Japanese-Style Chicken Curry |
It was cloudy all morning, today, and then, it started to drizzle in the afternoon! It didn't rain hard, but, the drizzle lasted for about a couple of hours More water for the garden!
I had a red, slightly swollen, itchy area, about 1.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches long, on my right forearm, just near the inner elbow, this morning. I didn't know if it was a bug bite or an allergic reaction to something! Had I been decluttering in the garage, this morning, I might have suspected an insect bite, but, I hadn't been in the garage or even in the garden! I applied some cortisone cream to it and, at daughter's insistence, took an antihistamine, as well. Eventually, the itchiness and redness went away. But, I still feel that that particular area in my arm is still a bit puffy.
I took it easy and rested in the afternoon. But, later, I did two loads of laundry, ran the dishwasher, and cleaned the kitchen, scrubbing under the stove burners, cleaning the fridge door handles, and some of the cabinet door fronts.
Brunch had been assorted leftovers - daughter ate rice, the last piece of salmon, and broccoli; I ate chicken curry and a tortilla. For dinner, daughter cooked a Japanese-style chicken curry and rice. The Japanese curry is a bit sweet and I am not used to curry being sweet! It is an acquired taste, I guess.
Today, I am grateful for:
- More rain for the garden
- The cortisone cream and antihistamine helping with the itchy red area on my arm
- Daughter cooking dinner
- Working appliances
- Fresh oranges from the garden
Today's joyful activity was relaxing and watching videos online.
Plans for tomorrow include taking down the living room drapes, washing them, inserting new sliders into the transverse drapery rods, and hanging the drapes again. Provided they don't end up in shreds! One is already starting to tear!
How was your Saturday? What are your plans for Sunday?
Good luck with the drapes. Anything that big always has a risk of chaos. I find lavender essential oil is good for most small bug bites, as lavender is the only one that should be used neat on the skin. It sounds like cortisone was a better bet for that one. I hope it clears up soon
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. The drapes were washed and rehung with minimal damage! The lace/net curtains didn't fare as well, but, I expected that and had some spare ones on hand!
DeleteThe skin irritation seems to have healed; good to know about the lavender essential oil.
I think it was smart to take the antihistamine. I do that sometimes with bug bites and it helps.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. It seems to have helped because the irritation has healed. :)
DeleteI'm glad the itchy area cleared up quickly and hope it does happen again. It sounds like you have a productive day cleaning in the kitchen and even more so tomorrow if you do wash the living room curtains. I do hope they don't end up in shreds ... do you have spares if that does happen?
ReplyDeleteI having a quiet afternoon and resting my knee. Nephew A was here earlier to move the rest of the pots for me, so that's all finished now. I'll watch the final of The Great Pottery Throw Down later on. xx
Thank you, Eileen; the rash or whatever it was seems to have cleared up, now.
DeleteI've had a very productive afternoon, today! The lace/net curtains did end up tearing, but, I had spares! Luckily for me, the drapes, themselves, stayed in one piece!
I'm glad your nephew was able to help you move the pots and you are resting your knee! Hope you are enjoying a relaxed evening.
I agree about the Japanese curry! It's like nothing else! Heaven knows how they invented it... I remember the first time I saw the bars/blocks ... WHAT?! I grew to quite like it but only by not thinking of it as curry. Hope your insect bite has resolved itself. I have had a really painful elbow for a week, yet I don't recall knocking it any time. Odd...
ReplyDeleteI have had kare raisu (curry rice) and kare pan (curry filled bread) before, but, I still can't quite get over the sweetness of the curry. My rash or insect bite or whatever it was seems to have healed; I do hope your elbow pain will ease, soon.
DeleteI'd forgotten about karepan (and curry doughnuts)! Tried once I think, and then rapidly moved on!
DeleteI don't think I've had curry doughnuts! Must look for them whenever I next venture to the bakery in the Japanese town, in downtown. I added a little water and some frozen green peas to the curry that my daughter made, last night, and warmed it up and that toned down the sweetness just enough for me to really enjoy it. :)
DeleteIt sounds like some tiny insect might have got at you without you noticing. We sometimes have a tiny mosquito sneak in with the firewood, a surprise in winter. I'm glad the antihistamine seems to have worked. I was surprised to hear of the Japanese curry as somehow I don't associate curry with Japan, but what do I know!
ReplyDeleteWe had some freezing rain last night and it coated all the twigs, and we had a little rain. The temperature has been well above freezing all day and the ice has melted, but the driveway looks rather icy. It wasn't really a day for going out much, even the squirrels didn't put in much of an appearance.
Whatever caused it, the red, itchy patch on my arm seems to have gone away. I hope it doesn't flare up, again! I'm surprised mosquitoes can survive the winter, but, I suppose they find warmer, micro climates in the wood pile.
DeleteApparently, curry is quite popular in Japan, but, it is a sweeter version of curry than what I generally make.
That freezing rain sounds dangerous! Icy roads and sidewalks are not much fun! I'm glad you didn't have anywhere you had to go to. Hope tomorrow will be a warmer day. :)
That's funny, I have a little red bump on my right forearm near my inner elbow too. It itches as well. It seems to come and go, but always in that same spot. Strange. Since yours is a bit puffy, it may be a bug bite. The cortizone cream should help. Your daughter's Japanese curry looked so good. You both seem to be such good cooks. Happy belated birthday and many more to her. Washing drapes sounds like quite the chore. Denise
ReplyDeleteMy itchy patch has cleared. I hope yours will clear, too - try some cortisone cream, if you have any.
DeleteMy daughter says thank you for the well wishes. We both enjoy cooking when the mood strikes us. She is more likely to look up different recipes to try; I tend to stick to the ones I know and like! :D Washing the drapes turned out to be a bit of a project, this time, because they hadn't been washed in a long time, and we needed to take down the rods to insert the little slider things, etc. But, with my daughter helping me, we got it all done! :)
I hope the itchiness and swelling don't return, it's a mystery how and where these things occur. I agree about the curry, it doesn't sound quite right to be sweet but not something I have ever tried.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen; the itchy area seems all better, now. Apparently, curry is very popular in Japan! They call it curry-rice. Maybe your daughter-in-law might make some for you, one day. :)
DeleteThe curry looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI hope your arm gets better soon. X
Thank you, Jules. My arm is all better, now. :)
DeleteGlad the arm is better. With winter being so cold I do not miss all the bugs that come with the warmer weather lol
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Today, I noticed a baby spider scurrying along the living room wall; time to vacuum all the corners!
DeleteProbably a good idea to take the antihistamine - who knows what caused your problem? I'm glad it started to get better.
ReplyDeleteYou got a few things cleaned in your kitchen. Is the your current area?
The curry looks delicious.
Oh gosh - I hope that curtain project doesn't present any problems.
The rash as since disappeared, but, I haven't been cleaning much in the garage, since then (even though I have been wearing long sleeves and gloves, etc.)!
DeleteThank you; the kitchen just needed some extra cleaning! The current week's area is the whole house! I will spend a little extra time in the kitchen, this week to get the rest of the cabinet doors washed. What I really need to do in the kitchen is wash the walls, but...maybe later.
The curry was interesting! :D The next day, I thinned my portion down with some water and added a handful of frozen green peas to it and I found it a little more to my taste (not quite as sweet).
The drapes project worked out very well! :)
