Flowers of Friendship |
Today, my daughter and neighbor S's daughters N and C got together and spent a couple of hours painting as a fun activity to do together before daughter left! They sat in S's open patio area, masked, while they painted. These girls grew up playing together (N was an infant when I moved into my house) and I am glad to see that they have remained friends. Afterwards, S sent some Easter bread home with my daughter, but, we ate it before I remembered to take a photo! It was delicious!
Today was a cool (daytime high of only 64F) and windy day. We had been under gale force wind warning; it wasn't too bad during the day, but, it picked up in the evening and the fiberglass roofing panels in my back patio area worked their way free of the nails holding them down along one side and started to flap like crazy! I was afraid the panels would blow off, but, my daughter climbed up on the ladder and nailed some of them down as best as she could, considering the fact that the only nails I had were finishing nails! They are not meant to hold roof panels down when it was so windy! I also persuaded her to put two of the edging stones as added weights to hold the panels down, although she was afraid they'd fall down on someone's head! Then, I texted gardener M to ask if he could buy me some nails, tomorrow, on his way to water the garden! I am so thankful that she was home to fix the patio roof panels, even if it was a temporary fix. Not at all sure what I would have done if I had been alone as I would not have wanted to climb ladders by myself! Probably would have asked neighbor E across the street if his son could help (E is having health problems, otherwise he'd be the first to help!)
Other than that, it has been a relatively quiet day. Daughter had back to back meetings all day; I brought the trash cans in, checked on the garden and straightened up some flower pots that had fallen for the wind, picked some oranges, called and checked on friend A, spoke with friend R, replied to blog comments, etc. We had leftovers for both brunch and dinner, and, afterwards, we finished watching Fiddler on the Roof.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter was home to fix the patio roof panels
- Daughter was able to spend some time with N and C, painting
- Fresh oranges from the tree
- Leftovers!
- S sending Easter bread for us to enjoy
Today's joyful activity was watching the rest of the video with daughter.
Plans for tomorrow include having M fix the roof panels for me, if possible.
How was your Tuesday? What are your plans for Wednesday?
I like the idea of the flowers of friendship. What I nice and fun activity for your daughter and her friends.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice activity for friends to do together, isn't it? My daughter had the canvases and paint supplies on hand, so it was a relatively low cost way to spend time with friends. :)
DeleteThe paintings are lovely. What fun to share this with friends. And great that you got the patio roof panels looked after :)
ReplyDeleteThe paintings are as individual as the girls are, yet, they make a nice grouping together, don't they? Oh, I am so thankful to have the patio roof panels nailed down, again!
DeleteOh my - those fiberglass panels do not like the gusting wind do they? It's good your daughter was able to do a quick fix.
ReplyDeleteHopefully M can find some heavy duty nails and nail them down for you.
It's finally warming up a bit here - it was in the 60's yesterday and again today.
My yard is full of springtime blooms. Now that we took down that fence around the patio, I can see so many more things when I look out from the house and it's so nice to take it all in. My view has been reinvented.
The panels have probably outlived their life span! They've been in place for just about 25 years and have become quite brittle after being baked in the hot sun and exposed to the elements. The whole thing probably needs to be replaced, but, that's another project, isn't it? M needs to buy longer nails to fix the panels better, but, he put in some nails that he had and I think it will hold until the next gale blows through!
DeleteI'm glad to hear that it is finally spring up where you are and you are able to enjoy vistas of the garden and the spring flowers, now that your patio fence is gone. I hope you will share some photos; by the way, "spring" is this month's theme for the photo challenge. :)
Was your daughter's painting the one on the left?
ReplyDeleteI hope M has been able to fix the rood panels for you but well done to your daughter for the temporary fix. I wouldn't have wanted to climb on a ladder on a windy day.
I love Fiddler on the Roof and have seen the Topol version of the film many times as well as seeing it live on stage. I've also playing many of the songs in various bands over the years ... I just love the music and it never gets boring!
Yes, the painting on the left is what my daughter did. :)
DeleteYes, it was good of daughter to climb up on the ladder, last night. Not only was it windy, it was cold and dark, as well. The box of nails blew off the roof where she had kept it and I was still picking up nails in the garden, this morning! M needs longer nails that what he had, but, he fixed the roof for now. I have asked him to buy me some longer nails.
Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favorites; I've only seen the film version with Topol.
The girls have made quite a nice triptych between them! Gosh that does sound like a gusty day! Don't need to ask if you needed a jacket to go out! (I didn't! Hahaha!) Now going to look up Easter bread...
ReplyDeleteThey did, didn't they? :) Glad you didn't ask if I wore a jacket! :D I pulled on a zippered sweatshirt/hoodie type jacket over the sweatshirt I was already wearing! :D
DeleteIf you are looking up the Easter bread, search for Armenian Easter Bread or choereg. It's a sweet, eggy yeast bread.
I've just been catching up with your previous posts. I'm glad you are feeling okay following your booster and I'm pleased you are enjoying the last few days of your daughter being at home. It's been a while :) And I don't imagine either of you would have expected it would have been for this length of time.
ReplyDeleteThe paintings are beautiful, and what a lovely activity to share while they were all together.
I hope you have managed to get the roof panels fixed. X
Thank you, Jules; yes, I'm feeling fine after the booster. You are right; neither of us imagined the originally planned for 3 months visit would last for an addition one year! It has gone by in a flash, too!
DeleteI liked the fact that my daughter and my neighbor's daughters spent their time together painting these pictures. Pre-pandemic, they would have gone out to enjoy a meal, but, the paintings will be a memento of their evening.
Yes, the panels have been fixed for the time being! We need longer nails which M will try to buy for me.
Lovely paintings. Glad she was able to get together with her friend. We are supposed to get high winds, but it's not been too bad yet - not bad enough to blow anything loose. We might have storms tonight. I sleep with earplugs as husband snores, so that helps keeping out the noise. I might even sleep through them!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, aren't they? I really like how each girl painted her interpretation of the theme on her canvas. :)
DeleteOh, I hope you don't get any really bad storms and any damage from them! Hope you sleep well, Sharon. :)
What fun to paint happy flowers together! I'm glad your daughter managed to secure the fibreglass panels. Wind can be so destructive. We had some gusty wind recently but it only fetched down a few small branches from the trees.
ReplyDeleteWe have put away all the maple syrup equipment and we are happy that we finished when we did, even though Monday and Tuesday started the sap running again. Now I will have to get back to my taxes!
I'm glad the girls planned to do some painting as an activity when they got together, this time. Pre-pandemic, they might have gone out to eat, but, this is better, I think. :)
DeleteYes, I'm so glad that my daughter was home to secure the panels down! M will try to buy some longer nails to try and nail them down a bit more securely, but, the panels are rather brittle with age and it might be time to get that whole thing replaced.
I'm sure you are relieved to be done with the maple syrup making. It sounds like a lot of work, even if you had some help. But, I'm not sure if doing the taxes is any better! Good luck with the taxes! :D
I like the paintings, three different personalities, I like your daughters picture, is she an optimist? To me the sunrise/sunset colours and picture suggest a faith in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt was fortunate that your daughter was able to deal with the panels for you, hopefully M will secure them. We had a cyclone storm predicted for last night, but fortunately it changed direction, phew!
Hi Sharon, I like how the three paintings turned out. Yes, I think my daughter is an optimist. :) It was very fortunate that she was able to fix the panels, yesterday! M put in more nails, today, but, we need longer nails. I've asked him to buy some for me.
DeleteI hope you are feeling better, Sharon and continuing to recover. Take care of yourself and thank you for continuing to read and comment on my blog.
That's good that your daughter was able to do a temporary fix on the roof for you and I hope M is able to do a more permanent fix.
ReplyDeleteThe paintings are beautiful and what a fun activity for the friends.
Yes, I'm so thankful that my daughter was home and able to do the temporary fix on the panels. M was able to hammer in a few more nails, today, but, we are going to need longer nails. Eventually, of course, I probably need to re-do the patio roof, but, that's for another day.
DeleteI really like how the girls painted their pictures! My daughter says they all enjoyed the activity and had fun. That's the kind of creative fun I like to see them do. :)
Your daughter was very brave getting up on the ladder in the wind! The activity sounds awesome - just the right thing to make good memories.
ReplyDeleteYes, she was very brave to do so and I am very thankful for that. We will definitely remember that evening! :)
