November Decluttering: Week 3

This week's decluttering has been a bit "hit or miss" - some days, I found it difficult to declutter and other days, things practically decluttered themselves!  However, the important thing is, I found some items to declutter.  Some have left the house, already; others have been set aside to be donated, as soon as I can schedule a pick up.

These are the items I decluttered this week:

11/15 - 1 basket and some artificial flowers (tossed; too dusty to donate!)

11/16 - 1 stuffed toy (tossed; again, too dusty to donate)
1 paint stirrer stick (tossed/recycle bin)

11/17 - 1 catalog (Christmas gift baskets) that arrived in the mail (recycled)

11/18 - 1 set of 3 mini painted terra cotta flower pots on a base, 3 tealight candles, 2 ribbons, 1 gift bag, tissue paper, and a card; all from the stash (gifted)

11/19 - 1 Auto Club magazine (recycled)

11/20 - 1 Crochet book (to be donated)

Crochet Book

I bought it because I thought I'd be able to improve my crocheting skills.  Unfortunately, I can only make the traditional Granny Square when it comes to crocheting!  I'll stick to knitting!

11/21 - 1 Christmas book (to be donated)

Christmas Book

I have enjoyed looking at the pictures shown in this book, but, I have realized that I am no longer likely to decorate as lavishly as shown!  Time to let it go to be enjoyed by someone else.

I managed to declutter at least one item a day, in week 3.  Did you declutter anything this week?

  1. My decluttering is more miss than hit so don't worry. I think you have to be in the right frame of mind and deciding what can go and what can stay is a difficult decision. Obviously binning things that have passed their usefulness is a much easier decision.

    1. You are right - you have to be in the right frame of mind to declutter! It's not a race, either, so, "slow and steady" as the saying goes. :)

  2. You are doing well continuing along on the decluttering journey. I wish I was your neighbor so I could act as the in-between stop on that crochet book's trip to being donated! lol. I'd like to look through it and see what's inside.
I will see if my library has it.
I'm still doing the decluttering with you. I think what has helped me the most is having the list. Adding to the list every day or every other day or maybe lots of items on a single day. It doesn't matter the pace - just being accountable to the list propels me on.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Wouldn't it be fun if we were neighbor? Let me know if your library doesn't have the crochet book. :)
Glad to know that you are decluttering with me. Yes, having a list makes us accountable, doesn't it? It is also rather motivating, I find. :)

  3. I don't keep tract, but when I find something to donate I have a clothes basket in a closet that I toss it into. I did donate two bags of clothes this week.

    1. Well done on the clothes donations! :) I have a box set up in the spare bedroom to receive the items for donation, myself. It's not necessary to keep tract, but, I find that it keeps me motivated and accountable. :)

  4. Well done on the decluttering front. I like that Christmas book, but like you I would probably just look at the photos & then decide too much or not my style. I have a few Christmas cookbooks like that; time to release them (col).

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I love to look at Christmas books, but, I know I will not do half the decorating they show. There were a couple of recipes in this book that appealed to me, but, I can find similar recipes in my collection of cookbooks or online. :)

  5. I spent 2 days last week decluttering for my aunt. Now I cannot face doing any of my own decluttering for a few days!!

    1. I think you have earned a break from your own decluttering, Angela. (((HUGS))) In any case, you did a lot of decluttering before your move, so you shouldn't have much to declutter now!

  6. I am planning some decluttering as we have removed all the furniture and other stuff from the office and the closet in there, in preparation for a new floor to be laid. Not everything will be put back. I have some Christmas catalogues to declutter, too. Thanks for the reminder. They are sitting on the couch hoping I won't notice them!

    1. You have a good opportunity to declutter, Bushlady! Put back only what you really need and want!
I've been watching some minimalism videos where people empty their space and bring back essential items one at a time over a month or so; whatever is left in the pile of stuff at the end of the month is deemed unessential and can be disposed of. It's not something I wish to do (I already know I need a certain amount of furniture and appliances to be comfortable), but, actively bringing in only the items you know you are going to need and want is a good way to declutter. :)

  8. Not yet, but after we started our Christmas decorating early, I managed to cover my entire dining room table with items that I am going to let me kids have first crack at on Thanksgiving and anything left will go to Goodwill on Saturday. I've got a stack of catalogs I want to at least leaf through before tossing.

    1. Ha, ha, I have already asked my daughter which of the Christmas decorations she'd like to have; but, I haven't reached the point of getting rid of the items she doesn't want! Not yet, anyway! :D

  9. You put me to shame, Bless. I feel bad that I still haven't got around to clearing my wardrobe. Perhaps this weekend. X

    1. Don't feel bad, Jules. It's not a race! Besides, I am retired, now, and have all the time I need to do go through stuff. You are working, have a young daughter to care for, housework, yard work, and everything else on top of still grieving for your father. Take it easy and look after yourself. The wardrobe decluttering can wait.
