Rainy Thursday

It rained all day on Thursday!  Not heavy rain, but, slow, weepy rain, slowing down to a drizzle at times, but, never quite ceasing.  Much as we need the rain and welcome it, I didn't want to take any photos of the grey skies or the sodden garden.  Instead, I picked these photos to post - taken on a sunnier day in late March:

The Orange Tree

But, it was a good day in many ways.  There was a text from gardener friend M, saying he's going to the market and asking me if I needed anything.  I thought that was very kind and considerate of him.  I thanked him, but said I didn't need anything.  I still have most of what friend S brought me, last week!  A little later, a different friend M phoned to say that she was going grocery shopping and did I need anything!  That was very sweet of her, too, to call and ask me.  Have I mentioned that I am blessed with very kind friends?

Baby Peaches
I spent a very relaxed morning, having my tea, responding to blog comments, reading and commenting on some blogs, etc., and procrastinating on getting started on my to do list!  I ate the leftover pancakes for brunch, with mackerel curry (and the last pancake with syrup!).

Eventually, in the afternoon, I dusted my bedroom and vacuumed the house.  I started cleaning the kitchen, too, but, didn't finish.

The Succulents Border
Then, I put on my rain coat and went outside to throw the litter box cleanings in the trash can, collect the mail, and start the car.  It was still drizzling, but, not too hard, and I decided to go ahead and take my walk while the car engine ran.  I didn't walk for a long time, probably 10 minutes at the most, but, I got a little bit of walking done.

Afterwards, I had a cup of tea and ate the last of the tuna salad on crackers while I watched the evening news.

A couple of days ago, the Temple had posted an announcement that the evening prayer services could be accessed online at 7:00 p.m. every day and had provided information about how to log in to access them.  So, today, I logged in at 7:00 p.m. and was able to watch.  I was so pleased to be able to do so!  Afterwards, I called the monks and told them that I had been able to watch and they were very pleased.  I am going to try to do this every evening.

Later in the evening, I practiced the piano, called friend R and chatted with her a bit, and video chatted with my daughter.  Dinner was rice, mackerel curry, green beans, and beetroot curry.  With avocado pudding for dessert.  Still later, I ate a granola bar and a tangerine for a snack.  I am not very hungry for meals, but, I am hungry for snacks!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Good friends who kindly offer to do some grocery shopping for me
- Being able to virtually participate in the Temple prayer services
- Rain for the garden
- Rain coats!
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was watching the Temple prayer service online.

Friday's To Do List

  1. Most of our churches and other places of worship are providing online services. I think it's wonderful how rapidly people have responded to this need at this time. I'm glad you managed to link to your Temple and participate in the prayer service.

I'm hoping to start my crochet today. My sister has sent some tips but I can't view the file so will look on Google if I get stuck ... which I'm sure I will 😂

    1. It's wonderful that the technology makes it possible for us to attend these virtual prayer services, isn't it?

Oh, good luck with the crochet! I'm sure you'll do fine once you get the hang of it. Especially with your sister helping! :D

  2. Our Thursday was weird weather-wise. We had cloudburst of heavy rain that stopped as abruptly as they started, brilliant sunshine, hail, and then snow!!

Aside from the weather we had a pleasant day of cleaning, some fun projects, cooking, and playing games.

    Blessings~

  4. Oh my gosh! Look at all those peaches. With all this rain you're having, I hope you get a wonderful crop. I love your succulent garden. I love to have a garden that is architectural. I love textures as much as colour.

Yay for keeping on your schedule today. I admire you for doing so, as I am doing none of that as yet. Yes, I am prepping food and preparing for Saturday's trivia game on-line, but I am not doing any housecleaning routines. I am still spending too much time watching news and chatting up friends and family on line.

Great news that you can "attend" evening prayers with the monks. They must have been so appreciative of your phone call.

    1. Gardener M has thinned some of those little peaches since I took the photo, assuring me that it needed to be done! The little peach tree is only on its second year and last year's crop all dropped while the peaches were still forming, after a heatwave! I am hopeful that there will be a crop to harvest, this year.

Thank you, Susan, I am still dragging my feet on getting back on the schedule, but I feel I should try.

Yes, I was very happy that I could participate in the evening prayers and the monks were happy with the feedback. :)

I hope all is well with you and your family; have fun at the trivia game, tomorrow!

  6. We've been in a rain cycle as well. This morning is finally sunny and it's so welcome.
I hope you get some sun too today.

That's wonderful that you are now able to watch the prayer services from your Temple. I'm sure it is comforting to be able to do so.

    1. It's still cloudy, here, but, it's not raining and the sun is trying to shine through the clouds. The forecast says it'll be sunny, tomorrow.

Thank you; it really felt comforting to be able to watch the prayer services. They chanted special blessings for good health, which is so needed, right now.

    1. My mother used to scold me, when I was a child, because I didn't want a proper meal, but, would rather snack! Maybe grazing would be the proper term?

  8. I'm so happy to know that you are able to access the Temple prayer service on-line. It really helps, doesn't it, to be able to link up in this way. I was able to access the Good Friday service this afternoon via laptop.
We do have one more bottling to do, there is syrup waiting to be reheated and filtered and bottled, then that will be it for the year. Today we got up late (there was snow on the ground again) and the morning went fast. I did a few small chores, e-mailed and took a nap before making supper.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; it really does help! I was surprised, because I don't go to the Temple all that often, regularly, just once, perhaps, twice, a month. But, it felt so calming to watch and listen to the monks chanting! I felt a certain serenity, afterwards. Today, I watched a video of a group of monks chanting at the Temple of the Tooth, in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

I'm glad you were able to access the Good Friday service. I hope you'll be able to access Easter services, too.

Oh, you still have one more bottling to do. Sounds like you had a good run of sap, this year. Glad to hear that you were able to sleep in, this morning. Unfortunately, it does make the morning go fast, doesn't it?
