My February decluttering goal was 28 items decluttered. I more than met my goal, although many of the things I decluttered were from the shed and garage.
During February, one item came in from outside - a pair of shoes and I immediately tossed out the pair it was replacing, so no net gain.
The items I decluttered in February include:
2 gift bags from the stash (reused)
2 crushed bows (tossed)
1 roll of rusted wire (tossed)
several PVC pipe connectors (used to make a trellis, that has since been taken apart; tossed)
1 lamp fixture/switch (the type that could be fitted to the top of a bottle; tossed)
1 plastic plant tray/saucer (recycled)
1 foil baking tray (recycled)
1 tennis ball (tossed)
1 piece of floral foam (tossed)
1 small plastic bucket (recycled)
1 plastic flower pot (recycled)
1 metal towel bar (dented; recycled)
1 push mower/manual lawnmower (donated - left by the side of the road with the trash cans and someone took it to probably recycle the metal)
Old Push Mower/Manual Lawnmower |
1 pair shoes (tossed)/replacement pair came in
4 plates (used under potted plants as drainage containers; tossed)
1 cracked mug (tossed)
1 plastic bowl (recycled)
2 pieces of pipe insulation foam (tossed)
1 chimney from the old water heater (tossed)
1 stand lamp (recycled)
1 lamp shade (tossed)
several broken sprinkler heads (tossed)
several new sprinkler heads (given to M for his use)
several plastic planting trays (the kind in which 6-8 seedlings can be bought; I've reused them to start seeds, but, I don't need so many of them; I kept the peat pots as they can be planted in the ground, directly).
2 exam preparation books that daughter used in high school (recycled)
2 big recycling bins full of cans and bottles (recycled)
1 jar used to root cuttings (recycled)
1 expired cough syrup bottle and dosage cup (recycled)
dried out pens, glue sticks,
1 sweater (donated)
My goal for March is 31 items decluttered. I'd like them to be from the house, but, I've a feeling that the majority will be from the garage!
Did you have a decluttering goal in February? Were you able to meet your goal? Will you be joining me in decluttering in March?
I noticed a shop recently who had a bin for "used writing materials" where you could leave old pens/pencils/crayons for recycling. I'd not seen that before
ReplyDeleteThat's such a great thing! I haven't seen anything like that, here, but, I shall be on the look out for one - once I leave the house and start going places!
DeleteYou have done really well with the February decluttering challenge.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou. I am starting to feel like I'm making progress! :)
DeleteSounds like you did a good job cleaning out your shed. My gardening storage area in our garage needs a good sorting and cleaning like that. However, right now, it's too cold to spend much time out there to work on it.
ReplyDeleteI am happy with the state of the shed! :D I can go in there without worrying about getting an asthma attack from the dust! (When I first started cleaning it out, I wore a dust mask!) Next up is the garage! I'm sure you'll get to your garage when the weather warms up. Perhaps when it is time to do your spring planting?
DeleteI'm hopeless at decluttering. That is an old mower I'm sure my Dad had one like that back in the day. You're doing really well with your decluttering, well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen; decluttering doesn't come easily to me. If it did, I would have finished decluttering years ago! I am too sentimental, too frugal (a lot of the "experts" say to get rid of something if it can be replaced for $20 or under, but, I'd rather keep the item and hold onto my $20!), too much in the frame of "mend, make do", etc.
DeleteWell done on your successful February decluttering. Yes, I'll be joining you in March doing a mix of things in the house and also some of the heavier stuff in the garage.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. I'm pleased with what I was able to declutter this month. Looking forward to March! I'm glad to have you join me/ :)
DeleteThat is an impressive list. It's also inspiring. You are recycling as well as just throwing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. Yes, as far as possible, I try to donate or recycle. It makes me feel better about getting rid of things.
DeleteLook at you go! Nicely done on 28 items. I don't have a goal other than to visit each of my closets before spring arrives. I am making progress, and loving the lightened feeling I am getting by dealing with things I have ignored for years and years. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susanne. I like your goal of visiting each of your closets. Having a goal of a specific number of items decluttered helps to keep me focused.
DeleteYou are getting well into the swing of decluttering as usual. Here we cannot put plastic plant pots into the recycling and any coloured plastic like the blue or black mushroom cartons are not accepted. I have been collecting these and I suppose they will have to go somewhere but I hate to put them in the garbage.
ReplyDeleteI have posted an item on a local on-line give-away site and have some things in a box for the CS, but I need to get back to some serious decluttering in March.
I wonder if a local school will accept the mushroom containers for the children to make Easter baskets? I remember collecting the plastic strawberry baskets (back when they came in plastic baskets) to give to my daughter's class teacher when she was in 3rd grade and they did a craft project.
DeleteI was thinking back to the days when I would challenge myself to declutter 10 items a day - these days, I am finding it hard to do 1 item a day on some days! I like to think it is because I am mostly decluttered, but, I know that is not the reason! Even so, I am meeting my monthly targets!
I think spring is an easier time to declutter as we start thinking about spring cleaning and so forth. :)
I think you are right, I need to see if a school or a seniors' craft class can use them.
DeleteOr maybe your Church's Sunday school, if they have one?
DeleteYour cluttering efforts for February went very well.
ReplyDeleteYou accomplished so much getting that shed all done.
Congratulations on that. What a big job.
I had a very good month in February and got rid of quite a lot. I've started my March list and added 9 items already so off to a quick start.
Thank you, Debra. I am very happy with the shed cleaning that I was able to do. This month, I want to work on the garage.
DeleteI'm glad you, too, had a good month of decluttering in February and have already made a start on your March decluttering! :)
It's surprising just how much we find that we have when we actively begin to declutter. I donated several more bags to charity this month.
ReplyDeleteI need to tackle my wardrobe next, then Lily's toys. X
Well done on all the decluttering you did in February, Jules. Good luck going through your wardrobe and Lily's toys!
