Quiet on Wednesday

A quiet day, today, after all the excitement over switching pharmacies, on Tuesday.  It was a mostly sunny, relatively warm day, with the afternoon high being 78F.

The new pharmacy sent me a couple of notifications that they were processing my prescriptions.  I had been told to call the pharmacy customer service when the notifications arrive, so, I called and confirmed the address, etc.  At least, I did so on the first notification, which listed one of my medications; I didn't call on the second notification which listed several more medications.  I might call them, tomorrow, to confirm that I received the second notification, too.

M arrived later in the morning to tend to the garden.  He brought me two seed catalogs he had received for me to look through.  I will be planting a few more vegetables this year, but, maybe not 14 zucchini plants again!  LOL!

It was a rather low energy day for me so I didn't do a lot.  I spoke with neighbor T, cousin V, and friend R.  I walked for 20 minutes or so, up and down the driveway in the afternoon for some exercise.  I harvested another handful of peapods - I now have enough for a stir-fry.

The weekly grocery ads were delivered in the mail, today.  Store brand butter is on sale for $1.99/lb., again, but, I have plenty of butter in the freezer.  Pork is on a half price sale, $1.99/lb. for a shoulder roast and $2.49/lb. to $2.99/lb. for different types of chops, depending on the cut and bone in/boneless.  Beef is advertised at $6.99/lb.  Salmon fillets are on sale for $7.99/lb. (regular price is $9.99/lb.).  I will probably buy a pork roast and salmon fillets, I think.

I cooked spaghetti for dinner, using my tomato "soup" as the base for the sauce, with the addition of some cooked ground beef.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The pharmacy switch seems to be working out
- M tending to the garden
- Harvesting peapods from the garden
- Spending time out in the garden
- Phone calls with family, friends, and neighbors

Today's joyful activity was looking through seed catalogs.

Plans for Thursday include doing some tidying and maybe taking a free online painting class (being offered by one of the major craft supplies stores) with my daughter!

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?  How do your grocery prices compare?

  1. I love hearing about your garden. Low energy days aren't a bad thing. It's time to regroup. Good luck with the pharmacies!

    1. The garden is coming along, nicely. :) Thank you; the new pharmacy has sent me a new notification, today, saying the first medication has been mailed and provided me with a tracking number. I'll give it a couple of days and look out for it!

  2. Seed catalogs are so fun to look at, especially this time of year when our weather is cold and dreary.

    1. They are, aren't they? One of the catalogs has only descriptions, no pictures. The other one is full of pictures of some fairly exotic looking vegetables, in addition to the regular ones - white bittermelon (regular ones are green), green eggplants, and black tomatoes! Makes me want to get some just for the novelty of it! :)

  3. I am glad the pharmacy switch is working out. I don't have a real garden anymore and do miss growing things. I do a few flowers but that is about it.
Our grocery stores are pretty high priced right now and we are short on a lot of supplies. I couldn't find any regular white potatoes yesterday.
I have a couple of runs today- bank and to pick up a grandaughter and then another run with her later in the day.

    1. Thank you, Diana; the pharmacy notified me today that they have mailed one of my medications.
Do you have space for a few potted plants? Maybe you could grow a few vegetables in planters?
Oh, I hope you will be able to find some potatoes in your stores, soon!
Sounds like a busy day! Enjoy your time with your granddaughter. :)

  4. I should think you would need a quiet day after all the hassle of the pharmacy changes the day before. I hope you enjoyed the painting class if you if you did take part.

    1. I must be getting old (I am, after all, older than you! :D) because things I used to take in stride now tend to flatten me! The painting class is in the evening - something about painting birch trees; looking forward to it! :)

  5. Quiet days are good! they create a calmness and a sense of well being I think. I love looking through seed catalogues Every year I try something new, this year I got the long skinny aubergine and it is growing like a triffid. Our prices are expensive compared to yours Butter on sale is $5.99, thats about $4 US dollar, the thing is we produce butter, but it gets exported. Beef was US$24.70 Pork chops US$14! And these are specials. Our meat prices have rocketed up lately, encouraging to go vegetarian, haha. Its the start of Friday here and I off to my prayer group and this afternoon I have to mow the lawn as it rained yesterday and if I not careful it will knee high, Humid weather makes everything grow like crazy.

    1. Yes, quiet days are good and necessary, too, I think. I want to try growing something new, this year. I'm glad your new variety of aubergine is growing well for you. Is that what you used in the white curry, the other day?
My goodness, yes, your prices are very high in comparison! Thank you so much for sharing the prices! I will not complain that beef is nearly $7, anymore!
I hope you enjoyed the prayer group meeting and have fun mowing the lawn. :)

  6. Oh, do plant lots of zucchini so that we can chuckle at your efforts to distribute the crop without wasting any!
Our drug store was offering 5X points for a week if you spend $25, so, today being the last day, it seemed a good time to stock up on things like Vitamin C and baby Aspirin and a couple of other items. We get seniors' discount today, too.

    1. Ha, ha, trying to give away the excess zucchini was pretty funny wasn't it? :D

Sounds like you took advantage of a good offer at the drug store to maximize your benefits while buying essential supplies. :) Well done!

    1. Thank you, Eileen. The trouble is, too many "quiet" days and I'm behind with all my housework and projects! :D

  8. It's good to have an easy day isn't it? One of the benefits of retirement is to be able to have an easy day when you want and not wait for the weekend - which was often filled with errands and tasks you couldn't get done during the work week.

Your mentioning the grocery adds makes me realize they didn't come this week. Oh well, I can check online.
I wanted to tell you I did my first curbside pickup this past Monday - like you! lol
When the pandemic first started our stores didn't offer the service so I would just shop with my mask and get it done. Now with Omicron spiking I thought I'd take advantage of the service since our Aldi's now offers it.
All went well and I will probably keep doing it for the foreseeable future.

    1. I feel guilty when I have one of those relaxed days, mid-week, but, you are right - at least I can do so when I need to, now that I am retired. :)

Good for you, taking advantage of the curbside pick up service! Yes, please make full use of all available services to keep yourself safe and keep those numbers down! We were at 45,076, yesterday (today's numbers haven't been posted, yet, when I checked). It's scary! Even if the immediate effects are no worse than the flu, or a really bad cold/cough; who knows what the long term effects are from getting the virus (Long Covid, etc.)?
