When I was taking pictures of animals for the October monthly photo challenge, I wasn't sure if I'd have enough live animals to photograph. I wasn't able to photograph the possum or the lizard until almost the end of October, for example. So, I took a few alternative photos, just in case. I didn't need to use them for the mini photo challenge, but, I thought I should do a photo outtakes post, before I delete them.
**********
You are all familiar with the common garden lizard, but, how many have seen the more uncommon Painted Lizard? It appeared in my garden, near the back wall, one day; obviously, it broke off its tail in order to escape a predator! Closer inspection showed that it had lost a hind leg, as well.

It never regenerated either leg or tail, and, soon after this photo was taken, M and I disposed of it.
The next photograph is of the proverbial "fish out of water":

Speaking of proverbial, the next photograph is of the "Bull in the china shop cabinet":

Pink Pony |
The Pink Pony is usually found in the company of her friend, the Blue and Yellow Cat, also made by my daughter in 3rd Grade:

The California Quail is the state bird of California. But, I found these Blue and White quails in my garden, the other day:

There is a pair of them; I wonder if they are a nesting pair and if there might be little blue and white eggs hatching into little blue and white baby quails, some day?

Hope you enjoyed the animals photo outtakes as much as you enjoyed the ones that were selected for the mini photo challenge.
How very clever! I've enjoyed both sets of animals. The pink pony and blue and yellow cat are treasures. A looong time ago, when I was a child, my father went to Sri Lanka on business. He brought back a small carved ebony cat for me. I still have that! It would fit with these animals. Celie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie. Glad you enjoyed both sets of animals. :) How lovely that you still have the carved ebony cat!
DeleteKeep an eye on that bull in the china cabinet - he is awfully close to your lovely "Old Country Roses" dishes! Your daughter's creations show that her artistic talent was well on the way in Grade 3.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a spell of amazing mild weather for November. It is heading towards 70°F by Tuesday. The air today smelled quite tropical. The snow has gone. We are being spoiled!
Ha, ha, he has been moved to a shelf in the entertainment center in the family room, Bushlady. Once upon a time, he was put in the decluttering pile, but, he found his way back from that! My daughter would rather I tossed her creations (they didn't turn out the way she wanted them to), but, I think they are sweet.
DeleteEnjoy your mild weather! You will probably be warmer than we will be over the weekend! Our high for the weekend is supposed to be 58F!
I think the photos are great. I would have to take liberties if I were photographing animals too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. The theme in November is "tools", if you would like to join.
DeleteBrilliant! Is this what people mean when they say "it's a jungle out there"? Top prize definitely has to go to blue and yellow cat and pink pony.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, it is definitely a jungle out there! LOL. My daughter is going to be mortified that I posted photos of her pony and cat, but, they have personalities, I think. :)
DeleteYou have quite a colorful group of animals at your house. That was a fun set of pictures.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Live and Learn. I had fun taking them. :)
DeleteI love them all but especially the ones your daughter made. I have things like that from when my kids were little too :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. :) When my daughter asks me why I still keep the things she made as a child, I tell her, "Wait until you become a mother and then, you'll understand". :)
DeleteSuch fun seeing the animals all around you.
ReplyDeleteExcitement abounds.
LOL. Some days, I think I live in a zoo! :D
DeleteYes, I did enjoy them - big chuckles
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ratnamurti. Glad you enjoyed it. :)
DeleteThe herd of elephants must have been a surprise. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was! I was a bit nervous because elephants can cause a lot of damage to a garden, but, these elephants weren't that interested in eating the vegetation. LOL.
DeleteI enjoyed seeing all these animals, both in captivity and "in the wild." Well done you!
ReplyDeleteLOL, thank you, Susanne. I was having a bit of fun! :)
DeleteOnly just found this post! And it brought a smile to my face :) You actually had me wondering about the painted lizard ... but I soon got into the mindset. Like you, I love the pink pony, and that's a fantastic herd of elephants! Well done :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella. Glad it brought a smile to your faace. :) I noticed that you, too, did a similar second animals post and I enjoyed seeing that, the other day.
