Friday's Accomplishments

Prompt: Bluff
"This is Anya from the anime spy x family - she's a telepath
so one can't bluff her"

Above is my daughter's drawing (based on an anime character) for Thursday (she sent it to me after I had done yesterday's blog post).  Below is her drawing for today:

Prompt:  Bad Dog

I told my daughter that her dog looked more like a cat - maybe it's a cat dressed as a bad dog for Halloween!  LOL!  She told me it is supposed to be a breed of dog called Shiba Inu.

Yesterday, my internet connection went down when I was video chatting with my daughter and we said our goodnights over the phone!  I was so glad that I had done my blog post and written my daily email to my friend, earlier in the day!

My daughter had gone for her Covid booster shot yesterday afternoon and so far, her side effects have been fairly mild.  Sore arm, of course, some chills and a low grade fever, fatigue, and a bit of a headache, but, not a migraine.  We are both very grateful that her side effects are fairly mild.  She did take the day off from work to rest and she said she took a nap in the afternoon (she had a disturbed night of sleep, last night, she said).

With the internet connection down, I wasn't able to play any of my usual online games and watch videos, last night!  Instead, I sorted through a small stack of papers, tidied the family room a little bit, watered the houseplants, and went to bed at midnight!  When I texted my daughter to say I was going to bed, early, she texted back asking if I was feeling okay?  LOL.  I couldn't fall asleep right away, but, I fell asleep soon after 1:00 a.m.  Then, I woke up at 4:00 a.m., feeling hungry!  I drank some water, but, that wasn't enough, so I ate half an apple.  Then, I went back to bed and slept, again, till 10:00 a.m.!

After I got up, showered, dressed, said my morning prayers, etc., I left for my blood test appointment.  My appointment was for 12:30 p.m. and this time, there was no long wait.  There were only three other people in the waiting room besides myself and I was taken in on time.  Afterwards, I paid the $2 for parking and came home.

I considered treating myself to something for brunch, but, I came home, instead, and ate the rest of the apple, a scrambled egg, and toast.

Then, I called the ophthalmologist's office - I had my annual check up scheduled for next week (appointment was made last year), but, I needed to reschedule the appointment because there is no one to drive me home, afterwards.  I rescheduled the appointment for the fourth week in November (the week of Thanksgiving) because my daughter would be home then.  I'm glad I was able to do that.

Later in the evening, M was here to tend to the garden.  He watered the garden (there is a 35% chance of rain, tomorrow night, but, I'm not counting on that!) and we set down a few more pavers in the parkway:

More Pavers in the Parkway

There are two more pavers left and I think we will put them down, one at each end.  The pavers are spaced approximately three feet apart, which gives me the option of adding more pavers in between, if I feel I need more of them.  Maybe even smaller pavers (although, they are more liable to be stolen!)  We shall see - it is an evolving work in progress!

Later in the evening, I chatted on the phone with Aunt C and friend R.  Dinner was leftover rice, sausage, and green peas.  For dessert, I had some of the peanut butter cups that M had given me when he returned the container in which I had given him turkey soup, the other week.  Yum!  Peanut butter cups are one of my favorite candies!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Medical insurance and access to medical care
- A safe drive to and from the clinic
- I was able to reschedule my eye appointment
- M helping with the garden
- Daughter's side effects are fairly mild

Today's joyful activity was eating chocolates seeing the parkway landscaping progressing!

Plans for tomorrow include doing some laundry and more paperwork.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. That's good to know your daughter didn't have too many side effects from her Covid jab. I like the bad dog your daughter has drawn, it reminds me of my daughter-in-law's dog. She had to leave her dog behind in Japan when she came to live in London with my son, and her dog was cared for by her mother, although her dog was very cute, same colour but obviously a very good dog :) I hope you get the rain you so desperately need and the pavers look good..

    1. Thank you, Eileen; my daughter seems to be doing fairly well with this booster shot - better than she did with the flu shot!
I'm sorry your daughter-in-law had to leave her dog behind, but, I'm sure her mother took good care of it. Of course it was a very good dog! :D
Thank you; the forecast says to expect light rain later, tonight. I'll believe it when I see it! :D

  2. I'm loving seeing your daughter's artwork. When the Internet is down, it's surprising how many other jobs get done

    1. Thank you, Angela; most probably she'll be all 'drawn out' by the end of this month! :D
Yes, the internet can be quite a time stealer! I found that out when I did the time log a couple of months back!

