Well, guess who stayed up all night watching the live broadcast of the late Queen's funeral on TV? I watched the entire event, including the drive to Windsor, and I was fascinated by the whole thing. I am also extremely glad that the events unfolded so well without any unwanted incidents! It must have been a security nightmare, but, they managed to keep everyone safe!
It was past 9:00 a.m. when I went to bed and I slept till almost 1:00 p.m.
Today, I sewed the borders to the quilt top. The next step is to figure out the backing - I want to use another piece of fabric I have in my stash, but it is not wide enough. Pieced backings are a thing, so I will figure something out.
In addition to sewing, I cleaned the fridge, did the litter box, took the trash cans to the curb, chatted on the phone with neighbor T (she thinks she will be at the assisted living center for at least another month as she is not able to manage on her own at home, yet), chatted with friend R, and video chatted with my daughter.
I ate some rice and chicken curry for breakfast (at 5:00 a.m.) and had a cup of tea before I went to bed! Another cup of tea after I woke up, then, the last of the chicken and vegetable soup I had made last week for a late lunch followed by another cup of tea! Dinner was the last of the frozen gyoza/potstickers (there were only four left in the bag!) followed by apple slices and peanut butter. I need to make a meal plan for the week, but, I'll do that tomorrow, I think.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to watch the live coverage of the late Queen's funeral on TV
- The fabric stash
- Phone calls with friends and neighbors
- Video chats with my daughter
- Relaxed days.
Today's joyful activity was sewing.

I watched a good bit of the funeral this morning, but did not see it all live.
ReplyDeleteI was sure it would be shown again, later in the day (and it was, on one of the public TV channels, but, they cut out the long drive from London to Windsor in the rebroadcast), but, I wanted to watch it live. :)
DeleteI watched the Queen's funeral all day too, I can imagine staying up all night to watch as you did, you must be tired. It was beautifully done and how nice to see the Queen's pony and corgis waiting to greet her coffin. Her family have been a credit to her especially Prince William's children aged just nine and seven. I hope the family can be left to grieve in private for a time now.
ReplyDeleteIt was a once in a lifetime event, Eileen, and I wanted to watch it as it happened. I loved all the details, and admit I got a bit teary-eyed when I saw the pony and the corgis waiting. The members of the Royal family must be exhausted! They certainly deserve a little private time to grieve and rest!
DeleteThe pageantry of the Queens mourning and funeral was something to see. I feel bad for the family who had to do so many public things while they were grieving. Being a royal comes with a lot of perks, but it is definitely not the life I would want to live.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely something to see. It couldn't have been easy for the members of the family to be on display while they mourned; I do hope that they will be able to have some private time to grieve and rest.
DeleteYour Quality Control Officer is certainly an adorable one. The Queen's funeral was an amazing event - perfection. The Duke of Norfolk must be very satisfied with his & the Queen's pre-planning. It was said that The Queen did not want a long boring service, something short & with lots of hymns. Every detail was seen to.

I am glad you were able to watch the Queen's funeral. So sad to think that lovely lady is gone-but I don't believe life ends when we leave this earth...it is just on a different plane. I am working on my fabric stash, too. xo Diana

I didn't watch the funeral as a whole, but watched so many different clips about the whole day that I don't think I missed a whole lot. I was fascinated, too. I even found an interview with a couple of Canadian Mounties who had come over with colleagues to ride horses gifted in the past to the Queen by the RCMP, in the front of the procession to Windsor! They had a week to get reacquainted with them.

I'm glad you were able to watch the video clips, Bushlady. I watched the interview with the Canadian Mounties and thought of you and Mary-Lou (at Patio Postcards).

ReplyDeleteWell done for staying up all night to watch the Queen's funeral. I watched all of it but at least it was at a civilized time for us. I'm relieved that it passed without a major incidence, especially with so many of the World's Leaders there. The Met Police said it was the biggest event they'd had to police and I can believe that.
I've had a busy day today (Tues) filled with a visit to Joy and the personal training, both good, followed by a visit to the optician, not so good, so I have to go back tomorrow for further examination!

DeleteI wanted to watch the funeral in real time, as it took place, rather than watch it afterwards. But, I think I'm getting a bit too old for all-nighters! I am very glad that the whole thing proceeded so smoothly and without any incidence; the level of security was unprecedented, I think.
I'm sorry to hear that the visit to the optician wasn't so good and you will need a further examination. I hope it isn't something major. Sending good wishes your way!

Going to bed at 9 and getting up at 1 isn't much sleep but you had a productive day nonetheless.
Yes, I wanted to watch the live telecast, but, the lack of sleep sort of caught up with me, yesterday, and I felt tired. I guess I'm getting too old for pulling all-nighters! :D
DeleteI also had the funeral broadcast on the whole day. I didn't know what to expect and I was surprised by many elements of it. I'm also relieved that it passed without incident. A great job done by all. Having so many prominent people in one place, never mind the immediate family so vulnerable parading along a well-publicised route, they were sitting ducks for anyone who might have had other ideas. Hats off to all concerned ... including you for staying up for it! That's stamina, even for a night owl!
ReplyDeleteIt was very well done and I am so glad that nothing went seriously wrong when it came to security! I was so surprised that people were allowed to throw flowers at the hearse, though! As for staying up all night, I think I'm getting a bit too old for it, because I felt tired for a day or two afterwards! I hope the coronation might be of shorter duration! :D
DeleteThey had asked people not to throw flowers (citing potential nuisance for later road users, although I suspect there was more to it than that) and in Scotland, the vast majority complied but it seemed to be less and less enforced, the closer it came to the actual funeral. It was touching to see, especially those which landed on the hearse, but yes I agree - a real challenge for the protection officers. Too much scope for other UFOs!
DeleteAll the more reason for being thankful that nothing bad happened. I heard on the news that the flowers left as memorials are being gathered, and, with the help of volunteers, sorted so that non-compostable bits like plastic wrappers and toys, etc., are removed, and will be composted and spread on the park grounds, later. I thought that was a very good thing to do, rather than dump them all in a landfill, somewhere!
