Wash on Monday

"Wash on Monday
Iron on Tuesday..."

I love that rhyme and the fact that each day has its assigned household task!

We had hazy sunshine, today, and although the temperature went up to 72F, I felt cold most of the day!

But, I got the laundry done!  Three loads of clothes and towels, etc., and one load of sofa dust sheets and a crocheted blanket.  My clothes have been folded and put away or hung up and the family room sofas have been recovered with the dust sheets.  Daughter's clothes are piled in a laundry basket for her to fold and put away.

In addition to the laundry, I cleaned the fridge, mopped the kitchen floor, took the trash cans to the curb for pick up in the morning (with some help from a neighbor who saw me taking the cans to the curb and offered to take the other two for me), did the dishes, paid a couple of bills and filed the statements, made fried rice for dinner (leftover rice, leftover ground beef, a handful of coleslaw mix, two eggs, some peanuts, soy sauce, etc.), and finished making a holiday gift.  Friend R called in the evening and we had a nice chat.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter feeling well
- A working heater, washer, dryer, etc.
- Neighbor helping me to take the trash cans to the curb
- Internet services
- Chatting with friends

Today's joyful activity was making a holiday gift.

I might have been a bit over ambitious when I made my To Do List, yesterday!  I always over-estimate how energetic I might feel and under-estimate how long it takes me to do things!  I didn't finish the list, today; the three items I didn't get to are being carried over to Tuesday!

Tuesday's To Do List:

- Bring the trash cans in
- Make a batch of jam
- Water the vegetables in the back garden
- Start on the holiday greeting cards
- Clean my bedroom

How was your Monday?  What have you planned for Tuesday?

As for ironing on Tuesday, I rarely iron clothes, so I won't list that on my To Do List, tomorrow!

  1. That does sound like you had a busy day. You're wise not to do much ironing and I do less and less these days and prefer to do little and often..well not too often :)

    1. It was a busy enough day for me! :D A lot of my clothes don't really require ironing, so I am able to get away without having to do much ironing. "A little and often" is a good way to get things accomplished, isn't it? :)

  2. When I lived in New Orleans, red beans and rice was the traditional food for Monday. That was because you could put the beans on to cook without much prep and they could cook while you did the laundry. Because, "Laundry on Monday..." :)

    1. It makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Cook a meal that will practically cook itself on a day when you'll be plenty busy! :)

  3. I've never heard that rhyme before, but every day seems to be a washing day in this house :)

    1. Some people say it is better to do a load a day, just to keep the laundry from piling up. I tend to do laundry once or twice a week.

  4. Well done on getting the laundry done. I always feel really productive when it's laundry day even though the machine does all the work, and I rarely iron anything anyway!

I've been plodding through the decluttering tasks today. I still haven't manage to place the ads as the site is still down, so will try again on Thursday.

    1. I, too, feel I've been productive when I do the laundry, even if, as you mentioned, the machine does all the work! :D

Sorry the site is down, but, at least you have everything ready to post once it is up, again. :) My decluttering has been minimal, this week.

  5. Ooh, what kind of jam are you making tomorrow? Or are you making today...since it's Tuesday evening here now! I had a massive surprise order of jams this week - 20 jars wanted! Then in the supermarket this evening I found apricots reduced so I bought them as apricot jam is my favourite. I made a batch in the summer which I was disappointed with so I thought I would have another go. At the weekend I made gooseberry jam and two batches of marmalade. I don't seem to be able to stop jamming!!

PS Thank you for your mail. Will try and reply soon. 🙂

    1. I made a batch of feijoa (aka pineapple guava) and ginger jam, today (Tuesday afternoon). This year, there wasn't a large crop of feijoa and quite a number of them had some damage inside. But, I managed to get 1 lb. of pulp from the good ones and I made almost 4 half pint (8 oz. as 1 US pint = 16 oz., not 20 oz.) jars of jam. 3 of them are for gifting. I will keep the one jar that is only 3/4 full.

How wonderful that you had such a nice order for your jams! Sounds like they are keeping you busy! Ooh, apricot jam sounds nice! Apricots are quite expensive over here (unless you have a tree). Don't worry about the mail. Keep on jamming! :D

  6. Well done getting all that laundry washed. I only washed a couple of summer jackets yesterday to put away for the winter (sigh). These days I find 72F a bit cool, too, and we are way below that now, but these days even 72F in the house never seems quite warm enough for me. Yesterday I tried out an internet recipe for kale stem stir fry for a side dish. It was spicy and worked out well.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. The washing machine does all the work and I get all the credit! :D I set the heater thermostat (located in the living room, near the heater) at around 75F, but, the family room rarely warms up above 70F. I am usually OK with 70F, but, yesterday, I couldn't get warm. Today is better, even though the high was only 65F. I'm bundled up though - blouse, sweater, cardigan, and scarf! :D
The kale stem stir fry sounds good! No reason to toss out those stems! I add broccoli stems to stir frys, too. :)

  7. Busy day. Glad you managed to get all the wash done - at least for now! Seems like as soon as I finish someone pops something in it again lol.
    72F - it's a dream! I think our high was 27F (with a windchill of 16F)

    1. I really shouldn't complain about how cold it is, should I? I remember the first time I came to California on a visit just before Christmas. I left Green Bay, WI when it was snowing and the temperature was minus something. I arrived in Los Angeles where it was 67F and I laughed to see my sister wearing a big jacket while I was shedding layers! But, now, I've got used to our winter temps and I freeze when it goes below 65F!

  9. You started your week with a busy Monday. It's a good feeling to get a lot done in a day isn't it? Now and then anyway because I like a relaxed day too.

Your stir fry sounds good. It's always a hit or miss with me and my "a little of this and a little of that" stir fries. I didn't grow up with rice dishes (I don't think we ever had rice!) and I have a hard time winging it.
I think I take it too seriously?
I will read on and see how your week is going.

    1. I like to start the week off with a busy day - that way, I feel I had at least one productive day! :D

Stir frys and fried rice, etc., are a bit like casseroles or soups, as far as I am concerned - you toss things together and it can't go wrong! :)
