I woke up, once, at 6:00 a.m., this morning, and considered getting up for the day. But, I had gone to sleep after 4:00 a.m. and knew that two hours of sleep wouldn't be enough. So, after going to the bathroom, I went back to bed and slept till practically noon! Oops! But, I got eight hours of sleep!
After a brunch of scrambled egg, bacon, and toast, I started on decorating the tree. I don't have a theme or a color scheme when it comes to decorating my Christmas tree. My ornaments are a varied collection of colored glass balls I bought one year (1980) during an after Christmas sale (the first Christmas ornaments I bought), dollar store finds that reflected daughter's interests, and gifts from family and friends.

It took me almost four hours to decorate the tree! It reminded me of why I don't put up the tree every year! LOL. I did take a break to have a cup of tea and start sewing the seams on my new sweater. I watched news and a couple of holiday specials on TV while I decorated.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to sleep in!
- My collection of ornaments
- Holiday traditions
- Memories
- Chatting with my daughter
Today's joyful activity was decorating the Christmas tree.
Assuming you put up a tree, do you have a color scheme or a theme for your tree? Or, do you, too, have a collection of ornaments gathered over the years?
Your tree looks lovely, Bless.
ReplyDeleteMy Christmas colour scheme is red, green and gold. I don't plan to decorate the house this year - my decorations were bought when we lived in a much bigger home and I don't have room to display them properly. I need to rethink and buy some things more suited to where I live now but this hasn't been the year for that sort of shopping. I won't get rid of all my decorations as so many bring back precious memories of previous good times.
Thank you, Eileen. I like your color scheme. Your decorations sound very special and I like the fact that you are choosing to keep them for the memories. :)
DeleteYour tree theme sounds like ours--a random collection of ornaments from over the years. Each year, it's fun to remember the story that goes with each one as we decorate. I especially like your musical notes.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Live and Learn; the musical notes include a treble clef and an eighth note. :) I like recalling the memories associated with my ornaments and I've enjoyed reading those posts where you've shared the story behind some of your ornaments. :)
DeleteYour decorations are charming. I especially love the notes and also how each one holds precious memories for you.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a theme either. I have some glass baubles and some wooden stars, and then I like to get a new decoration each year, usually when we've been on a trip somewhere. There are also some which Lily has made. X
Thank you, Jules. Don't forget you have your dried orange slices, too, this year! I am down to one salt dough ornament made by my daughter when she was about 3 years old! There were a few others, but, they broke over the years.
DeleteThe trees with no theme or color scheme are always the prettiest. That's how I usually decorate mine although one year I did a beautiful turquoise beach themed tree. It was really pretty, but I've never done it like that again.
ReplyDeleteYour beach themed tree would have been very pretty, I'm sure! :)
DeleteSuch pretty ornaments. It took me all evening to do mine. You were wise to spend your morning in bed. The older I get, the more I realise that when my body is screaming "rest" I am foolish to ignore it
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. I really, really need to try going to bed earlier!
DeleteI love your decorations! For me the whole point of a Christmas tree lies in the memories that it holds, even down to the paper angel with the misplaced pasta facial features that our son brought home from school when he was little! Some items are handmade, by friends or by me, some are gifts, and there are bought shiny balls as well, dating back some years.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. It's the memories associated with each ornament that makes our trees special, isn't it? I have a little salt dough Christmas tree cut out that my daughter made - the tree lost its trunk part, last year, but, I hung it up, this year, again. :)
DeleteGood for you for getting it done. No, I don't put up a tree. U used to hang lights on the two conifers outside of my door, but now I just put up lights around the front porch. I hang other decorations outside, and have a red wreath on my front door. Glad you got your eight hours of sleep!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. Your outdoor lights sound pretty. It's been several years since I hung lights, outside!
DeleteYour ornaments are so charming and full of memories.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a theme. Most of my ornaments are old glass ornaments from yard sales and church rummage sales although I do have some ornaments with sentimental value.
I do like colored lights on my tree.
A few years ago I found an artificial tree out for the trash the day after Christmas so that is what we now use.
It was prelit with white lights so I added some strings of colored lights to it and really liked the result of having both.
Several strings had failed on the tree - I'm assuming that's why they discarded it - but I just snipped them off the tree ( they are REALLY attached) and replaced them with lights I put on.
It's a nice tree and a good story.
I am a fan of a good story. lol
Thank you, Debra.
DeleteI enjoyed your tree story! Very similar to a previous tree that I had - someone was getting rid of their artificial tree and my mother brought it home for me! It wasn't pre-lit, but, I bought strings of lights (I still have them, too!). After several years of use, the poor plastic branches started to break off, so, I cut off the branches to use as decorations and tossed the rest of that tree. Then, after a few years of getting fresh trees, I bought myself my current pre-lit tree. There is one section where the lights don't work and, some years, I take the time to add more lights (both colored and white). This year, however, I didn't (found the lights only after I had started decorating the tree!)
I like Christmas tree ornaments that have a tale to tell. Your ballerina ornament is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou. :)
DeleteYou have such lovely ornaments. I don't have a tree this year due to having to isolate for the past 10 days!
ReplyDeleteThank you; the decorations have been collected over the years - most of them bought during the after-Christmas sales!
