Great photos and I do love Dancer not being square, that made me chuckle. I must have missed Eileen's photo prompt I must pay more attention.

I'm sorry you missed Eileen's photo prompt - look for it when she posts the link for the February challenge - she usually gives the prompt for the following month's challenge at the end of it.

DeleteYou certainly did well with this month's photo challenge. Dancer not being a square is my favourite. Your curb side garden (parkway) looks very neat & tidy, what a great decision & completed project. Oh yum to cornbread!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou. Ha, ha, I had to get Dancer in there, somehow. I am pleased with how the parkway is turning out. I have one small area at the far end that still needs to be filled in because we ran short of pea gravel. M should be able to do that this week. The cornbread was delicious! :)

I like your crochet squares. They look like they are not put together. Is that something you're currently working on?
I just finished my 3rd baby blanket for donation this year and have started my 4th. I've been doing a lot of crocheting.
Dancer is definitely not a square! :D
DeleteThank you; the parkway doesn't look half bad, does it? M still needs to finish it - we ran short of pebbles for the far end and he bought 6 more bags for me, last Friday. Hope he can finish it this Friday or next week.
The crocheted squares have been joined into a blanket. I joined them using a slip stitch, but, catching only one strand of the edge stitches, partly to reduce the bulk in the seams and partly because I liked how it looked! I finished making it two years ago, in February 2021!

That was fun. I liked the knitted blanket, too. The black borders really set off the squares.

I used leftover yarn from my knitting, some yarn that was given to me by a friend's mother, and yarn I bought - Woolworths used to sell bags of odds and ends of yarn for $1 or so and the black yarn was from a yarn store downtown that sold yarn ends by the pound for a $1. :)

ReplyDeleteHi Judy! Thank you! The knitted sampler blanket was made in the 1970s and finished in the early 1980s; yes, I think they were rather popular in the 60s and 70s.

Excellent photos of squares. The knitted sampler squares are very interesting, and if Dancer is not being "square", then he must be trendy and cool!

The library had a book titled 101 Knitting Patterns or something like that (I've since acquired that book!) and I just started at the beginning and tried to make my way through all the patterns shown! I used yarn that was leftover from my knitting projects, some that a friend's mother gave me, and some purchased yarn - Woolworths used to sell bags of assorted yarn ends for a $1 or so. The black yarn was bought by the pound - a discounted yarn store in downtown used to sell bags of yarn for $1/lb., all yarn ends, so different lengths, but, it worked out well for the project. I still have some of the last bag that I purchased from them!

Another successful hunt. The parkway is a massive improvement, isn't it? No wonder you are pleased. I am another fan of the blankets, specially the knitted one. Aaaaaaaaagh..... keyboard squares! Where were my eyes!? Now, what we all want to know is: did you deliberately cut the cornbread in squares for Eileen's sake? Makes me think I should have bought some millionaire squares ... only for the hunt, obviously.

DeleteHa, ha, no, I usually cut the cornbread in squares when I bake it in my square baking pan. But, I might have placed the squares on the plate for the specific purpose of taking the photo! :D
I'm interested: did you knit the squares first and then join them with the black bits, or did you have to do the whole thing in one go? I am assuming it must have been the latter but don't know enough about knitting to be sure.
DeleteI knitted the squares, first. Then, I picked up stitches along one side of a square and knitted a short black band in garter stitch (knit on both sides), sewed another square to the black band, and continued until I had a row of squares with black bands connecting them. Once all the rows were made, I knitted (garter stitch, again) long narrow bands in black yarn, the length of the rows and sewed the rows to the long black bands. Making those long narrow black bands were the part I didn't enjoy doing!
