5,031 on Thursday

That is today's new confirmed Covid-19 case number in my county (Los Angeles County).  I couldn't find a break down by cities within the county, but, at this point in time, does it even matter?

"What you typing, Mummy?"

  "Dancer type, too"

Thank you, Dancer!  Very clever of you to type with your chin!

Effective Saturday, several counties in the state with "purple" status, including Los Angeles County, will have curfew restrictions placed on certain non-essential businesses from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.  Also, if the daily count of new cases continue to be high, with a five-day daily average of 4,500 new cases, then, a stay-at-home lockdown could go into effect on Sunday (currently, we have a two-day daily average of 4,500 new cases, I read).

I spent a quiet morning, today.  I texted cousin N and a short time later, her mother, my aunt C called and we chatted a bit.  Last week, aunt had said she and cousin might drive by to drop something off for me this morning; today, she said they might come by next week.  But, if there is a stay at home order, then, of course, there won't be any visits to drop anything off!

I had a banana and the last curry puff for brunch.  Then, I practiced the piano and walked in the driveway.  I am still not brave enough to walk even up and down my block, but the driveway and the sidewalk in front of my house is my safe zone.

My daughter texted me in the early afternoon saying that her friend has decided not to drive down for Thanksgiving, especially since the Center for Disease Control had issued travel restrictions.  We are both a little disappointed, of course, (we were holding out a little hope that she would still be able to make it), but, better be safe than sorry.  In any case, she has taken three days of vacation time off, next week (Monday through Wednesday; Thursday and Friday are holidays), since she hasn't taken any time off work since early March.

I watched news in the evening and started knitting another sweater with some 100% wool I had bought, last year.  I thought I bought 5 balls of wool, but, I found only 4 in the yarn bin; I hope I have enough for a sweater!  If not, I might have to mix in some leftover grey or blue wool and make a pattern!

Today, I cooked a pork chop for dinner.  Well, at least, I started out with a pork chop, but, I marinated it with some teriyaki sauce while it thawed and then, I cut it up and made a stir fry with it!

Pork Chop Stir Fry

Served Over Rice

I had half of it for dinner and kept the other half in the fridge for tomorrow's dinner.

Later in the evening, I chatted on the phone with friend R and video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Dancer's help with typing this post!

- Chatting with cousin, aunt, friend R, and my daughter

- Being able to walk in the driveway and spend some time outdoors

- Daughter being able to take some vacation time off, even if she is unable to come home

- My yarn stash!

Today's joyful activity was knitting.

Plans for tomorrow include a little housework and tending to the garden with M.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Dancer is very gifted & I do appreciate his thoughts on paper for this post. One of kitty girls likes to change my keyboard from English to French & I've yet to figure out what key she presses! Thankfully being a fully bi-lingual country, not all is always lost (lol). I'm sad that your daughter cannot get to you for Thanksgiving, but don't give up hope just yet, who knows The Universe may gift you both with a way for that to happen ...

    1. I see that you have a very gifted kitty, yourself! Well, I've left it up to The Universe, whether my daughter comes home for the holidays or not; there's usually a reason for things to happen the way they do, so, I won't question it. I drowned my sorrows, late last night in a bowl of ice cream and am feeling very stoic, this morning! :D

  2. The numbers are going up here, also, and new restrictions are in place. Since we don't do a lot in the community, they don't really affect us yet. However, with all of the kids coming home from college, things may change.

    1. Yes, I guess the numbers are going up just about everywhere. I, too, don't go out except to medical appointments and curbside grocery pick ups/drop offs, so any new restrictions won't affect me too much. But, even medical appointments can be a problem as my recent dental appointment showed!

    1. Thank you, Martha. The stir fry turned out quite well and it is one of the few ways I can persuade myself to eat more vegetables! I meant to add some bell pepper strips to it, too, but, then, I forgot! I'm not planning to go out anywhere in the next couple of weeks! It's too scary! I do have another dentist appointment on Nov. 30, but, I will only go if the partial is ready. I felt I got a bit too exposed for my comfort, the other evening!

  4. I am not sure about there, but I understand how the numbers here are rising. TheHub an I have been driving around and seen many parties.and weddings. (We live about a mile from a very popular event venue and pass it almost daily) Yes they were being held outside, but 300 or so people all without masks and standing right next to each other hardly counts as distanced.

I am sorry your daughter will not be able to come home. I know it is disappointing for both of you.
At least you have dancer, flowers, pomegranates and time outdoors.

