Monthly Photo Challenge: August

Eileen's monthly photo challenge theme for August was "noughts and crosses".  We don't often use the term "nought" over here, in the USA, and the game known as "noughts and crosses" is called Tic Tac Toe over here, but, I grew up using the term.  Even so, I found it quite a bit of a challenge to find appropriate photos for this challenge.  These are what I found:

A Scrap of Fabric on a Quilt

(There are memories attached to this piece of fabric - my mother and I purchased it in 1979 on our first return trip to Sri Lanka and my mother made a set of pyjamas with it for my step-father; this was a remnant scrap that I used for my Dresden Plate quilt).

Cat Food Kibbles

Human Food Cereal

Design on Glasses

Stand Fans

Whew!  I managed my required five photos!

Oh, but, where's Dancer?

Well, nought is sometimes spelled as naught, isn't it?  Lady Ella suggested that I could use this photo of Dancer (taken August 2) for the challenge:

Dancer: Being "Naught-y"

How about one of you being cross, Dancer?

"Is this cross enough for you?"

Yes, thank you, Dancer!

Thank you, Eileen, for organizing the monthly photo challenges; I found this one rather challenging!

Thank you, Lady Ella, for your helpful suggestions!

  6. I found the subject of X's made for interesting photos. And of course, your naught-y photo is the best.

    1. I sort of drew a blank when it came to this theme, June, and couldn't think beyond tic tac toe! I've since looked at what others photographed and I realize that I have a hard time thinking outside the box! Currently, I am looking at the ironing board, with its crossed legs forming the perfect X...

  7. This is really good! It doesn't seem as if you found it hard at all. I can't stop seeing Os and Xs everywhere, and even yesterday after posting my finds, I thought of two more! Noooooo! I photographed them but didn't add to the post.

I love the fabric in the top photo and also the cat food (specially the way you laid it out) but my favourite is the fans! Noughts at the top and crosses at the bottom :o) I'm glad to have been of assistance re. Dancer's contribution. I have to admit that the "naught-y" idea was not mine but friend L's. I told her on one of our walks about how he has to feature in every challenge somehow, and we wondered what he would do for August. L speculated on "naught-y" and when I saw him in the photo with the upturned basket I remembered which is why I suggested it. "Cross" was my own idea - I showed it to my Dad today and he said it looked as if Dancer was laughing uproariously, rather than cross!

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. I had a sort of mental block that didn't let me think beyond the piece of fabric that I knew I had incorporated into a quilt and tic tac toe! Now, I'm sitting here and looking at the ironing board and I see the X made by the legs and the letters on the keyboard, etc. :D

Thank you to your friend L for suggesting "naught-y" and to you for remembering it and suggesting it to me. Thank you, too, for suggesting cross - yes, Dancer does look like he's laughing, doesn't he? But, I thought his eyes glowing yellow sort of made him look cross. (He was, of course, simply yawning! :D )

    2. Don't worry, it's easily done! I said to friend L that it would be great if we saw a narrow boat or barge called "Tic Tac Toe" but of course, we didn't... then no sooner have I clicked "publish" but I recall I have a beach towel with it written on, and not only that, it has a set of x and o counters to play the game! I also thought, too late, of shoe eyelets and crossed laces! But the thing that annoyed me most was that, after a whole month looking for a car with "xxx" in its registration, today I was passed by one TWICE!! 😮

  9. These are great Bless and I love the way you have included Dancer ... I did wonder how you were going to do that this time. I agree with Lady Ella and it doesn't show that you struggled with the theme at all. I hope you find the September theme more inspiring! Many thanks for joining in x

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Lady Ella and her friend L helped with Dancer being included! :D Doing these challenges is good for my brain health! I need to think outside the box a bit more! I've already made a list of possibilities for September's theme and I think it will be easier for me! Thank you for continuing to do these monthly challenges. :)
