Zucchini Plants |
Another warm day, today, with a high of 95F outside and 88F inside.
I decided to switch around my usual weekly cleaning schedule a bit and cleaned the kitchen (usually scheduled for a Thursday) in the morning, before it got too hot - did the dishes, scrubbed the sink, wiped down the stove and counters, swept and mopped the floor, etc. Afterwards, I replied to blog comments, etc., and watched some online videos. Later, I watched news and cut more fabric.
In the evening, I watered the garden, both front and back. The zucchini plants are really struggling, this year. I picked the one zucchini that looked big enough to pick and which was still green in color. This is definitely NOT the summer of zucchini!
Today, I called friend A to check on her, called and wished Aunt C for her birthday, chatted with friend R, and video chatted with my daughter. Another of her friends is getting married, early next year, and has asked her to be a bridesmaid! The wedding will be held in Hawaii as that's where her friend lives; my daughter is looking forward to visiting Hawaii. I told her that I wanted to visit Hawaii, too! LOL.
Brunch was a salad and a corned beef sandwich. Dinner was chicken curry and a tortilla. I had a pancake with some of my peach jam for a snack, as well as some mango. There might have been an ice cream cone, too! LOL!
Today, I am grateful for:
- Water for the garden
- Whatever I am able to harvest from the garden
- Fans and electricity to run them
- A working fridge and freezer
- Phone calls with family and friends
Today's joyful activities included being out in the garden and playing with fabric.
Plans for tomorrow include some housework and relaxing.
How was your Wednesday? What are your plans for Thursday?
It looks like what you gained in broccoli you lost in zucchini! Hawaii sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou win some and you lose some! I guess it evens out in the end. :)
DeleteIt's another warm day here as well, and Lily and I have a cycling lesson this afternoon! I will be sure to take plenty of water to drink.
ReplyDeleteYour courgettes look like they are struggling with the heat. I can't forget you growing so many last year. X
Enjoy that cycling lesson and yes, have plenty of water to drink!
DeleteMy whole garden is struggling with the heat and watering restrictions, this summer. I still have some zucchini from last year in the freezer!
Well, maybe every other year will be zucchini summers! The plant definitely does not look happy.
ReplyDeleteYou had a productive day by the sounds of it, despite the heat. Hawaii is a place I'd like to visit one day as well ... not sure that I will ever get there though as there are so many other places on the list!
I'm not enjoying the heat today so have abandoned the sorting I'd planned and am reading instead. We're up to 31°c today with it due to be hotter tomorrow so I doubt I will achieve much tomorrow either ... not that hot by your standards but too much for me!
Thank you for mentioning my blogging problems and keeping people informed. Also for the emails as well. xx
Yes, I guess every other summer will be zucchini summers. I think I'll look for a slightly shadier spot in the garden for next year's zucchini!
DeleteYou are wise to take it easy in that heat! I am taking it easy, today, myself. Today's high is supposed to be 98F (36C); it is 96F already at 12:45 p.m. and I'm preparing to sit in front of the fan for the rest of the afternoon!
You are welcome, Eileen; glad you are able to post, now. :)
You should start planning your trip now. Even if you're not invited to the wedding, you could travel with your daughter and have fun after or before the wedding. And hopefully, by next year, things will have settled enough that you would feel comfortable traveling. I think the idea of going to Hawaii is very exciting.
ReplyDeleteI will not be going with my daughter, this time, but, it would be fun to plan a future trip. :)
DeleteThat must be wonderful to get married in Hawaii and how lovely for your daughter to be a bridesmaid. perhaps she could squeeze you into her suitcase so you can be there too :)
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like a lovely place for a wedding, doesn't it? Ha, ha, my daughter will need to get a steamer trunk to have me fit in! :D
DeleteWhat a sad zucchini plant. No gifts to neighbours this year!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for your daughter to anticipate taking part in a wedding in Hawaii.
Yesterday I tidied up a lovely geranium plant that had been spoiled by the rain. It needed some deadheading anyway. It is now ready for the next fertilizing when it has dried out. I saw a hummingbird visiting it!
That is a very sad zucchini plant, isn't it? Nothing to gift to friends and neighbors, this year, unfortunately.
DeleteYes, my daughter is looking forward taking part in her friend's wedding. :)
You are rescuing plants that have been spoiled by the rain and I am trying to rescue plants that have been spoiled by a lack of rain! I was outside, this morning, watering some of the few remaining vegetable plants, just to keep them alive! I'm sure the hummingbird is enjoying your garden! :)
No, it is definitely not a zucchini summer like last year.
ReplyDeleteA wedding in Hawaii sounds like a lot of fun for your daughter.
You were smart to get your cleaning done early before the heat of the day sets in.
How is the work next door at neighbor T's? And how is she doing? Have you had an update from her daughter?
I guess I'll have to try for a zucchini summer next year! :D
DeleteI was teasing my daughter about being a pro at being a bridesmaid!
I have to switch to early morning cleaning now, because after about 1:00 p.m., the house gets too heated to do anything.
T's new roof is in place and her new swamp cooler has been installed. I haven't heard from her daughter and haven't called her, either (don't want to be a nosy neighbor!). Maybe I'll call her tomorrow.
Poor zucchini! I am not sure I could have ID'd it, had you not said what it was. Last night it rained here for the first time in many weeks. I went outside and manually filled as many containers as I could from the downpipe that acts as an overflow from the butt. Today we had another heavy shower and did the same again, using a few bucketfuls to slosh over the roots of two fuschias which are looking almost dead, the rhubarb which never complains about extra water, and the courgettes and cucumbers which I wanted to make sure were properly doused. (They are under trees, so unless the rain is very heavy, it often doesn't permeate through.) We are officially in drought conditions so I hope the rainfall will make a difference to the situation overall. It is terrible, and I really feel for those in countries/areas where this is the norm year after year. (I know we will have to prepare for that eventuality too.)
ReplyDeleteI think we can safely say that the zucchini plants are ready to be pulled up and composted!
DeleteI'm so glad that you've had a couple of rain showers. I hope it is just the beginning and there will be more rain to water your gardens and fill your rivers! Some people are predicting a mega flood in California, sometime in the future, where it will rain non-stop and drown us all! Of course, no one is saying when that will happen, just that it will happen! :o