    1. There are large gatherings over here, too, Anne, and, no doubt, several smaller gatherings of mostly family.

Thank you; yes, we were both looking forward to her coming home. I am disappointed for her, as well, because she was looking forward to having more room in which to move around and a garden in which to walk and get some fresh air and sunshine, in addition to being fussed over by her mother and cuddle time with Dancer! But, in the meantime, we have the internet and daily video chats! :)

  5. I am sorry that your daughter will not be able to come home for Thanksgiving. You are right to view it as you do and hopefully next year we all will be celebrating the holidays with all the people we have missed.

I saw on the news how things have gotten bad in LA and I thought of you.
Things have gotten worse here is Rhode Island too - really where hasn't it?

I'm so happy about the news surrounding the various vaccines.
I hope we all continue to take all the necessary precautions so we can get to the other side of this awful pandemic.

Dancer - you are quite a skilled typist :)

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, we are both disappointed, but, it is probably all for the best. Last night, when we video chatted, she was planning out her Thanksgiving menu, based on what she had on hand. No potatoes, but, she has squash. No cranberries for sauce, but, she has lingonberry jam. No brussels sprouts (her favorite), but, she has broccoli. :)

Yes, the numbers are up just about everywhere, aren't they? We are all looking forward to the vaccines. What a blessing to have them developed so quickly!

      Dancer says thank you! :D

  6. I saw a lovely cartoon of a cat taped to a wall during a Zoom meeting! They do love keyboards, don't they?
So sorry about the disappointment regarding your daughter's visit. I know you will both wish each other on the day itself.
Even in Canada the Covid numbers are rising alarmingly and yesterday I was feeling so angry at the lack of good direction from a federal and provincial level. The powers that be are just too scared to make good decisions and clamp down where needed and they shilly shally about. It has been that way right from the beginning, allowing gatherings that were obviously a higher number than sensible, opening non-essential businesses like tattoo parlours, strip clubs and casinos. This is a pandemic, for heaven's sake! Anyway I will jump off my hobby horse before I fall off in disgust!

    1. He comes by to see what I am up to, from time to time, usually when he thinks I should pay attention to him! :D Right now, he's stretched out on the sofa, taking his afternoon nap!

Thank you, Bushlady; daughter and I will probably spend a good part of the day video chatting and maybe share our meal in front of the computer!

As for rising Covid numbers and how it is being dealt with, I can only shake my head. Yes, please don't fall! :D

  7. I’m sorry your daughter can’t come down for thanksgiving.

I stopped checking COVID numbers a while ago. It’s going up here as well, but I don’t think Florida will go to a lockdown. I’ve decided to stay home as much as possible during holidays.

Hope you have a relaxing weekend, Bless.

BTW, Dancer can write really well. I think it looks like a poem in cat language. He hee

    1. Thank you, Nil. It is safer for her to stay up there. I considered driving up to bring her back, but, I don't know if I can drive that far without stopping to use rest facilities and I don't want to go into restaurants, etc., to use the facilities. Also, I'd want to have the car serviced before I undertake that drive and that means more exposure for me, taking the car in, waiting till it is serviced, etc. It's OK; we'll be together another time. :)

The numbers are depressing, to say the least.

Ha, ha, Dancer can become quite poetic when he wants to persuade me that he should get more tuna! :D

  8. I'm so sorry that your daughter won't be able to get home for Thanksgiving but better safe than sorry. It really isn't worth the risk is it.

So Dancer, as well as supervising you when carrying out chores, is also an accomplished typist? Such a talented cat!

  9. I'm really sorry about your daughter not visiting. I know how disappointing that must be. We are just staying home for Thanksgiving. I am cooking a small dinner on Wednesday and husband will take a plate over to his Aunt (who is alone) on Thursday so she can at least have something close to the Thanksgiving food. My MIL usually does all the cooking. I know she's feeling a little down so I dropped off some flowers that I hope will cheer her up!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. We were both looking forward to it. I remember you mentioning you'd go to your MIL's in previous years. That was very nice of you to take her some flowers and also to make sure your husband's aunt will have a Thanksgiving meal, as well. We will get through this. The important thing is to be safe and well.

  10. Gosh that's really a worry for you all. At present, people here are getting tested and going straight into quarantine, even if they've just gotten a bit unwell. But it is easier with a small population.

    1. I think it is also a population with a different mindset and political leadership, Ratnamurti.