  3. What a clever drawing to use for your daughter's prompt of Bluff.
I like her pink hair. The little hat-like things off to the side? Are they her ears? Is it through these that she accesses her telepathic abilities?
Enquiring minds want to know ;)

The pavers look really good. Two more and some mulch and you've got a nice, tidy attractive look to a problem area. With the drought I don't think I'd be inclined to even plant it. But I like plants so I don't know how long I'd hold out. lol. You have a lot to do keeping the things in your yard alive so I'd resist extending my work - probably hahahaha

    1. Thank you, Debra; I asked my daughter what those black and yellow things were and she said they were hair accessories and had nothing to do with her telepathic abilities. :D

Thank you! I'm liking how it looks with the pavers in place. I'd love to be able to plant some ground cover or succulents, in between or around them, but, even succulents require watering until they are established. I will see how it looks once the mulch is in place. I might plant something closer to the entrance to my drive way...we shall see. :)

  4. Who doesn't like peanut butter cups? A favorite of mine, too. Looking forward to watching the parkway evolve. How long is it?

    1. These peanut butter cups are a Halloween version ("franken cups") with green chocolate at the bottom! :D
I haven't measured the parkway, but, I think it is about 35-40 feet. I'm eye-balling the spacing of the pavers and if they align or not. I just picked a spot for the first one, giving myself enough room between it and the edge of the driveway to plant something if I choose to do so. Then, for the 2nd paver, I just drew a line, approx. 3 feet from the edge of the 1st paver and did the same for the 3rd paver. M wasn't sure of my methods, and he "measured" the distance from the 1st to the 2nd paver by pacing it (exactly 3 paces) and from the 2nd paver to the line I had drawn for the 3rd paver - exactly 3 paces! He was amazed and looked at me with new respect! LOL! After that, he just paced the distances for the rest of the pavers. :D

  5. Oh it's always a curse when the internet goes down! Even if you don't need it for something specific, you always feel disconnected and there is rarely any indication how long it might stay down for. I don't have my lights or heating etc. attached to my internet but even so... They keep trying to convince me to get my landline connected to the internet, and I keep saying no to that too!

I must admit, I thought that was a cat at first. (Sorry.) Shiba inu have more of a snout, I think, but she's definitely got the tail right! :o)

Can't wait to see what you do with the parkway. It's a shame you don't have a tree or two, like the folks further down. Hope the paving slabs bed in soon so that no-one nicks them! And whatever you plant (if anything) I hope that the neighbours don't move it!! Have a good week!

    1. We don't realize just how dependent we have become on having access to the internet, until we don't have it! Having things all interconnected makes it convenient, but, then, when something goes off, then, everything that is connected to it also go off!
My daughter is better at drawing cats than dogs! LOL. She showed me a picture of a Shiba inu and it looks cute!
The City cut down a big tree that was growing in the parkway because the roots were causing damage to the pavements/sidewalks. It would have been nice if they had planted a replacement.

    2. Yes they are very cute dogs. Quite friendly, and their fur is like thick velvet!

  6. We really feel the loss when the internet goes down, don't we? I was amused that your daughter wondered if anything was wrong when you went to bed at midnight. She knows you well. I sometimes get hungry in the night. For a long time I always went down for an orange. Now I have occasionally gone for a choc ice popsicle!

    1. The internet is a source of entertainment for me! So many blogs to read, so many videos to watch, so many games to play! I need to turn it off at 11:00 p.m. and get myself ready for bed, instead of giving in to the urge to play one more game of sudoku or watch one more video! :D

Yes, my daughter knows me well! LOL. She's a night owl, too! I was debating between having an orange or an apple, that night, when I was hungry, but, the apple won! Often, I keep orange juice in the fridge, but, I haven't bought any, recently. Popsicles would have been great, too! :D

  7. I'm glad your daughter's side effects were mild. I'm having mine done on Monday along with a flu shot. I am sort of dreading it, but expecting some mild side effects and plan on taking it easy on Tuesday.

Glad you were able to get the appointment rescheduled!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Hope you have mild side effects, too. They say to drink plenty of water both before and afterwards.

Yes, I'm glad I was able to get the appointment rescheduled - it's the small stuff like how am I going to get home afterwards that always get me!

  8. I am glad your daughter didn't suffer too many unpleasant side effects from her vaccination. I am yet to be offered another, and I'm not sure the order in which they are being given this time.
The parkway is looking good. Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules. The boosters are being offered to anyone who wants them, here, but, apparently, not too many people are getting them! I am waiting until the 1st week in November to get mine.
