Today, I picked up the groceries I had ordered online, yesterday. There were a few substitutions and they didn't have the ant and roach spray I had ordered, but, I was able to get all the groceries I ordered.
October's grocery budget is $250. Since I didn't go grocery shopping during the last week in September, I had $51 leftover from the September budget as well as the $60 I carried over from August! This has created a nice cushion with which to stock up, and that's what I did, today!
In addition to the regular items we needed, such as half and half, bread, fresh produce (green beans, broccoli, onions, banana, apples, peaches, plums, grapes) etc., we stocked up on canned goods (6 cans of mackerel at $2.49 each, 4 cans of beans - pinto, kidney, and cannellini - at $.75 each), coffee for daughter (three packets at $5.99 each), two boxes of pancake mix at $1.99 each, meat (ground turkey, beef, sausages), fish (salmon fillet), and gyoza (pot stickers), as well as tofu and some other items my daughter wanted. We also treated ourselves to a frozen pizza ($5.00). My total came to $138.44.
October grocery budget = $250 (+ $60 from August + $51 from September)
Spent to date = $138.44
My grocery pick up was scheduled between 11:00 a.m. and 12 noon; I was home by 11:30 a.m. I baked the pizza and we had half of it for lunch with the last mango for dessert; the other half is in the fridge for tomorrow's lunch.
After lunch, I cooked the moringa and the okra I had picked, yesterday (picked two more okra, today). Later, I took a container of moringa curry to friend R for her dinner. On my drive there, I almost met with an accident as a young woman darted from between two parked cars and ran across the street, right in front of my car! Fortunately, I was driving well below the speed limit and was able to brake just in time! Such a blessing! The bag with the container of moringa curry fell down off the seat and although I had closed the container with a cover, some of the curry gravy spilled! Fortunately, it all stayed in the bag and didn't spill inside the car! R said the moringa curry was delicious.
The furnace company called to confirm tomorrow's appointment; the installers will be here at 8:00 a.m. I forgot to ask for an estimate of how long it might take them. Hopefully, it won't be an all day thing!
It was another warm day, today, with the temperature reaching a high of 91F. Then, in the evening, the clouds gathered, it became windy, and we had thunder and lightning! Just a sprinkling of rain to go with all that thunder and lightning, at the start, but, later, it rained a bit more! We welcome every drop of rain! Such a blessing!
Today, I took the trash can and the recycling container to the curb for pick up tomorrow morning. I also paid the gas bill and made the appointment for the blood tests I need to do prior to my doctor's appointment later this month.
I had leftover ramen noodles and pork stirfry for dinner (daughter hasn't had her dinner yet).
Today, I am grateful for:
- Good brakes! Managing to avoid an accident!
- Being able to pick up my groceries curbside
- The store's policy to charge the lower price when they substitute an item
- The furnace company confirming the appointment
- Rain!
Today's joyful activity was sharing some of the moringa curry with R.
Plans for tomorrow include having the new gas furnace installed. I haven't planned much else, besides bringing in the trash cans after they've been emptied. According to the forecast, we will have more scattered showers, tomorrow, too. Not sure how that will impact the furnace installations!
How was your Monday? Have you gone grocery shopping yet in October?
10/3 - 1 craft book
10/4 - 3 anime books (daughter's; to be donated)
It is a pleasure to be able to not have to walk around the supermarket and shop. I had an ordered delivered for the first time and it was wonderful. My husband says that our food bills have gone up a good percentage since Covid. I think its because we don't eat out.. Enjoyed reading your post. thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judee. I am so grateful that the grocery stores offer free curbside pick up! My food bills have gone up because the store that offers curbside pick up is a slightly more expensive store than some of the other stores I used to shop from, but, the trade off is worth it to me. :)
DeleteI am seriously considering having some groceries delivered - if the UKpetrol situation does not improve!
ReplyDeleteI heard on the news that your PM has asked the army to help with distributing petrol - I hope that helps!
DeleteThank goodness you were driving slowly and able to avoid an accident, It was fortunate that your curry was in a bag, too and that that it was still in good shape to give to your friend.
ReplyDeleteToday we were surprised with a calm, mild day and we actually ate lunch on the deck for the first time for a couple of weeks. Of course the dog next door decided to wander over to look for treats!
Yes, I was very thankful that I wasn't driving very fast! Otherwise, it would have been a very serious accident!
DeleteHow wonderful to get an expected, mild day in which to enjoy a meal outside! Of course the neighbor's dog had to come by looking for a treat! LOL. :D
Lucky for the young lady and for you, that you were under the speed limit. I live in a neighborhood filled with kiddos and I drive very slowly for fear one will dart into the street.
ReplyDeleteYes! I was certainly very thankful that I wasn't driving that fast! This was on a main road, with buses, etc.
DeleteThat is so good that you've managed to have two months under budget. As you said, now you will have a nice surplus to stock up.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. What a close call you had on your drive. I'm so glad for you and that person that nothing awful happened.
They say life can change on a dime and there's an example of it.
I need to read on and see how your new furnace install went.
Thank you, Debra. I am thinking of using some of the saved money to buy some canned or boxed food to donate around Thanksgiving.
DeleteYes, that was almost too close a call! I felt a bit shaken up, afterwards. It had the potential to have been a very bad accident!
The furnace has been installed - still waiting on the inspection, though!
