Monday

Last night, I was tired and went to bed at 10:30 p.m.!  Not only that, I even fell asleep almost right away!  Practically unheard of for me!  I woke up a couple of times in the night, especially since daughter was awake and moving around, but, I fell asleep, each time.  I woke up when the alarm went off at 8:00 a.m., but, I could have slept a little longer if I didn't have to get up.  However, I had an appointment at 9:15 a.m. for my blood test, so, I got up, got dressed, had a cup of hot water because I needed to be fasting for the blood test, and drove to my appointment.

I got to the lab a few minutes before my appointment time and there were about four other people in the waiting room, but, I was called in right on time.  After the blood was drawn, I came home and had breakfast - a slice of toast with slices of cold roast beef and a second slice of toast with butter and some of my homemade apricot jam.  Daughter made herself a smoothie with a frozen banana, tangerines, and an apple and shared some of it with me.

Then, I did a little weeding, looked for more sweet potatoes (didn't find any), added the kitchen compost items to the compost pile, and spent a little time sitting in the garden while I finished another knitted hat.

In the afternoon, daughter helped me with tidying up the family room.  I sorted through the last box of Christmas stuff (crafts supplies, for the most part) and repacked it; it is ready to go back to the garage to wait until needed.  Daughter broke down several cardboard boxes for me and I spread them in the side yard.  Then, I did three loads of laundry and remade our beds with clean sheets.

Later, I cut up and cooked green beans and we had rice, chicken curry, and green beans for dinner.

In the evening, the heater quit working!  We think the pilot light has gone off (it is a gas heater).  But, we don't want to try and relight the pilot light because daughter thought she had smelled gas, earlier.  I shall call the gas company, tomorrow, and see if they can send someone out to take a look at it.  Fortunately, we've been having some nice warm weather, lately.  It is supposed to be colder, tomorrow (highs in the mid 60s), but, we have two small electric space heaters and plenty of quilts for the beds.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Health insurance

- The blood test appointment went well

- Another productive day

- Daughter helping with the tidying

- The washer and dryer

Today's joyful activity was finishing another knitted hat.

Tuesday's To Do List:

- Call the gas company

- Paperwork

- Water the garden and houseplants

- Bring the trash cans in

- Piano lesson

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. It's best not to mess with gas. If you get cold, I know that you have several lovely sweaters to layer up in.

    1. I called the gas company this morning and they will send someone out to check it, sometime today. In the meantime, I put another knitted blanket on my bed, last night, and as you said, I have plenty of sweaters to wear! Currently (almost 10:00 a.m.) it is 64F inside the house, which is not too bad.

  2. Glad you got such a good night's sleep. Sounds like your day was productive too. Definitely call the gas company first things first today!

  3. I hope you can get your heater fixed quickly and that it's not too expensive. Is that your only form of heating?

I have my fingers crossed for good blood test results. Will you have to wait long for the results?

I hope you enjoy tomorrow (Wednesday) - I take it you will be watching the inauguration.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I called the gas company this morning and they will send someone out to check on it. Hopefully, it is a simple adjustment and they can relight the pilot light for me. I do have two small electric space heaters, but, otherwise, yes, the gas wall heater in the living room is my main form of heating.

I should find out the blood test results and, hopefully, the mammogram results, too, on Friday, when I go to see my oncologist.

Ah, yes, tomorrow...I will definitely be watching the inauguration! I have watched every recent inauguration, starting with President Carter's in 1977. :)

  4. Glad you got such a good night's sleep and hope that the heating problem is quickly sorted. I'm insomniac at the moment, and the roof problems are still affecting my ability to heat the house!

I too shall be watching the inauguration tomorrow, with interest and prayers for America and the world.

    1. I have been unable to fall asleep until past 4:00 a.m., most nights, so going to bed before 11:00 a.m. was unusual for me! But, I guess I was really tired. The gas company sent someone out this morning and he checked the heater and relit the pilot light for me. He said everything seemed to be in good working order, but, he suggested that I called for an annual maintenance check from now on, which I will do. I hope you are able to attend to the roof problems, whatever they might be, before too long. I'll take being warm in the winter over being cool in the summer, anytime!

  5. You got some great sleep. Luxurious sleep. I wonder what time you would've gotten up if you had not had the appointment?

Reading through the comments, I see you've arranged to have someone come and look at your heater. That's good. I hope it is a quick fix for you.

Yesterday I did 4 loads of laundry!
I could not believe it. A few days ago when I changed the sheets I put the old set in the bottom of an empty laundry hamper instead of washing them right away - which is what I normally do - and things piled up from there lol

Monday morning I got down to business and got it all washed, dried, folded and put away - It's a good feeling. Not a long lasting one but a good one nonetheless.

    1. I'd probably have slept till about 9:00 a.m., at least, I think. After that, a certain kitty becomes rather insistent about his breakfast! He is not going hungry as he has access to his dry kibbles 24/7. But, he wants his tuna! This morning, when I ignored his wake up calls, he got even by regurgitating the dry kibbles he had eaten earlier in the morning! Naughty cat! Now he's happily sleeping on top of my bed covers!

Yes, the gas company sent out someone to check the heater and said everything seemed OK and relit the pilot light for me. He also said to make sure I call for an annual service (all annual services were put off due to the pandemic).

Ha, ha, laundry never ends, does it? I am doing one more load, today, as I type this - the dust sheets on the family room sofas! Kitty fur protectors, as I call them!

  6. That was nice to be called in on time for your appointment. I don't think that happens to any of us too often. I can't remember when I last had an appointment other than a dental cleaning a few weeks ago. I was looking at an old calendar, making notes, and commented to DH that we hadn't been for a physical or various associated tests since the pandemic, and seemed to be surviving anyway!

    1. It was very nice, Bushlady, and I made a point to tell them so in the follow-up survey they sent to ask how my visit went. :) Ha, ha, I haven't been seen by my primary care physician since before the pandemic, but, I have been seen by my oncologist and my dentist! It's a good thing that we are managing OK, because things are pretty dire out there, over here, anyway!
