June Grocery Shopping Part 1

I put in an order for groceries on Monday and picked up the groceries on Tuesday.  I am happy to report that I received everything I ordered and paid for!  There were no bags of forgotten groceries lurking in the store refrigerator!  LOL.

I bought:

1.15 lb. Bananas (3) @ $0.65/lb. = $0.75

1 Cucumber = $0.99

1 Iceberg Lettuce = $1.49

1 package shrimp (0.73 lbs.) @ $3.00 lb. = $2.16!
(Shrimp original price $14.17/lb., on sale for $5.99; it was going to be my splurge item, but, the package I received was reduced 50%!)

10 cans tuna in water, @$0.99 = $9.90

1 package ham cold cuts, 9 oz., regular price $4.99, on sale with coupon = $2.97

18 Eggs, regular price $5.99, on sale with coupon = $2.97 (it was cheaper than the regular priced 1 dozen eggs)

3 frozen burritos, @ 4 oz.; @$0.69 = $2.07

1 can (24 oz.) pasta sauce = $1.34

1 package American cheese slices, 16 ct. (reg. price $5.99, on sale with coupon) = $3.47

1 box saltine crackers, 16 oz. = $2.19

1 loaf multi-grain bread, 24 oz. = $2.49

My grocery order total was $43.29
Coupons and sales came to $10.50

My total after coupons and sales came to $32.79

June grocery budget = $100 + $17.32 carried over from May = $117.32

I'm going to try to keep to this budget even though my daughter will be visiting for one week.

Have you gone grocery shopping in June, yet?

  1. You did well with the coupons, $10.50 is quite a reduction to the final bill. No grocery shopping as yet this month, I'm working through some things in the frig & freezer. I continue to be quite shocked at the prices of food & now our dairy farmers are wanting a raise in pricing. Our food budget will need a re-look before I place my next order.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I was happy with my total. Food prices will continue to rise, I'm afraid. I'm shopping the sales for the most part and shopping with the mindset that this is probably the cheapest it is going to be. Wish you well with the review of your food budget.

  2. $100 doesn't go very far these days with the steep increase in prices that we've had recently. Good luck with keeping in your budget.

    1. Thank you, June! I'm going to try to keep to the budget, but, if not, I can increase it, if needed. It would help a lot if I feel comfortable going in person to shop in the cheaper stores!

  3. I've done the shopping for some of the batch cooking but will need to shop again to finish that off. I still have to look at restocking the cupboards though.

    1. Another of your comments that went to the spam folder, Eileen. Restocking is ongoing, at this end! I need to use up some canned items I bought at the beginning of the pandemic as they've come to their expiry dates (although I do know that canned goods will still be good for several months, if not years, beyond their expiry dates) and replace them with newer stock.

  4. Well done on the shrimp and cold cuts and the eggs, and getting the whole order, no hidden bags left behind!
After endless rain and cool weather, we woke up to sunshine and it was already above 70F. I did some laundry and a little gardening, pulling out milkweed on the lawn, and bracken and spreading dogbane from a. flower bed!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I thought of you and what you said about using your own cooked chicken to make sandwiches when I ordered the cold cuts, but, gave into temptation and bought it, anyway! :D I made myself a sandwich at tea time and enjoyed it. The shrimp being 50% off on top of the sale was a complete surprise! I cooked it last night; had a portion for my dinner, and froze 2 more portions for later, maybe to share with my daughter when she comes home. :)
Sounds like you are having a lovely, summery day! You did a lot in the garden!

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. The only thing I've cooked so far were the shrimp - I made a shrimp curry and had some of it for dinner, last night, with rice and broccoli. Then, I froze the leftover shrimp curry in two portions for later. I also cooked a fish curry, using frozen fish that I had bought earlier and kept in the freezer. I'll have that for my dinner, tonight. :)

  6. You always do so well with your specials. I went to the fruit stand that is down the street from me. I bought salad ingredients, a watermelon, two mangoes, and a pineapple for $25.00. She is always so appreciative when I shop there. I like the outdoor fruit and veggie stands in California...especially this time of year.

  7. You had some good savings on your grocery shop. Prices are shooting up here too, very worrying how it is going to affect people before too long.

  8. You got some good deals this visit with the shrimp, cold cuts and eggs.
I enjoy shopping the sales and ordering online.

The other week I got a good chicken deal. It was $2.99 a pound for boneless skinless and I ordered the 2 pack because the breasts were huge. They substituted the larger pack with 4 breasts and only charged me for the smaller pack so my chicken ended up much less per pound.
