Mid-September, already! The days are flying!
Monday was a good day. The air quality was a little better, it was less hazy, there was more sunshine, and it was warm! It was comfortably cool inside the house, but, almost 100F outside! My kind of temperature and I was happy!
In the morning, I replied to blog comments, read and commented on a couple of blogs, and practiced the piano.
In the afternoon, I had my piano lesson. Why is it that I play quite well when I am practicing and then, make silly mistakes when I have my lesson? S was very patient with me and I received a new song (Santa Lucia) to learn, in addition to the current pieces.
I also did some cooking. I made a fish curry, using a piece of frozen seer fish (also known as king mackerel), a potato curry, and some onion relish (seeni sambol). I had these curries with some frozen stringhoppers (a type of noodles made from rice flour) for my dinner:
Dinner: Stringhoppers, Curries (Potato, Cashews, Fish), and Onion Sambol |
Later in the evening, I received a delivery of one of the two air purifiers my daughter had ordered for me and the two spare air filters:
New Air Purifier |
When I called my daughter to tell her about the delivery, she reminded me that I should have received two purifiers. But, only one was delivered. So, she contacted the customer service of the store we bought it from and they were very nice and said they will send a replacement purifier.
On Monday, I was grateful for:
- The better air quality and weather
- S's patience during my piano lesson
- Receiving the air purifier
- Phone calls and emails from friends
- Video chatting with my daughter
Monday's joyful activity was setting up the air purifier!
Today (Tuesday), the air quality and weather are about the same as they were, yesterday, although today's temperature was a little lower, with a high of 95F.
I practiced the piano, watered the garden, and brought the trash cans in. I made milk rice for brunch and had it with some of the seeni sambol that I made, yesterday. Dinner will be leftover stringhoppers and curry. I also made some phone calls to check on a couple of friends that I haven't heard from, recently.
In the afternoon, neighbor T's daughter K called me to say that her mother had fallen in the shower; K was with her and had called the paramedics. She just wanted me to know so that I wouldn't get worried when I saw the paramedics arrive. I called K a short while ago and she said her mother was doing okay. She didn't have to go to the hospital, but, obviously shaken up quite a bit and bruised; K was staying the night with her mother. I'm glad T was not hurt.
Today, my daughter left her apartment building to venture outside for the first time in 6 months. Her office is moving to another location and, although that move won't take place until next March at the earliest, they are not renewing their lease at the current location and employees have been asked to take turns coming in to the office to pack up their files and other items they want moved to the new location. Daughter walked to the office (just under 2 miles from her apartment) and back, as she didn't want to take the bus. She said the air quality was moderate, today, so, the walk wasn't too bad (she, too, has asthma).
Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter had a safe trip to the office and back
- Neighbor T is not too badly hurt
- Friends I called are doing well
- Better weather and air quality
- Medical insurance
Today's joyful activity was chatting with a couple of friends.
Plans for tomorrow include going for my annual mammogram and, maybe, a bone density scan (not sure if they will do both procedures on one day).
How is your week going? What are your plans for tomorrow?
I'm glad you have taken delivery of your air purifier and fingers crossed it wont be long until you receive your second one.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to read about your lovely neighbour and hope she's not too badly bruised. The fall must have left her pretty shaken up, so it would have been reassuring to have her daughter stay over.
I hope your mammogram appointment goes smoothly. Mine usually takes place annually in February, so I was fortunately up to date just before the lockdown restrictions. X
Thank you, Jules. My mammogram was due in June, but, a 3-months delay is acceptable under the circumstances, I suppose. I called this morning to confirm the appointment and I am so glad I thought to confirm the location because I am apparently supposed to go to a different place than the one indicated on my letter of authorization!
DeleteI was the same when I used to have music lessons and I saw it with the majority of children I taught ... practice on your own goes well and then you make mistakes in the lesson because you know someone is critically listening to how you play. It's easier said than done, and took me a long time, but it's getting yourself to the stage where you focus completely on the music and ignore the teacher while you are playing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad T wasn't hurt although her confidence must have taken a knock. It's a good thing her daughter was there when it happened.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good results from the mammogram and hope they can do the other scan at the same time to avoid a second visit.
Yes, I think I need to focus more on the music and be more confident in my playing. More practice should help, too, I suppose (although I have been practicing faithfully, on a daily basis).
DeleteI just called to check on T and she said she is sore (which is to be expected), but, otherwise OK; her daughter will be coming over in the afternoon, again. Her daughter told me that T had a bump on her head, but, thank goodness she didn't break any bones or anything!
I called to confirm my appointment and that they will do all three procedures listed on the authorization letter. Good thing I called, too, because the location I have to go to is different from the location indicated on the letter! Yikes!
So glad you got your air purifier set up and that the air quality is better overall too. Your meal looks delicious. No plans for me other than cooking this evening. Have a happy Wednesday :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. Hope your day is going well. :)
DeleteHope your tests go well. I am shocked at how quickly September is going by. Stay safe. Nice to have the purifiers. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susie. Hope you are keeping well and enjoying the change in seasons.
DeleteI hate playing in front of others (except the family) and never did well with my teachers present.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a filter. My son in Oregon is having a hard time with his eyes and says he is seriously thinking of wearing swim goggles.
I feel too self-conscious, I guess.
DeleteI hope your son and family are safe from the fires. Goggles might be useful with all that smoke!
That's good that one of your air purifiers has already arrived. I'm sure it must make a difference. Your daughter must have felt strange to be out and about after so long. She was smart to walk rather than take the bus and be exposed to possible virus carriers. I'm glad your neighbour wasn't seriously hurt but it was good that her daughter stayed with her to make sure she didn't have a concussion.
ReplyDeleteWe had an amazingly mild day today, it was lovely outdoors. Our squirrel is still entertaining us. I noticed parts of a huge mushroom on our deck and soon he came back to nibble at it, confirming my suspicion that it was he who had brought it there, without so much as a "may I?" I guess we are expected to provide places for him to dine. He also likes to dismantle pine cones on the shelves in the woodshed, leaving bits there!
The air purifier does make a difference! I'm glad to have it. My daughter said that she took the more direct route, along the major streets, to get to the office and there were quite a few people walking, too. About half of them were wearing their masks properly, she said, others had them under their noses or below their chins, and the rest didn't have any masks. She tried to avoid them as much as it was possible to do so on a fairly narrow pavement. But, on the way back, she walked through the residential streets and they were less crowded and she got to enjoy seeing the flowers in people's gardens and she mentioned how much she enjoyed walking under a particular willow-like tree.
DeleteHa, ha, sounds like Mr. Squirrel has observed you dining on the deck and has decided to join you! At leas he brought his own dinner, without expecting you to share yours with him! Too funny!
I'm glad you were able to get the air purifiers! My friend's son lives in California and they say they are unable to find any as they are on backorder!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. There was a news segment, today, about stores being sold out of air purifiers. We ordered ours through Target, if that helps.
DeleteHave a beautiful night.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Regine; you, too, and hope your weekend is a good one.
