced that they will extend their ski season until July! They've had over 5 feet of snow and more expected!
M was saying that one of his clients has a home up in the hills with her back patio very close to the edge of a hill. Hopefully, that hillside is stable!
If I come back some day as a wild animal, I will head over to your place!
ReplyDeleteLOL, you'll have plenty of companions, if you do! :D There was a possum eating the cat food, this evening, when I looked. Mama Cat was seated on her rug (she had eaten, earlier) and the possum was finishing up the leftovers. :)
DeleteAfter a couple of days of sunshine and garden harvest, you were due for a bit of rain, which will no doubt result in even more garden harvest.
ReplyDeleteYes, the rain has helped the garden to grow! :)
