Still Celebrating on Saturday!

Celebratory Goodies from Neighbor S!

Birthday celebrations are still continuing, with this wonderful plate of goodies that neighbor S brought over, this evening!  Homemade Armenian cake with raspberries and blueberries baked in it, madeleine cookies, chocolates, fresh dates, and, between them, a small container of blueberry syrup to go with the cake.  Yum!  I tried a small piece of the cake after dinner and it was delicious!

It was another sunny and warm day, today, with the daytime high in the 90s!  I'm just loving this weather!

I had a relaxed morning, mending a pair of sweatpants, replying to blog comments, writing my gardening update blog post, and doing a little crewel embroidery.  I needed some brown yarn for the stems of the fruits and basket, but, I don't have any brown crewel embroidery wool yarn.  My daughter and I checked online to see if either of the two craft and fabrics stores from which we buy our craft supplies had any.  Both had crewel embroidery kits, cotton embroidery floss, and plenty of wool yarn for knitting and crochet, etc., but, not quite what I was looking for!  I didn't want to use cotton embroidery floss because I had stitched the fruits and leaves with wool crewel embroidery yarn.  Daughter had some brown knitting yarn (acrylic; 4 ply); I took a length of it and separated the strands and used two strands to sew the stems.  It was not the best solution (the separated strands are not very strong and break quite easily), but, it worked well enough to fill in the small stem areas.  However, I will have to come up with a different solution to the basket, itself, which is a fairly large area.

Later, I did two loads of laundry while daughter tidied up the family room, a bit.

In the late afternoon, I drove over to friend R's to give her one of the scones daughter baked for my birthday, a piece of the watermelon we picked from the garden, a couple of guavas, a container of some pickled vegetables that she had liked, and a small bunch of chrysanthemums from the garden.  A very brief drive-by visit, as I didn't even get out of the car.  In return, she gave me a packet of frozen parathas that she had bought.  I keep saying I must make my own parathas and never do!  It might be something to make with my daughter over the Thanksgiving holidays.

Later, neighbor S brought over the plate of goodies and wished me again for my birthday.  I gave her a small container of the passionfruit leaves mallung to take home and try.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Another sunny, warm day to enjoy
- S bringing over cake and goodies to celebrate my birthday!
- Visiting with R, even if very briefly
- Working appliances
- Daughter helping to tidy the family room

Today's joyful activities included embroidering and eating cake!  LOL.

Plans for tomorrow include eating more cake, watering the vegetable seedlings (forecast calls for another warm day), vacuuming the family room, and cooking the ground beef I put to thaw.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

    1. It was a wonderful plate of goodies, wasn't it? Sharing is caring, I say, and food seems to be our language of caring. :)

  3. I like dates and usually eat one or two every day but I've never had a fresh date only dried dates.

That was smart to untwist the plies of your daughter's yarn to come up with something for your embroidery. Hopefully you will figure out something to use for the basket.
Reading your post reminded me how I would often see little grab bags of crewel wool or embroidery floss in church thrift stores for 50 cents or so. Sometimes there would be charming little pieces of work half finished. I haven't gone to many thrift stores or yard sales because of Covid and also now I find myself thinking, "Am I just going to be decluttering this item a few years down the road?" lol.

    1. The "fresh" dates are still dried, but, are very soft, although I've seen even fresher dates, still on the stem, on sale at the ethnic stores, here. They have a golden yellow color!
I had bought some needlepoint kits, a long time ago, with a falling leaf theme, which came with wool embroidery yarn in shades of brown. I thought they would make a nice set of coasters. I did one and the others sat in a bag for the longest time. I was almost hoping that I still had them and looked in the garage where I had last seen them, but, I think I donated them in a previous decluttering session. If I had them, I could have used the yarn from them for the basket! My eyesight is not good enough for needlepoint, anymore!

  4. ... and the celebrations continue - good for you. This reminds me of one of my friend's daughter who has a birthmonth, not a birthday!

One of the suggestions I picked up from the nutrition class was to fill a date with a spoonful of peanut butter and then freeze it for a luxurious treat. I haven't tried it myself but lots of the others say it's like having a Magnum icecream.

    1. Much as I enjoy celebrating, I think I had better stop before I gain any weight! I'm supposed to be trying to lose some! :D

We fill dates with whole cashews or, even better, marzipan! I'm sure that peanut butter would be delicious, too. :)

  5. That platter of treats looks most appealing! You do realise that if you plan to eat more cake tomorrow, you can't eat it all today? Or is that why it's crossed off the to-do list?

    1. I'm trying to ration the treats! I saved half my slice of cake to have today! It's crossed off the list in an attempt to trick myself that I have already eaten it (so I won't keep thinking about that piece of cake waiting for me in the fridge!) :D

  6. Always good to have prolonged birthday celebrations I think. Those goodies look just right!
We now have a Sunday afternoon treat after our walk, the Boston Cream mini donuts I discovered in our local supermarket.

    1. I was remembering Dianaro from GON - she used to celebrate all week, if not all month! The cake was delicious; I'm saving the rest for another time. You had mentioned those Boston Cream mini donuts; they sound like just the thing for a Sunday afternoon treat. :)
